I don't think it was meant in a really sour way - I think he just wants more acting opportunities, i.e. John Shelby was a bit limited in terms of character growth and screen time. He still mentions Peaky Blinders in his interviews he does for other shows, so it doesn't seem like there's any bad blood.

As soon as you watch some of the interviews with the lead characters as the actual people they are every day, you realize how v e r y talented they are and what truly excellent acting is done in this series!🌷 I hope there is a historical overview of this period somewhere (relating to this script) and the countries involved, to explain their outsider impact on the Shelby’s life as a family .....a n d the political influences on working people of Ireland at the time. The plot is confusing for me sometimes, especially when I see the Irish townfolk seem to embrace the Fascist leadership evolving , and when the people express racial and semitic hatred. (I’m supposing Hitler’s rise is around the corner.)Glad though, that the Shelby’s are shown to not be a part of supporting that, and they do always show their pride in their own Gypsy ancestry. ......It’s all so heartbreaking sometimes, with Tommy’s PTSD, loss of love, and trying to protect his family. The whole series is SO brilliant and magnetic!!!

The show has s historical consultants one is 1 of the great great grandsons of the real life Peaky Blinders. He is a historian and specialized in the socio-economic history of Birmingham and how the industrial revolution affected working class people and power struggles between working class and ruling class and what lead to the formation of such Vicious gangs , interestingly he said the original Peaky Blinders were only aged between 16 and 25 years old and the gang was dismantled relatively quickly because they were mostly very young men. The scene where the policeman is bought in to “ clean up town” is reminiscent of that .

One dislike I have about the show is how John had to die. I understand his death was inevitable because he was given different opportunities for movies and shows but the way he died was just embarrassing. For a war veteran to stand in direct fire with no cover against automatic machine guns is unrealistic. On top of that if I recall correctly he was ambushed by three or four of Luca Changretta's men and he only had a bolt-action rifle with him so what in the actual was he thinking when he decided stand out in the open like that lol. The show is still my favorite honestly I enjoy much of the acting, body language, scenery and characters that it has to offer. I can't wait for season 6 finale!

Peeky Lee, "John Dogs" ROCKS (Juan Perros, in Spanish, there is a singer who calls himself Juan Perro..haha). He is so ironic, I like that. It seems there is some fun at the sets too. And how many people around, working or not.. I wonder how the actors are able to concentrate and do their job so well. I don't know if they might have stumble on some BBC civil servant, so is not this drama developped for the BBC. Thanks Matt
