Yeah like Doom 2016, as I call it Doom 4, which was in development since ID Software wrapped up Doom 3 and it's expansion, so back around the 2000's and it took them till 2016 to get it right and released. An example of Development Hell that was covered here on the channel.

@Jabroni Destroyer For anyone who was playing any FPS on PC at the time, Golden Eye was already obsolete and overrated. If you only had a console, it is fun especially the split-screen and there weren't many FPS on consoles like that, but Time Splitters and Halo a few years later made Golden Eye look like an unfinished prototype as far as console FPS goes.
@Wallychans

@Jabroni Destroyer Did you somehow forget the internet was shit back then and people didn’t have it? If you actually wanted to play with friends, which is what most kids with a social life like to do, goldeneye was the only way for most... One system: one tv, one console, and four controllers opposed to how many monitors and PCs? I don’t think I even remember the game for the game itself, I remember it for the dumb fun times I had with my other 12-14 year old friends playing it and eating junk food. It lead to good fun.
@PPN462

@Wallychans LAN parties and Internet cafés were a thing at the time for someone who wanted to play multiplayer FPS and had no connection at home. I still went there despite having Internet and being fully able to play those games at home at the time funnily enough for the human interaction parts, so I am not sure why you felt the need to berate people with the "kids with a social life" remarks. Also Internet was "shit" by today's standards, but that does not mean that you couldn't perfectly play games at the time. Doom, Hexen, Quake, Unreal, Half-life etc were working fine despite being fast and latency-dependent games. @Jabroni Destroyer I didn't mind as much since I found them fun regardless but it definitely hurt my eyes, even as a kid to play N64 games at my friends' place haha. Slowdown and blurry pictures were very noticeable when you were used to higher resolution and framerate with 3dfx.

This game was REALLY lucky it came out as it did, because holy hell, you can't make a movie tie-in at that level, and that late today, and for awhile, a James Bond game. Sony was also the distributor for the James Bond films from 2006 to 2015; crucial dates for the 360 remake and its inclusion in Rare Replay. Rumors stated Microsoft also had to negotiate with Sony. Allegedly all parties at the table were asking for a cut of the sales with Nintendo and Sony asking for the remake to release on their consoles. Rumors circulated at one point stating Microsoft had agreed to pay a fee to EON, MGM, and Sony with the remake only releasing on the 360 and Nintendo selling the N64 version on the Virtual Console. One party backed out and it looks like it was EON. Since then, Phil Spencer has said every time they consider releasing the remake they either can't obtain all the necessary licenses, or they can't reach a financial agreement with the involved parties. Maybe they can pull a "Too Human" and reach an agreement to release it for free.

With how many cheats there were in the game, im surprised they didnt develop the rumble reload mechanic anyways and include it as a cheat, i can see it being called "professional reloads" or some such nonsense
@ballsrgrossnugly
@ballsrgrossnugly 3 жыл бұрын
Likely Nintendo saw that mechanic, read the spec sheet that said that rumble pack jack was rated to be good for maybe 2000 CAREFUL inserts and removals, pictured teenagers all over the world absolutely destroying their controllers within 2 weeks of buying the game by yanking out the rumble pack and shoving it back in at light speed and with no regard for the delicate electronics that are exposed at the connection point, all while in a blind panic and being fired upon, hundreds of times per playthrough, and said a blanket "FUUUUUUUUUUUCK NO"

@@weareoutbreak89 it was a great idea, but the controller was definitely not built for it. The expansion release button on the slot was pretty flimsy as it was. I can't imagine it being put through its paces like the actual face buttons. Not to mention it had connector pins like a cartridge slot that could be damaged if the device is jammed in crooked. @@rickpgriffin yeah, i totaly agree with you on that part. It would have been a great joke if it had worked out as intended, but yeah, the N64 Controler wasnt really reliable. Why may you ask? because over the course of several Years, 3 or 4 analog-sticks lost their flexibility and couldnt be used anymore (sorry, i dont know how to describe what i mean). also, if i remember correctly, i once had the case where a "Z"-Button broke, right in the middle of a Bossfight with King K-rule from Donkey Kong 64... by god, i loved the Controler for its weird design and that you could use it in many different ways.... but i definately had no luck with my versions of it. :((((

“They left us alone and we made a great game.” That pretty much sums up the gaming industry. Those greedy, profit driven managers and C-level execs only think about the short term. “Just rush it! We’ll fix the bugs later. It will sell just fine.” *game bombs* “Whu happun?! Clearly it was those bloody pirates! Definitely NOT our heavily monetized and unfinished game!” I’m convinced MBA instruction of the past 30 years just pulls a bait and switch on the last day of class. “So, let’s sum up. Steady growth, invest in your company, listen to your underlings.... HA! Gotcha! All that matters is that sweet, short term profit.”

Blocking the Goldeneye remaster from release has to be the denial to the easiest money EON has ever made in their life. Constantly hearing that famous Bond jingle everytime someone died every few or so seconds. Usually with a stream of cascading explosions rocking the N64 hardware, and everybody laughing when it happened. Everybody learned, first hand, the theory of volumetric explosions (especially around and in vents) and the domino effect of one mine explosion setting off other mines. (Or even nastier, stair bombs. Because they were hardest to detect, and they certainly won’t help you jump higher like in Quake.) It was like a First Person “Spy Vs. Spy” comic experience.

I know I've suggested a few things in the past, but I have another idea for a future Wha Happun: Yo-kai Watch A series that was set to be the next Pokemon killer but barely got off the ground in the West and slowly died in its home country.

Well, Level-5 released like 12 games a year and took almost 4 years to release the games in the west. But yeah, an episode about the franchise in general would be good.
@MrZer093
@MrZer093 3 жыл бұрын
It’s still a thing hut it sure as hell ain’t close to a Pokémon killer anymore. It’ll probably keep chugging along for years, at least in Japan. They say they’re localizing the fourth game but that was over a year ago... It would be interesting to see how it went from Level-5’s flagship franchise that actually beat Pokémon in sales (back in gen 6) to where it is today. And the consensus does see, to be what was stated here. Namely that they flooded the market with crap until parents eventually just started to refuse their children’s demands for a new toy because they had just bought them like, 10 that were barely played with before the new ones came out.
@imjust_a
@imjust_a 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's dead in its home country. The series just had a release in 2019, and they even re-ran the cross-over event with FFXIV in 2020. With those in mind, it seems like Level-5 is still very on-board with continuing the franchise -- albeit locally rather than world-wide.

Ohhhh I loved it when my friends picked Odd Job, because he had a major weakness. If you run up close to the character the game's auto aim mechanic always tilted downwards which always puts your bullets into his head. Easy kills to the extent my friends stopped picking the character against me as they realized that the cheap Odd Job gimmick didn't work against me lol

The Oddjob issue only applies when Auto Aim is turn off. Most players prefer to play without Auto Aim for competitive reasons. Sadly, Unequal Character Heights is considered Competition Standard as it cannot be turned off in the original version, only on XBLA.

I think if there's anyway that a Goldeneye Remake could happen, I think the idea of expanding on the cut idea of having all the past James Bond's together and making this hypothetical remake a celebration of the 007 license and bringing multiple 007 films being adapted for Campaigns for the British Super Spy, so the idea of making a Goldeneye remake as a base/hub for a butt load of content updates both for Single Player and Multiplayer, basically like how Halo Master Chief collection is a hub for all that content, so the idea of having a 007 Film for each Bond to be adapted into a campaign, so the idea of having Goldfinger as one of them, just so they can include Sean Connery Bond as an example, also a reason to throw in baddies from that film like OddJob and Goldfinger for multiplayer.

The final product was actually only really in development for 2~3 years. When Tabata stepped in as director and Nomura stepped down to work on KH3 (and eventually the FF7 Remake), Tabata deemed all the work prior as unusable and made a decision to scrap everything and restart. That's why the characters and story only somewhat resemble the original concepts. They tried to loosely abide by pre-existing promotional material to appease the fans who had been following since Versus-13, but decided on bending it all to fit their new, original story. That's the FFXV we ended up getting. As for sources, there's various interviews with all sorts of people who worked on it, but another telling thing is how little leftover content there was from the original development period. Of all the different iterations of character designs we saw, the only two surviving assets from the Nomura-era of development were a model of Noctis' original outfit design, and his dad's original outfit design. For those who might not know, games that go through extended periods of development will usually have a plethora of leftover assets from bygone eras of development.

@@MattMcMuscles Also to be fair, at the time of the movie's release (1995) that is correct. Quake released in 1996, which means that the developers were in active development of the game and most likely didn't get a chance to play Quake upon its initial release all the way up to the release of GoldenEye N64 in 1997. It’s just sad that companies such as EON Productions treat their franchises like they can only exist with current attachments, even that James Bond has such a legacy that it’s almost criminal to keep re-releasing all the movies every time when a new film gets released but won’t let even a single remastered game entry to come out.

As someone who spent much of my adolescence playing GE64, I'd love to see EON do the right thing and just let it happen. Yes, I have played the remake myself and I love the way the framerate is nice and consistent for it on the pc (if i could get enough xbox 360 wireless controllers together I'd actually mod an xbox 360 console just for it) but having said that, i hate the idea of having to jump through all these hoops just to play the masterpiece with questionable legality. If say EON said "ok, sure, but we want to make a ton of money off it so $60" I'd be fine with that, and I'd pre-order it quicker than you could say "$60 for a 13 year old remaster of a 25 year old game?" I agree entirely regarding the protect Natalya missions though, I actually put down the controller on the remaster out of frustration the other day after I pushed my way to the end of jungle (I was shooting the guys that run out from the tunnel at the end) as Natalya thought it would be fun to commit suicide by putting her head infront of my AR33 whilst I was shooting at about half a dozen Janus grunts... and to think I used to play jungle on the N64 for fun, FUN! was i insane?
