The best feature of Robert Saleh's coaching tenure has been his ability to get defensive players to elevate their game into elite levels.

True -- esp. the line. And I'm sick of hearing how defense is volatile, so you can't count on a top 5 defense for the third straight year. Defense is only volatile when compared to offense, which is highly dependant on QB play. Barring disastrous injuries, the Chiefs are going to have a highly productive offense, because Mahomes is there. Defense is a team sport, but I think we're upgrading in most places: Sauce is entering his third year, and I can't help but think of Revis' third year, where he 1 on 1'd the best receivers in the league and allowed none of them to gain over 40 yards. Kinlaw's a downgrade. Well, maybe -- every time we say goodbye to the small DI, we think we're losing something, and then along comes Rankins/Jefferson to pick up where the last guy left off. Safety's an upgrade from last year. Not saying a whole lot, but Chuck Clark > Whitehead, and Tony Adams was a rookie last year. The Williams brothers are due for a regression to the mean: that means better play from Quinnen, and not quite as blow your doors off play from Quincy. God I want to see this defense play with a lead.

Huff was the pressure king, but WMD is going to turn pressures into sacks. That length makes a huge difference. I want Reddick around for training camp because my only criticism against McDonald is he could definitely add to his arsenal.

Saleh is a terrific defensive line coach and developer of talent there. He’s possibly a great defensive coordinator but his body of work there was brief at SF and his immediate predecessor did at least as well and is now a playoff head coach at Houston. So yeah, I’m not sold on Saleh as a head coach.

So many jets fans think Huff was a blunder by Joe Douglas but i think they believe in WMD. I dont think Saleh thought Hiff was an every down DE... And i think by mid season Jets fans will have forgotten about huff due to the emergence of McDonald...

I have a feeling that if we didn't take WMD, he still would've been taken in the 1st. We've seen it every single year where a handful of players are thought of very differently by teams compared to what draft analysts think. I still think our first choice was Broderick Jones, but I think WMD was a lot higher on teams draft board than most realize.
@Harlemnite7

Jets shouldn't be worried about other teams draft boards.
@lightxgrenade
@lightxgrenade Ай бұрын
@@Harlemnite7 that makes no sense. If a team didn't care about anyone else's draft board, there would be no trades during the draft. Every team cares about what other teams think of the prospects they like and don't like.

@lightxgrenade They scout these players for years and still get it wrong. They have scouts, college coaches, film, background checks and face to face interviews.
@lightxgrenade
@lightxgrenade Ай бұрын
@@Harlemnite7 That's not the point. The point is when you should select a player. I'm arguing that if the Jets wanted Will McDonald, they had to take him when they did because he was a lot higher on team's draft boards than most people think and he wouldn't have made it much farther down the draft. If you think a player is going to be great, you feel like your team really needs him, of course you care about where other teams rank him. The last thing you would want is a team trading in front of you for that player. If what other teams thought of a player didn't matter, no one would trade up in the draft, they would just hope the player they want fell to them.

Obviously they saw some raw talent in him to pick him that early. His arms are like trees there long as heck. I trust Joe Douglas with his pick. I just wish we signed Huff instead of dealing with this B.S. with Riddick
@BillySBC
@BillySBC Ай бұрын
He is a 1st Round talent, if the Jets had not selected him another team would have in the 1st Round. He was in a crowded room on defense of a lot of talented more experienced players. If the Jets can take a walk-on player like Huff and make him a solid player then they can certainly do the same with McDonald.
@ULuvBobs_92
@ULuvBobs_92 Ай бұрын
I think what happened was that draft was not great overall and in a normal draft he would’ve been a late 1st round pick because that’s where good pass rush specialists usually go so. The jets value pass rush so much they probably had him around 15 which makes sense given it was a bad draft. Mcdonald isn’t gonna be Von Miller or Nick Bosa but he can be a better version of Bryce huff which is fine.
@BillySBC
@BillySBC Ай бұрын
@@ULuvBobs_92 It was a bad draft? I don't think Joe Tippman was a bad pick or Carter Warren in the 3rd either. As far as MD4 goes, it remains to be seen with him as he gets more playing time. I'm just saying, he was a 1st Round talent and another team would have taken him in the 1st, so he's a very good player, you have to be to be taken in the 1st Round.

@ULuvBobs_92 Ай бұрын
@@BillySBC I meant the draft overall was light on first round talent, I remember a quote came out from a GM who said you usually have 20+ first round grades and that year they had 13 guys with first round grades. I think in a normal draft McDonald is a late first.

Lots of confidence in McDonald's increasing productivity. If the Jets had any offensive coaches that could develop talent and creative schemes at the level of their defensive staff, they would win the Superbowl, but instead they have Rodgers' large ego and a bunch of clowns, so they won't.

"WMD will never be as good against the run...." I disagree... WMD is a special dude and to doubt his run d based on size is a pretty lame take. Reddick who plays the run well is only 240 lbs too.
