Really enjoyed this video and the history lesson. I have to imagine that all of the Earp brothers walked around with a certain swagger. Men had to be tough in those Old West towns or they would've never survived. Robert with Sidestep Adventures always reminds the viewers that when ever you tour an old cemetery such as this one, you can add 3 graves for everyone that you do see.

I had in my hands the cemetery records of the one cemetery I mentioned on an earlier video but they were stolen and I am hoping they turn up for sale on the internet or some antique store, likely in Nevada. I'm thinking of snail mailing you graves of local people of interests, although in this area, most criminals were buried at their place of execution.

Tucsonan here: Those Yuccas are Joshua Trees. That skinny cactus is a type of cholla (Choy-yah). Always carry a comb in your pocket while walking in the desert so you can flick off cholla if it gets on your clothing. Your throat is rough because you’re probably dehydrated. Add 1/4 Gatorade to 3/4 water so you can get rehydrated. Tip: if you’re not using the restroom, you’re not drinking enough. Note: the pieces of wood are probably original. We don’t get enough rain for things to break down as fast as they would where you come from.

Father Gallaspy was born 14 Nov 1810, died 22 Jun 1886 according to Find a grave. Great video, take care!

I've been to Wilcox several times while in Arizona, but I didn't know the Warren Earp story and never stopped at the cemetery. Thanks for an interesting video and wonderful photography. Maybe you should do a photobook! I always have a problem with allergies in that kind of landscape, particularly when the wind is blowing. Gosh you found some very old graves there.

Another great video Rhetty love watching your video. I guess it's stays windy alot in Arizona. Supposedly it was a really windy day on October 26th 1881 at the time of the gunfight. I wished the wood here in Oklahoma lasted as long as it does in Arizona. My deck floor is 5 years old and already rotted out.

It's a shame that no one in the area like a Preservation group could organize a clean up. Thanks for this video.

Hey Rhett, no need to apologize. We understand and so glad you're doing well. This cemetery is wonderful! A great western cemetery with a lot of history. Wood in Arizona, New Mexico, West Texas, and southern Utah can last a very long time. Because of very little humidity and very hot temperatures wood will last for years. I've seen, in southern Utah structures that were built in the late 1800's still around. Very nice job, my friend. Stay safe.

There was a little bar we stopped at outside of Tucson that still had the original hitching post out front from the 1800s. That wasn't no fancy treated wood. So I'd imagine a very long time.

Ha!! I liked the back trail exploring in a Prius. Always interesting stops. I like the opening video vintage photos. It would be fun to be able to see “then and now” pictures to see the changes that have taken place. Mclintock I wonder if that is the person the John Wayne movie was loosely based on?

What I like about the Wyatt Earp story is how he was a paid adviser on the early westerns from Hollywood. I've probably got the film mixed up, but I read that John Wayne met Earp when he was starting out and he copied the hesitating way Wyatt Earp would speak. When you hear Wayne say. Well... now... I wana tell you... boys... if you're... lookin'... for trouble... trouble...is what...you're gonna... git... Apparently Earp spoke in staccato-like bursts and John Wayne saw a way to make himself look more authentic. Stage Coach and The Searchers are two films that were worth everything else he made in my opinion. But what we have to realize is that when humans had to do a lot of things on their own, the movies were terrific. It seems like every step we make with technology getting better, our art forms are flattening out. In today's pop music for example, they don't write bridges any more. Recording sessions in the 50s were made with everyone playing their part and getting it recorded on the spot. Then tracks came about in 60s and 70s, there were a lot of fine tunes made as well, but as we became more technical the bottom dropped out of creativity because machines thrilled the muscians and engineers to death and so they went on overkill. You can't knock progress, but when you see a concert like the Travis Scott and Drake show with only one guy on stage with a mic in his hand and a backup track playing a loop over and over and not even musicians or backup singers on stage, you have to realize we've up and killed an art form. Live music concerts have become a parody because technology has scared away anyone wanting to learn how to play a guitar or take the time to write a song--with a bridge. I know; I know, it's easy to criticize but what I see with my eyes more and more is movies I end up not seeing to the end and songs I turn off before their finished. We can't go back, but we have to realize that machines may be good for doing a lot of our menial jobs, but maybe we shouldn't let them take over our creative instincts

I’m surprised that a historical society hasn’t done research and recreated some of the headstones. It’s an interesting place but sad that the information for most of it is lost.

What a great old west cemetery. Pretty much everyone in it lived the 1800s even if they died at the start of the 20th century. Been thru Willcox hundreds of times, but never been there.

This was one of our favorite cemeteries we've visited. Something about the drive there and really seeing little else but the mountains and shrub around... Unfortunately we didn't spend a lot of time there as it was summer and those ants you saw were crawling around the ground absolutely EVERYWHERE. Didn't want to stand still too long. 😅

I pass through Wilcox several times a year. I will have to look this up sometime. Maybe you were able to get through on that "rough road" because you were driving a 4x4 Prius. I almost typed that all the way through with a straight face.

Yea , we drove our small KIA sedan there. You're right. No problem on the dirt road, but the road in town there near where he was shot , we bottomed out on a paved road. So the paved road was worse than that dirt road. Anyway, great video as always.

why wasnt a warrant issued for cactus jack, i know in the movie u had turkey creek and cactus jack, they show both of them as part of the posse at the end of the movie, when they went after the cowboys that were left

so the rumor is that john wayne knew wyatt and was at his funeral and that wayne got his acting mannerism from wyatt, but i dont think wayne ever met wyatt

Sorry your voice is raspy. Tea with lemon and honey is recommended. Carry your water with you and some hard candy. I'm a singer so I share these tips with you. The wooden grave markers are cool. It's amazing that they withstand the elements. I love the carvings on the Earp headstone. It has a real wild west flavor. Thank you for walking among all the ant hills so we don't have to.🤣
