I sure wish I could have visited the inside of the chapel and the large mausoleum. I bet they are a sight to see just judging by the outside. Thank you for watching Yvonne! I had another South African viewer state how the cemeteries there are from the 1700s yet are being used by squatters or people that want to use the materials so they are not kept up and really ran down. Any truth to that?

@@RhettyforHistory Yes i am afraid so, especially out in the Rural areas. They are going for private Cemetery's now. There is a big one not far from us. Where Nelson Mandela wife & Daughter & Grandaughter are buried. It's such a shame & no one is doing anything to stop the squatters. I remember when we were in Cairo a few years back, we saw the city of the dead. A huge cemetery with Mausoleum's & people were living in them. The guide would. not tell us much. But we knew about it. There were so many people living there. It was unreal. We don't have a problem here in Johannesburg , but out in the old small towns it's a problem. Such a shame. Cheers Rhett. 😃💝

That is a shame. I had no idea about that. It's sounded like something that was made up. Is there not anywhere else they could squat? We have homeless and squatters but very rarely do I see then in cemeteries and if so it's not a lot of people. Ours are more in woods or city streets etc.

Oh there was a ton to see in Riverside. I will certainly have a video on that cemetery. What couldn't believe is how Riveraide was maintained by Fairmont yet the two cemeteries were like night and day difference in how they were maintained and cared for. If I had never seen the signed I would have never known they were connected. Fairmont is nice while Riverside is really ran down. Thank you for watching!

I didn't realize it was the oldest maintained. Riverside appears to need more care especially when compared to how pristine Fairmount was. I couldn't find one issue with Fairmount but it was endless issues at Riverside.

I really enjoy I as well. They are like time capsules or card catalogs in a library. They show us little glimpses of what is in the past. We just need to find the stories. Thank you for watching Gwen!

@@RhettyforHistory that’s understandable Rhetty, can’t say out of respect for the families who don’t want the fans to know. I was looking at a sight years ago that showed, or told of where celebrities graves were (I don’t remember the sight it was, it was when I first got into the u tube thing). The person was saying there is one celebrity, they would like to know where they were buried but they didn’t know. The person asked if anyone knew, and if so to message the sight. Well by a huge coincidence, I not only knew but I also buried them. Of course I never messaged the sight, and to this day I have never said where they are buried.

There are some that do wish to remain anonymous. Most of what I see is that the family just wants to maintain the memorial on findagrave though. Once it gets marked as famous then findagrave has control and anything can be said true or not.

It really was a beautiful cemetery and I certainly did not have enough time there. She was a tough lady for sure and I also feel she tried to do what was right by everyone she could. If you are interested in driving a little farther north of Denver, Mary Kornman is buried in The Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley Colorado she was part of the Our Gang cast from 1923 to 1926 and continued to act until 1940. Also Roy Rogers friend and Co star Pat Brady is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.

I knew about Pat Brady but did not know about Mary. I ran out of time and did not get to visit Pat but it does give me an excuse to go back some time.

There were a lot of saloons on Market Street so there were many options. No telling who all came into her brothel but I'm sure it would be interesting if we did know. Thank you for watching my friend!

Wow! A thirty year feud? I wonder who got them to pose shaking hands? They sure carried a grudge a long time. Way longer than some people have been alive. They both sound like they have some interesting stories to their life. This cemetery was very beautiful and if I lived in the area I have no doubt I would be telling more stories from there. @@RhettyforHistory @@RhettyforHistory Yes, 30 years sounds quite ridiculous - but Leigh & Devine were feuding over supremacy of Sydney's criminal underworld - from around 1928 to 1960, and both made a lucrative living off it. Both were very wealthy women - clearly there was enough VICE to go around, but they both wanted it ALL. I would love to see more of that cemetery also! I could spend a week there just looking at the monuments and private mausoleums. And I'd LOVE to see inside that magnificent Mausoleum! As far as I'm aware, Australia doesn't have any large Mausoleums of any kind. Cemeteries here aren't privately run or owned - to be best of my knowledge. They are all owned by the city councils and you pay for a burial plot but unkeep is paid for by the land taxes on our properties. So.. No expensive Mausoleums here. And I don't agree with Mausoleums based on the number I've seen going broke in the US. It's a strange concept anyway as I'm unaccustomed to it - but it does make sense that 'eternal perpetual care' is a false concept. Sooner or later the money runs out once all of the vaults are sold. By law, they're only required to set aside 5% of the sale price of each vault for perpetual care and upkeep of the building. It's bad enough with many cemeteries we see, but Mausoleums are currently failing all over the US. Owners die, and leave the property to people who don't want to be Mausoleum owners - money is often misappropriated over time, and there goes the concept of 'perpetual care'. I've been keeping a close eye on the sheer number of Mausoleums in the US which have gone broke, been left to rot - and then been vandalised...it's Disgraceful! Some of the biggest Mausoleum 'fails' weren't even 60 years old before the vandals and grave robbers had a field day with their caskets, selling off the skulls and long bones on the black market for use in the occult. I'm curious if the two feuding ladies have graves? I ask just because many of these criminals like that have graves that are well visited or people even chip off pieces from their markers. I was curious if that happens in Australia too or if it was an American thing?

He not only covered some great ones in Oklahoma but all over. Definitely some big old west ones. I did not submit any this time. He reached out to me in 2020 about Elmer McCurdy so I gave him that one and two others and they were in a viewers special last year. He mentioned doing a whole special with ones I had done but I politely declined stating that he should keep doing a variety of people. I didn't want it to be all about me. The viewers are doing an excellent job and so us He. He's one of the cemetery channels that has always been my favorite. The other is Grave Explorations. Those two inspired me to start my channel with graves.

No, that was Cheesman Park. Was originally City Cemetery. It's next to the Botanic Gardens and they still find bodies occassionally. Bodies were moved to either Fairmount or Riverside, but not all were moved.

@@RhettyforHistory They do in Tucson. It’s not unusual to find the remains of ancient Indian villages when someone is starting a new development either. In those cases the developers have to report it to the city & county so the archaeologists from the University can come out and study it.

I actually visited that cemetery and spent quite a but of time there. I was shocked that Riverside is taken care of by Fairmount because they don't look the same at all. Riverside was ran down and in need of more care. Thank you for watching!
