A quick little video to answer some of the mature student related questions I've had sent my way recently.
- Can you explain further if there are any differences with being a mature student?
- Is there a big cultural divide between you and the teenagers?
- How have you funded the course?
- What were your entry requirements to get onto the foundation year and did your previous job have anything to do with physics?

Amazing video! so much insight, it made me realize that there is still time to go back and study! thanks so much for the inspiration! Did you contact the university beforehand to see how likely you would be to get in? i am also looking to apply to the university of Nottingham(foundation year) but i do not have the grade requirements. should i still apply?

Joshua Olawole Hi! Glad you found the video helpful. And yes, contact the uni! I didn’t have the right grades either but they look at each student on a case by case basis. So definitely get in touch. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

This is a really helpful video! I can only find a full-time physics course on Nottigham's website - I'm looking at the second STEM degree loan for part-time students and was wondering how you got to do your course at 75% intensity. Did you contact the uni and ask for this specifically? Do you think other unis might offer the same deal even if they advertise the course as full-time?

Thanks Jack :) If you search for part-time course, it says Physics BSc is offered part-time. Usually it's 50% intensity, but I asked and they have been very accommodating. I think many unis probably offer courses part-time but might not advertise, so I recommend contacting them directly. Try and speak to the admissions tutor if you can.

Hi Hannah, thank you for sharing your experience about being a mature student. I have just accepted a conditional offer for a Secondary History PGCE, at The University of Wolverhampton. Over the last six years, I have gained quite a lot of experience in schools as a volunteer, covering teaching assistant, and cover supervisor, which I was able to demonstrate during my virtual interview, and which helped my application. I have applied for a student loan, and spoken to Student Finance, and I will be entitle to the full amount. I am also wondering if I can speak to my bank about an overdraft to cover the period while I am doing my PGCE?.

Hi Alan, hope you found it useful. You should be able to apply for a student bank account with access to an interest free overdraft in most cases. Money Saving Expert has some good info on this 👍🏻

Hi Hannah, I'm hoping to start a second undergraduate degree in Mathematics this September. There's something I'm worried about which I wonder if you might be able to offer advice/insight on. From what I can gather, since I already have a degree, I don't technically have home student fee status, which means that the universities are allowed to charge as much as they want for the degree. In the offer letters I've received they've said that I've been classified as a Home/EU student for tuition fee purposes and as such will pay £9,250/year (which I can afford, albeit only just). However it seems that the systems that wrote the letters weren't aware of the technicality of first degree holders not being considered as home students by the government. So I'm worried that at some point they might look into it further and decide to charge me international fees, which I certainly can't afford. I'm scared to even ask them about it because that might prompt them to look into it and realise they should be charging me international fees. Do you know anything about this issue? Many thanks in advance!

How much did they charge you in the end?

@@djr301074 I ended up doing an MSc instead. But I left the final decision until the very last minute and there was no indication that the fees would be any higher than the Home/EU fees. I can't say for sure though whether that might've changed.

Perhaps this is too late a comment and you won't read this but. Is there any chance you went for the Engineering and Physical Sciences H100 Foundation at Nottingham? I actually applied to this course at Nottingham in January as a 23 year old mature student to go on to do a Computer Science degree following work experience in a civil engineering company. If that's the case that's a hell of a coincidence because you're the first video I opened, alsoa mature student, also at the same University and also studying for the same course. If so and you read this I'd love to discuss more and have a load of questions perhaps there's a way to contact you?
