Mamiya 7 135 adapter kit converts your medium format 120 film camera into a 35mm Hasselblad Xpan panoramic camera alternative! This is great if you already own a Mamiya 7 or if you want a proper 35mm panoramic film camera. The video shows two ways of loading 35mm film into a Mamiya 7 film camera. First is the official Mamiya 7 35mm panoramic adapter kit. Second is the much cheaper method of using 3D printed film spools. I must mention, if you use the 35mm to 120 adapter you need to unload the film at night or in a dark bag as there is no quick way to rewind the film.

You can also make this yourself- Saw through an empty 120 spool; bottom piece should be 24 mm Top 23mm (doesnt matter that much) and then file them down until theyre 7-8mm in diameter and can fit in the 35mm canister Any 120 spool with tape at top and bottom of the same measurements you cut off for the adapter spool will work as takeup.

This was very interesting. I love it when one can expand capabilities of a camera by addiotional accessories. Like in this case, or with Leica M analog bodies by using a Visoflex to allow use of long tele lenses. If only there was a fully, 100% mechanical panorama camera in the style of an XPan. With the build quality of an Leica M3.

"If only there was a fully, 100% mechanical panorama camera - the build quality of an Leica M3" - That's easy ! - Not a plastic cheaply made, low-duty camera with flaky aging electronics using a fiddley 35mm kit (Mamiya 7). - - - Just install Hasselblad's # 41151 6X3 panoramic mask KIT to your Hasselblad 500C/M - There you go, a durable fully mechanical & RELIABLE 30mm X 60mm Pano using amazing Zeiss glass ! - Oh yea, if you already own a 500c or C/M, this 'kit' is less than $400 BTW, there is a way to get 20 Pano images instead of just 12 out of the (cheaper than 35mm) 120 roll of film ; it calls for buying an 'old' 12 Back to sacrifice/modify (not the newer A12 model back; the regular back is CHEAP), then simply Dremel away three teeth of a large gear in the 'old & cheap' back. Finally, if you want to go back to 'Full-Frame' medium format? Just QUICKLY remove the back and install a normal A12 back...

Hi Matt, I am VERY interested in getting the mamiya 7 and 35mm adapter to shoot 35mm pano. My question is, is there any way to accurately frame your shots when set up for this? Can you clip on so,e sort of mask on the viewfinder or something in order to see the panoramic s cone in the frame that will be shot when composing the shot….rather than look through viewfinder and just guess what will be where. Thank you in advance !! CC

Hi Matt, I have a new Mamiya 6 (not the MF) version to which I know there’s a 135 panoramic adapter for the Mamiya 6 MF just like Mamiya 7. The Mamiya 6 MF seems to be very similar to the Mamiya 6 except for the viewfinder with markings for different formats. I’m trying to find out if the Mamiya 6 MF’s 135 panoramic adapter will fit the Mamiya 6 too? Would you know about this? I can’t find on internet answers to my question. Hope you know

I guess a super cheapskate method would be to use the 3d adaptors in a much cheaper camera such as an Ensign selfix 820 used with the printed adaptors and with the mask open for 9cm, giving an even wider panorama. The cassette will fit, I've just tried a couple of 120 6x9 cameras. It would be necessary to do a bit of preparation on how many turns to wind on as the rear window would have to be kept closed. I think with a a second set of adaptors you could wind into a second cassette so no need to rewind or open in the dark,. Cameras that use drop-in masks (for 6x6) would obviously permit home-made 35mm masks. Perhaps the top adaptor design would have to be modified to allow it to be wound. Re-usable cassettes are also cheap, as is bulk film, relatively. I have a Russian 35mm Horizont panoramic which is fun and has a 28mm lens, equivalent to the 30mm widest lens of the X-Pan. Images are prone to distortion though. Or just use 120 film and crop, if you are not doing a lot images. Likewise the adaptors would probably work in an old-fashioned 6x9 roll-film adaptor for use on larger format cameras. I have one of those and might give it a try.
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom
@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom 3 жыл бұрын
Hi yes I use the 3D printed adapter in 6x9 vintage cameras and others. I've not tried using the Mamiya 7 adapter in other cameras but the spools would fit any camera (I think).. you just can't use the rewind mechanism (easily). I found the mask didn't make a huge difference. Either way experimenting is fun! (I should have mentioned in the video I tried shooting 120 film then cropping after but for me it gives too many options.. meaning you can crop it any way you feel in post.. which I guess is good and bad ha.

I just bought some 3d printed adapter pieces for my mamiya 7 and installed everything like you did- but my camera won’t recognize that it has film in it for some reason. The counter won’t advance and I can’t take a shot. But the crank is smooth. And I did rotate the plate.. do you know what could be going on? The only thing that separates me and your setup is that my pieces came with its own take up spool made to fit the 35mm film so I don’t have to tape it on a regular 120. There’s a forum on Facebook where I guy is also having the same issue so I know I’m not alone here.

Hi David, how far have you tried advancing the film? I ask as my setup wasted the first 10 frames or so even if I taped extra film on the front. Did you see my big post? I've done the cheap alternative on my Mamiya 6 MF, however it seems to want to intially advance a lot, meaning you only get approx 10 shots per 35mm 36exp roll. I've tried taping a long piece of film to the film and winding it back into the canister so that I could use the whole roll, however it seems to then just want to advance more and need a double advance per frame which is so bizarre. Any advice?

Did you manage to work out a way of releasing the film and using a coin to respool it? @@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Those are definitely Bromide drag marks from developing. I do the cheap pano method in the Pentax 6x7 to great effect, but am left unspooling in the dark. You can cheat the counter in the P67 so you don't lose many of frames. I know you're a rangefinder guy, but I would think you would like the Pentax 6x7 with a Late 90mm 2.8 or 75mm lens. I get it when you can not afford an Xpan, Mamiya 7 is not a cheap camera either. Wasting a huge portion of a 120 6x7 film does not sound cool to me. Shoot 120 and crop it in PS.
