I got my life together in my 40's. Teenage years lost to war and immigration, twenties lost to a debilitating illness and recovery from it, 30's lost to having had to catch up on education and making money that I could not do in my twenties due to the illness...Got finally everything together in my 40's, living my best life. It's possible. And sometimes you just don't have a choice, life does not run in a straight line for everyone, so you have to make it WHEN you can, whatever that age is for you.

Inspiring story. I began to sort my life recently, and i am almost 40. I have not been through war or serious ilness, but i had emotional problems in my 20,s, which i could not solve, so i escaped from them. fortunately, i did not become a drunk, addict or anything, just felt stuck in a loop. Life is a not a game when you have to check the boxes, make the quest before anyone else etc. I am still singel, but well,n ot everyone is meant to have a family and kids, does not mean your life does not hold value. You gotta seek your own path, not emulate what people around you do. Some of them are clueless just you were , but just try to hide it.

I was making $35k at 35. Now at 40, I am making $150k, own a home and have a kid on the way. Its hard when you are in the thick of being at rock bottom to believe life can turn around, but it absolutely can. You just have to have a concrete methodical plan and be patient. Cut out all destructive friends, addictions, etc and get your health, spending and daily routine straight. The most important thing is to keep learning the skills and knowledge you need to get to where you want to be.

@Dan Lons my first comment was deleted. Here we go: 6 months head in HTML/CSS and Javascript to understand how web development work. Then turned focus into Python and stuck with it. I'd do 3 Python problems daily over and over again until every single concept stuck. After I was comfortable enough with it, started doing every single youtube Python project follow along video I could find. Then I'd do them on my own over and over. Applied for at least 20 entry level jobs until one landed. (I'd send my very modest portfolio even if I wasn't the fit they were looking for.)

Exactly. There is a video with Steve Harvey and he says 99 percent of people "waste" their lives in their 20s. It's just the way things go. You're not alone and trust me, being in your 20s when the 2008 bubble hit, yeah that has long lasting effects. If you are 30 now, I'm 31, you have MADE it this far. It's not all on you. Now the future and your next Decisions is all on you. Only you can change it. Don't worry about the past. It's done. Make the memories and experiences work for you. Godspeed everybody. Anyone over 50 would give everything they have to be 32 and homeless, including Jeff Bezos, Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, etc. You have something they would give all their fortunates to have, another 20+ years added to their lives. You are richer beyond your imagination, and maybe that is the problem, it's beyond most people's imagination so they can never value while they have it.

I'm 33 and turning 34 in a month or so. My life is absolutely miserable, i did everything wrong and closed myself hard to everything for the last 10 years or so. Never finished anything i did and now i'm in the middle of a serious anxiety disorder, fear of death, of where i am, of my parents dying. Its rough, but i'm trying hard to learn coding, got into a psychiatrist, a psychologist. God thiis is rough and i never though a video in the internet would be something that help me, even if just a bit. But thank you.

Man your really coming from a sincere truthful place. My story is similar to yours, spent 20s being a degenerate and flunking out of a 4 year university, and now I'm 29, and it just hit me one day of like oh shit, I wasted so much time not building myself, and now I've got my 30s then my 40s ect, I'm now studying for an associates degree, building skills in my sparetime, learning to finish things i start, and just trying to improve myself. Alot of painful lessons to get here and that how I know your putting down facts that the younger people should really listen too. Glad to see though that others have had similar paths and are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak after turning themselves around. Perhaps I'm not where i want to be, but the path im on now has a future in it as long as i keep putting in the work.

Absolutely true! At 35 I quit drinking, smoking, and completely wasting my potential at a factory job where I'd worked for 10 years and where the last day of work was almost identical to the first. I threw that whole life away and made a big break - not necessarily a clean break but a big, dramatic break. My friends who wanted me to hang out with them and stay drunk were angry and the friends I had who wanted the best for me understood my leaving. I left town. I left everyone. I hit reset. I started out with only the money I could make in busking (which is no more and no less than hustling with a guitar) and odd jobs. But I lived cheap with no need for alcohol, tobacco, and other ludicrous expenses. I bought ten big notebooks, a Parker fountain pen, and started writing. I read James Clear's 'Atomic Habits'. I began waking up at 4 A.M. and running every other morning. I started a study routine. I began making a new, tiny circle of friends who were trying to make their own lives better. I read, diligently, the works of great people of the past. I still do all this on a daily basis and it costs nothing. Now I have new problems but they are the problems of a person progressing, of a person getting better. I am 36 - a year has passed - and I don't recognize myself. I have my own business now and it is growing every day. I was homeless then and my prospects were shrinking every night. I just assumed I was too old to change.
@TheFxEditor
@TheFxEditor 2 жыл бұрын
What is your business in? How did you change so drastically in one year?
@ElliotBrownJingles
@ElliotBrownJingles 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheFxEditor I do repair work, painting, and installations on residential properties. Most of my "work" time is spent networking and advertising. A lesson I had to learn quickly was that not everyone is my customer. I only do the highest paying clients now in the richest part of town (unless it is an elderly person, for example, who really does need an urgent job done - then I'll help them out). I managed to change so drastically because of what I've cut out of my life. I had just as much time then as I do now but I wasted every minutes of it proactively. I saw free time as something needing to be filled up. What I've realized is that the progress I'm making now isn't all that amazing - It's the progress I would have been making all along if I didn't have all the obstacles I'd placed in my own way. For example: a year ago if I'd done a small repair job and made, say, $1,000 I would let the news out to my friends. They'd be knocking on my bedroom door within 20 minutes asking where the party's at. It might seem like a stupid problem but that kind of mindset was holding me back. In short: I've cut out all the time-wasting (and it was almost all time-wasting) and I started treating my hours as sacred.

From men we tend to come into our own around our mid 30s. I’m a late bloomer. I didn’t treat my 20s right. Now I’m in my 30s doing way more that I would’ve screwed up in my 20s. A great childhood is so important because I believe a large part of us didn’t use our 20s wisely due to what we endured as children, and unresolved, it carried over into adulthood. We gotta get to the root of things, heal, and keep moving forward.

When I got 18 and escaped that "prison", went all in and fucked up 5 years of my life without doing anything productive, only living pay check to pay check and partying. Some things have to be done, at the right time. My parents are great and they only wanted what was best for me, but they failed to give me freedom. They saw that when it was too late, and gave my brother the freedom I never had. 😁

In fact maybe you overwork yourself, pushing too hard, breaking yourself down, thinking that this will be the way to get rich and make it! Bit really you just try too hard, overwork, lose relationships, miss out on life itself, caught up in the rat race. After 20 years id had enough but i didnt know it yet. It took a near fatal overdose, getting arrested for something serious and sitting in jail being forced to cool out and think. Only 5 months, but a long enough time being completely sober other than methadone for me to see how crazy lucky i was to even be alive, not facing any serious time. It definitely sucks to be starting over essentially at this age but at least i have that opportunity to work on myself including my mental health so for that im grateful. And I've gained a lot of valuable knowledge to be able to help other people who are in a bad situation like i was once in.

Damn. Sometimes life straight up gives you a friendly smile, puts its hand on your shoulder & then sucker punches you right up the guts into the bottom of your lungs knocking the air right out of you, dropping you to your knees & walks away giggling. The question is what do you do from there? Get lost in your own head, daily bad habits & stop taking care of yourself? Or do you decide right now, RIGHT NOW, I'm taking control & going to be proactive, not reactive, & start to create good habits & set goals beginning today. And if the weight of the loss is too much, ask yourself, what would my loved ones say to me? What would they want me to do? Live your best for them.

My heart almost jumped out of my chest when I read the tittle but this video helped me not to see myself as a complete failure. I'm 26 and I haven't done anything with my life because I lost passion for life and the things I used to love. I was 26 when I started my change. It took many years until I hit 31 before I got my degree and then had to take entry level jobs to build my resume. Life is not an on switch. When you start to get passions you will find it is a dimmer and over 10 years it slowly increases. My passion was to prove people wrong that I was a loser who with ADHD was restarted when I was 26. It fueled me and I went to a community college to take just 2 courses I would enjoy. I get straight A's! Those credits are transferable to a state university btw. I worked crappy side hustles and kept at it with school and kept going and going. You can do it. I proved my naysayers wrong. Maybe if that doesn't motivate you find something else. Win at something! Do you love cars? Take a mechanic cert program with several courses and work at a corvette dealership. Love fashion? Go take art courses and apply after 2 years to a fasion institute. You get the picture

I'm 34 and a late bloomer. All good things started happening to me after 30. I moved out, my salary increased, started working on myself both mentally, spiritually and physically and I just generally felt MUCH better - more confident, at peace with myself, stopped giving f*cks about lot of things and people, became more outspoken, set boundaries, realized tons of things about life and it just keeps getting better. Now I'm planning to learn how to ride a motorcycle 😂 I'm just living and trying to keep life interesting without any pressure, grand expectations or great goals. Of course we all have ups and downs in life, no matter the age, but the older you get, the less you are stressed about it because you know, this too shall pass.

5 years for the results, very true. But you could realistically completely change yourself in 6 months. You could lose 50 pounds, or get jacked or train for a marathon if committed. You could start on a new career/ moneymaking path. Get a girlfriend. Develop a lot mentally with conscious practice. Within 6 months you could actually be unrecognisable both physically and in your mentality compared to 6 months before, if you follow a disciplined path of progression each week. Keep that going and in 5 years you are literally a different human being

Otherwise those 5 years will succumb you to abyss, no improvement is not good.

Believe me, 5 years is complete overkill. The amount of stuff that can change in a persons life within just 1 or 2 years is insane. 5 years is only needed when you are completely trying to change your career or when you live in the US/another country where working conditions are so terrible that you need 5 years just to have enough free time.

It took me until my 40s to “get my life together”, and this was after decades of “doing all the right things” beforehand. It literally took decades before I could finally find the right opportunities. Decades of getting educated with multiple “useful” degrees, staying out of debt, drinking, drugs, and finding the right relationship eventually. It still took decades. So even when you “do everything right” for decades, it doesn’t guarantee anything. Luck and being in the “right demographic” unfortunately both play a big part. Both of those things were not necessarily on my side.

It seems you've missed that fact, probably because you haven't lived it. And btw many of those kids of immigrants you speak of ARE Americans (or Canadians or whatever) and are part of the domestic born population. They still have to work way harder than the demographics who have it way easier by virtue of things they never had to work for. Let's put it this way: if a person of colour (regardless of where they were born - btw something that's never questioned of yt people), especially a woman or non-binary person of colour with a disability spent years on drugs, dropped out of school or made the kind of life mistakes the person making this video is talking about, there's absolutely no way that society would even give them a chance to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" - a nonsensical notion in the first place. They'd have no way "coming back". We're not even allowed to make mistakes. Not a single one. A cishet yt man who made the same decisions and worked as hard as I have done in my life would be far more statistically likely to be in a completely different (i.e. more successful) place in life, instead of merely middle class.

Of all my friends I'm the only one with almost no worries and I've been able to travel the world have a new car every 3 years and no stress. I don't regret spending my 20s preparing for my future.

The thing with life is that you may or may not get your life "together" before 30. If you did manage to get it together by 30, there's no guarantee that it'll last. You could lose it at any moment. The most difficult part is to accept this fact and work on yourself regardless. Like for me, I had a decent job and was doing fine till a year ago. Everyone including me thought that I had it together. Then the pandemic and other bunch of stuff all came together and wrecked everything. Now, I'm starting from the ground up again. It sucks but meh such is life.

I feel like there's a bit of a blessing in disguise in struggling in your 20s and getting it together after 30. I envied a lot of my friends as I went through my 20s because they were so way ahead of me, but nowadays I see them either being stagnant or panicking over losing something that I'd consider "convenience" rather than necessities. After all, if you've been struggling, the worst you can lose is your life and limb. If you had a successful career and lost it, you probably don't even know/want/can't downgrade towards waiting tables or working retail. It's made even worse by how much our lives are usually lived through debt.

the problem isn't not having you yourself together in your 20's, its having things fairly ok and being content with that. and when you get to your thirty's, it falls apart at some point and you see it for what it really was.

Hell I started from nothing in my twenties and ended in a much better place in life now in my mid thirties. In your twenties everything is messed up because well that's life. We dont know where we are going, what should we have accomplished by that point...but life is moving too fast! You're working jobs you don't like until you find something that's pretty decent and pays more. I had my existential crisis in my twenties so everything is the opposite on my end but I can empathize. Hope y'all feel better.

I think for our generation the 20s are the like the new “teen years” with more freedom of choice, which makes us confused and lost. For the previous generation, you had a house and a family at 25. You had maybe 4 options of career. Now it’s like 30s are the new 20s. Money also changed its value. We have to explore more in search of a direction. I’m soon to get into my 30s and feel a lot more grounded. 20s was a mess struggling with undiagnosed depression and adhd. Went to study electrical engineering at 20 without having any clue of the work it takes. Still studying for that Bsc, for almost a decade, which takes regularly 4 years. But now at 29 it’s the first time I cope with my problems. Learnt a lot during those lost years. Stabilized after a few setbacks with a long term relationship and friends I met because of those lost years. Learnt to set boundaries for myself and others. Maybe not academic achievements and financial security, but I gained a lot in my 20s. We need to reframe our definitions for success and value in life.

Yes, people don’t understand the time and effort put into accomplishing these things. Some people it’s takes less time but that is only because of their environment most of the time. They are around the right resources or have the right support.

I'm 28 and have been struggling with getting my life together. I just started learning coding a couple months ago and every time I see people talk about where they started learning coding I get discouraged when they say they started in their teens or early 20s. I start feeling like I'm starting too late to learn. I'm glad I watched this video it made me feel more confident about learning now.

Started to learn code at 45 and gave up. Was hard to sit in a chair coding when I worked on my feet my whole life. My wife and I started a Health Care business that has become rather successful. When I think about my coding endeavor it makes me giggle. At 28 your at your prime! You got this bro! Remember, the money you work hard for, try to save as much as possible. That saved us from ruin in 2020. My buddies who financed big houses, cars, boats where all screwed when they lost their jobs. We lived modestly with only our house affordably financed. I was able to take some time to find the next path and had money to invest in whatever endeavor. My foolish friends are now mostly working jobs that would make me want to DIVE OFF A CLIFF...lol...really not funny though...

@@ToroTechie Life is just to be enjoyed, money and career is just to gain the ability to afford the essentials, live more comfortably, and more readily be able to enjoy life. Don't need a ton of money or anything really as long as you enjoy the life you are living and sustain it. Anything extra is just a means to more easily enjoy it. People get too caught up in "what you should do" or competing to be better, but really that is not important unless you are competitive driven and enjoy that anyways. Just my view point, everyone dies anyway. Don't matter if you are extremely rich or have a great job. Just that you enjoyed what you had and appreciated it. Many in such positions are stressed and dreadful because of the pressure and sacrifices to reach and maintain such positions unless they are lucky. Sure they don't worry for money, but everything has it's own problems.
