The voicing slider is such a brilliant invention which brings so much. Almost so obvious that one wonders why it wasn’t thought of sooner. (I do seem to recall some kind of mechanical mod from the Dyno days which one operated with one’s knee, but can’t remember what it is right now.) When I owned a Rhodes, I found it a shame that revoicing was such a long process and impractical. Bravo Vintage Vibe! I hope this becomes an option on all the builds, not just the signature models. Great video as always, Matt. Thanks!

Fond memories of spending a couple hours with a screwdriver dialing in the tone of my Suitcase 88. Tried out all of those tones but didn't have to think twice about where I wanted it. Right where you had it for Living in the CIty. Harmonic and growls, even without saturation, when you hit it hard. Very cool feature to control it with a slider.

Damn! That thing sounds so beautiful! Congrats Matt! I like the Rhodes MK 8 also. But the VV has a certain character that I like. Just a matter of choice! I just wish VV would make a 88 key version. I played a MKII suitcase 88 model and never look backed. I can see a 88 key version with midi/usb interface. Vintage Vibe is the shot!😌🎹❤️👍🏾

That is awesome Matt, I love your work with Jamiroquai. I'm trying to work out the keyboard part for Black Capricorn Day right now to cover it with my band! I have an old Mark 2, 54 note Rhodes which I'm currently messing around with, changing the tone bar grommets and re-voicing, etc. It's doable, but yeah takes a long time! That slider on your Vintage vibe to adjust the voicing it just awesome!

With all due respect to the Rhodes Mark 8, that appears to be a wonderful recreation, if you want true innovation and an improved tine piano, Vintage Vibe is the way to go. While the new Rhodes company in England professes that there is only one Rhodes, all they really did was purchase the rights to the name. As Matt says, don't just by the name, listen and play them. The guys at Vintage Vibe have been restoring Rhodes pianos for over 20 years. Their wealth of knowledge from dismantling and rebuilding all versions of the Rhodes piano is what led them to building their improved version. They have cut weight, size, improved the action, refined the tines, added innovations like the "Variable Voice Control" that Matt demonstrates here, "Duel Capstan Action, and improved electronics. Plus unlike the Rhodes Mark 8, VV offers many different models. You can buy an entry level VV Piano starting at @ 6K American Dollars. Full disclosure. I do not work for Vintage Vibe and I don't own one. I have bought many parts from them however, to keep my 40 year old Mark II Rhodes going strong but I have played a Vintage Vibe Piano and hope to one day own one. Don't take my word for it. Just look at all the heavies in the industry now touring and recording on a Vintage Vibe piano.

Fred diLeone mastery at it's finest! The new mod is not only spectacular, it's REFRESHING. It's about practicality and it's for REAL musicians. It's not about having a preamp with 100000 questionable effects, that will sound the same for everyone. In a car, we would care about having a more performing engine, not about green neon fog lights. Loved the demo, simple, effective and it finally shows what you can do with such a piano in a small ensemble. Cheers, Matt!

I bought my Rhodes Stage Piano in 1972. I gave it to my best friend in 1999 when I moved to Vegas.It's still working. I no longer had a need for an EXTREMELY heavy instrument that only had ONE SOUND. I've been using a Kurzweil ever since. I would consider this model because I can change the sounds. It's a real pain if you're a gigging musician to haul around something as heavy as a Rhodes when the audience you're playing for (and people listening to your uploads on Spotify and KZfaq) can't tell the difference. I want to know how much does this unit weigh? If it's heavy,I can see it staying in the studio,but it ain't going to the gig.
@derfsup
@derfsup 2 жыл бұрын

Nice keyboard. OOh Stevie Wonders Living In the City sound was so good. Wish I was performing again, but the pandemic pretty much stopped live performance here in Reno, NV, I own a Korg Digital Grand (left to me by my late mom) and a Roland XP 80 with many of the sounds you have but not full size keys. Anyway if I had money for more piano lessons I'm 68 and retired now ) I would get your signature keyboard , but for now I accompany myself with piano, with my trumpet and flugelhorn so I just have to be happy with just watching and listening to you to hear your sounds. Love your playing btw. Thanks so much for sharing. It actually made me get up and accompany you with my clavinet sounds and keyboard sounds.

Your VV signature piano looks and sounds gorgeous, Matt, and the variable voice control is a brilliant innovation. I very much enjoyed my brief ‘taste’ soon after you received it. I look forward to hearing what you do with it, hopefully live as well as in the studio. Regarding comparisons with the Rhodes Mk8, I agree with your notion that buyers should choose the piano that sounds and offers functions that best suit their personal taste. With all that’s going on in the world, we don’t need another ‘war’! There’s room for both, and I would argue that the player makes as much difference to the eventual ‘sound’. I’m lucky that over the years, thanks to Bill Dunne, Tim Wallhead and Dan Goldman, my Dyno modified Mk1 is still going strong, although I would like it to gracefully retire to my studio before it completely collapses :) I’ll then be looking for a younger model…😉

I love the tones of this instrument - but could neither afford one - NOR want to lug one around - nor deal with all the setup and unreliability issues - so.. Matt - how about either a custom crafted Kontakt library ( non-free ) or better still.. liaising with either AAS or Modaart to produce a truly emulated version ? I really love these tones! Maybe liaise with Yamaha (like Chick Core did on MONTAGE ) or another biggie so we can have this in a stage keyboard? Make my day :)
