The conversation about being bored in a relationship is really interesting. I’ve been with my husband 6 years and before I was with him I thought this. I thought wow I would be so bored being with someone for 10+ years but honestly I think once you find your person it’s different. Me and my husband still have dates, we have fun, we belly laugh all the time and even flirt with each other still 😂 it won’t feel boring if you’re with the right person

Ive dealt with chronic pain since I was 29. I was approved for full disability before my thirtieth birthday. Hearing what Mr. Hussey said about dealing with his physical ailments, was so inspiring. I’m now forty five years old and I have learned how to have good days again. For many years after I became disabled, my entire existence revolved around my pain, my limitations and my self image as a disabled person. It was not until hearing Mr. Hussey explain the emotional aspect of living with a chronic condition, that I understood why and how I have managed to move forward in a positive way. The last couple months my sister is experiencing something very similar to what I had at 29. Ive been trying to help her emotionally get through this. But, I hadn’t been sure how to explain to her how I got past the initial mental phase of constantly being miserable. I believe now I have a better understanding of how I got through it and how she can too. Thank you for this. Thank you so very much.

Hey please get back to me on how you got disability, I’ve dealt with it horribly since 24 years old I woke up one day on couch couldn’t move remember rolling off couch into bathtub trying to see if warm water would loosen me up it got tad better but from that day till today has been night mare, have had to see Rhumatologist since 24 trying to pinpoint what I have they come up with 3 things one being chronic pain which I agree with more than the other 2 but my doc put me on numerous inflammation pills & pain pills which for me go hand & hand I can’t live without each & im sure your aware the battle to get the pain pills since so many people abusing have ruined it for the some that really rely on it, we’ll it’s brutal to get but in my case I found a pill indomethacin an inflammation pill SR sustained release which is key & the other is pain pill darvocet which due to my commercial drivers license has even downgraded to tramadol much weaker pill but it’s law, so basically in order to survive I’ve been on those for 35 years now & it’s destroying my stomach & soon I’m gonna have to stop but if I stop I basically go back to practically paralyzed so I will have to get disability I’ve been soldering on so far but the day will end, so how were you able to convince them you need disability?? Thanks

@@briandillow6767if you have an auto immune disease that is inflamatory you might be eligible to get imunossupressants like metrotrexate and humira. Thats what i take as shots every week for ankylosing spondilitis. The anti inflamatory pills messed up my stomach too. In my country they dont mind to prescribe opioids for people like us. But the opioids didnt help my neuropatic pain. I take pregabalin for that plus a muscular relaxant and valium as the night meds. This way i can sleep without waking up randomly with pain. Hope you get better

I've had carpal tunnel for the last going on 3 years, I've trained as an Animator / Artist so that is a death sentence creatively and commercially. The way Matthew describes living for other people, not being able to conquer it with your personality / skills and waking up in the morning with a few brief seconds of not remembering you have anything wrong with you hit so hard. I've never heard someone articulate exactly how overpowering it feels. That was a really incredible moment. And the whole 'don't remove your trauma because of what you gain from it' is incredible because if I had the choice I don't think I'd remove the lesson or experience because of the lessons it taught me about myself and life. I'm now medicated with steroids for it and I'm able to work again and live mainly comfortably while the steroids work so there is a light at the end of the tunnel but the way he describes the mid point of learning to adapt and living in pain thresholds is insanely accurate. Thanks so much for that talk it was incredible to hear someone describe exactly how I've felt the last three years and seeing someone get past it.

Speaking to the relationship element. I've literally just had the experience of being blocked by someone I recently started dating... it was developing into a relationship. He showed up, we went on dates, his communication was consistent and affectionate, we were making plans for immediate future and we seemingly wanted a long termrelationship... then BAM... very late last night, I checked my phone... he's gone, blocked me on absolutely everything. I have absolutely NO IDEA why this happened... I do have an abusive childhood, breakdown in previous marriage BUT I've had decades of therapy to help me. I have done everything in my power to get myself straight, making myself feel better and yet this has happened. I'll get over it but the pain right now is excruciating. Long term relationships is what makes me happy. I wish I knew how the hell I get it right. I'm glad that videos like this exist because I want to heal from this.

No Such Thing As A Perfect Relationship In every moment, you can choose to focus on what's working about your relationship and what you love about your partner or what's not working and what annoys you. If you're a glass half-empty type of person prone to negative thinking, this will be a challenge for you and you'll need to commit to a conscious and daily practice of orienting toward the positive. But the first step is to shift your belief that perfection is possible and allow the fantasy of the fairy tale prince or princess to shatter. It's not easy to allow the fantasy to shatter. Many people have unconsciously carried and embellished this fantasy since childhood, and we live in a culture that encourages the belief that perfection exists. So when you start to let it go, there's a grieving process that often needs to occur before you can accept a realistic model of healthy love.

The part about ingredients is so amazing… I train homeless veterans to be chefs… We teach them as young chefs to look at ingredients not for what they are but for what they could become, We teach them that same realism in life for them not to look at their lives for what they are but for what they can become, they are a dish to be served to the world, and they can always source better ingredients. Learn the techniques and you can create anything in the world.

I realised that from a very young child I have been doing exactly as Matthew describes. I too always think people who I allow beyond my outer protective shield have an agenda of some sort, whether it’s to ridicule, control, manipulate, receive my love to soothe their ego and take pleasure in throwing it away in time, I just cannot trust that they are genuine. And I understand why now. Thank you for your openness Matthew.

Just discovered Matthew. His brilliant, honest mind is matched by a deep, honest and humble heart. I am so glad he's found his love, and eager to hear what new wisdom will be shared with us. I can feel Stephen quieter than usual as the words sink in, the words of a man who has discovered exactly how not to be a victim.

Omg! I have learned so much listening to Matthew in this podcast and I’ve been following him for years and watched every bit of content he’s put out there. Seeing this side of him has made him human, just like the rest of us. Oppose to the the guy that makes comical KZfaq videos that are so perfectly rehearsed. Absolutely love the question Steven is asking. What an intelligent guy who has really mastered his speaking skills.

I've been struggling to find meaning with my life recently, for a lot of reasons, but this is exactly what I needed to hear. Love the conversation in its entirety but the part about finding those core things, such as creativity and connection, to feel like today mattered really resonated with me. It inspired me to find my own. Thank you so much for sharing this🙏

chronic disease victim here. Highly relate to Hussey about chronic pain and the procedure of having hopes for treatments that at the end didn't work. Likewise I learn to live with it and even though I have pain I just don't think about it. I learn to separate myself from it and not let it consume my life. At the same time, because of this i found my life job and I discovered so much about myself and life it self... It transformed me. Even though it was and it is ruthless. the need to feel the day was worth it and i did something is what makes me happy.

I love this guy, he is a wonderful soul, and I too suffer from chronic pain, and it is hard sometimes to accept it is part of life yourself. I appreciate this podcast, and "the criteria" are now going to be a printout on my fridge because I so needed that.

Your story was so moving on so many levels. I was in a freak accident and suffered greatly and still do and that's exactly 💯 how I felt. I can fix everything but I can't fix the head and ear pain that I suffer daily. I even thought I would have to start writing my will. I loved your speech!!!!

I am watching this episode and I am crying... I follow both of you... I feel so related... with the analogy of the chef and the ingredients... My first daugther was born with a brain injury, now she is 12... and those are the ingredients of my life... she is like a little baby, she doesn't walk, talk, but she smiles a lot... I felt so related with what he said about the pain, and the things we just can't change... and the pain of not knowing how to make things better, I certanly have become stronger, and I can relate so much about that... I am doing the best dish I can with my ingredients... Thanks for sharing... Thanks to both of you! You are awesome! Sending LOVE to you guys! ❤❤❤

Love that he spoke about someone you can build. I've been with my partner for 22 years and married for 6yrs now and that brought it to that ingredients part of the talk were if just made me think of the ingredients we've used to maintain such a long loving relationship. Sometimes 5 star meals... Sometimes chicken & chips 😂 as long as we're enjoying the meals together we both win. Another great episode as I'm on my way backwards through all your interviews. Great content.

Knew of Matthew's work and had this one saved for ages to watch. Clicked on it today thinking I would get insight on love and relationships. But this has turned out to be one of the best conversations I've heard so far on DOAC. Every word was so brilliant and insightful, not just because it was exactly what I needed to hear right now and because I've gone through such similar things in my life but because Matthew is such a brilliant mind and Steven and his podcast continue to be unmatched. Thank you again and again!

I have been married to the love of my life for the last 23 years, yet I still learned something from this podcast. It is all about keeping it real and yet still having fun. The fun changes with our physical abilities. We are both approaching being 50 and it is still interesting. You're totally right Matthew - it's not just about what feels good.

I had horrible pains in the same parts as Matthew has had. It took a long time to find where the pains came from and the pains affected my works, private, the process how I think and concentration level. When pain was too sharp , I wanted to die literally. I got CT scan X ray whole my body and met many doctors. After 1 year suffering from pains, one dentist found very small crack on back teeth and it seemed the pain came from it. I had the teeth pulled out and got an implant and my pain became 1/100, the nerve remembers pains so a little pains is still left but I got back my life. You have to find a really good dentist btw. Many other dentists and doctors tried a lot of wrong treatments to me and implant needs high skills. I can refer if you need, Matthew! Hope you could find the reason and will be released from your pains Btw, I have been a huge fun of Matthew. I'm always talking about him to my female and male friends. Thank you very much for saving our souls Matthew and thank you Steve to have such an amazing guest and a fantastic interview!

To Stephen's question 'do you worry you'll get bored of the other in a relationship?' ... I would ask do you worry you'll get bored of you? Because that's the longest relationship you'll ever have. If you're both committed to evolving and growing as individuals, then you have the honour of witnessing and partaking in not just your own journey, but the journeys of those you love too, however much you share of it and for however long ❤️

Oh, I love how Matthew was talking about "settling" in LA and how he and his fiance bought more things for the house because they made the agreement to stay 🤝 I had that same feeling in my current city for many years, until I bought my apartment and got my daughter into a really good school. Before I was all over the place with my thoughts and if I should stay or go, but once I made the decision to stay....my feelings about living here have changed immensely and I can truly call this place home. Much love from Tbilisi, Georgia 🇬🇪. Matthew helped me so much during the pandemic and when I was going through a break up. 💔 He is truly the best 👌

Gosh Steven, this is the best interview with Matthew Hussey I've ever seen. You REALLY bring out the BEST in your guests, and what I mean by best, is the most truth. it's really incredible but your guests are different on your show then they are in other interviews and I think it's because they really feel as though you only bring a loving curiosity, no judgement, no superficiality...but genuine LOVING curiosity. And it allows people to open up in an almost therapeutic way. There is alchemy in your presence and it produces interview gold. Appreciate your show so much.
