Wood is just higher maintenance, and that's why a lot of people don't want it on an exterior. It can also rot. Wood is a perfectly high quality product if you're willing to deal with the maintenance.

@@rty44551 There is certainly some merit to that. Matt has become really good at speaking to his audience, the program is done well. To me, it totally removes me from the show and distracts me when there's an interruption like that. Sometimes we just gotta swallow our tongues, maybe just for a few minutes.

Here what I would say is the biggest hang up with using wood for exterior anything at some point you have to refinish it all the time vs composite products same goes for wood windows and doors.

Hey Matt great channel. I was wanting to see if you could maybe later on make a video on recess lighting ultra thin vs retro fit vs cans. Pros and cons maybe. Great video sir
@chriswithrow3107
@chriswithrow3107 3 жыл бұрын
Pros of a "real" can light is that you know that that space will always be open and you can install any kind of LED can trim in the future, the 1/2 inch ultra thin lights which resemble a can, that I install often, may very well be installed partially over one or two ceiling joists or the bottom chords on a truss, because the thickness allows it to fit. This means if you were to want to change something in the future you could run into a nasty surprise, since you would be unable to locate anything but a "pancake' electrical box there, which do not accommodate all fixtures, and are a real hassle no matter what.
@drummerguy676
@drummerguy676 3 жыл бұрын
@@chriswithrow3107 thank you for your reply bro. Reason I ask this is because I have recess cans all throughout my house and was thinking of removing them to install the ultra thin lights. I like the ultra thin for the fact that they are pretty bright and use very little power. I was just wondering if it was a good idea or bad haha. I guess if push comes to shove if I did install the ultra thin and didn’t like them I can always install the cans again. Thank you for reaching out bro 👍🏽
@chriswithrow3107
@chriswithrow3107 3 жыл бұрын
@@drummerguy676 You can actually buy a brighter LED trim for a real can from Halo, than what is available in any wafer light (inc. Halo) that I've seen, and the efficiency of the two is almost identical, all the technology is the same. They just have the driver in a separate box vs mounted permanently on top of the light. You are fortunate to already have the cans, as long as you like their location.

I really wish the industry would correct the "Shou sugi ban" misnomer. A few people incorrectly translated yaki as "Shou" and now we have an entire industry mixing Chinese and Japanese words to describe a traditional Japanese technique, yakisugi.

What does he mean longleaf pine is extinct? Is he referring to specific cultivar or just old growth... because it most certainly isn't extinct... it is also known as southern yellow pine, which is one of the most dominant woods in the US lumber industry.
