When you realize this is one of the most important fights in all of Star wars. If Qui Gon Survived he would train Anakin, helped him deal with his emotions with his less dogmatic teachings. If Qui Gon had lived Anakin may have created balance long before he eventually did with less death and destruction in between Truly was a Dual of the fates, the fate of Anakin Skywalker

@@hilmirhrafnhjaltason5032 I dont think so, there are quite a few hints that the prophecy didnt have to end with Anakins fall, main one being that Yoda needs to learn to preserve his life enegery in order for thr hope to continue. It was Anakins fate to bring balance, but how he would go about it could vary. Remember, the death of Qui Gon is what ultimately drove Dooku to the darkside which in turn led to the clone wars that saw Anakin and the repuplic fall.

Maul is so methodical here…almost like a machine. He takes Qui-Gon down, then immediately hones in on his next target. No hesitancy whatsoever. Didn’t pause to catch his breath, or celebrate his victory. Just moved right along to his next objective. Creepy.

@@axelnilsson5124 Depends on how you'd define it. "A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.", Luke met his father in the end. Anakin never did. And it was Anakin who finished off Palpatine in the end. I'm not even going to waste my breath on the new Trilogy. Them bringing back Palpatine and tarnishing the story just because they have the legal right to do so doesn't mean a reasonable person has to agree with it to be honest.

I cant imagine how hard it must have been for Obi wan. That was basically his father who died, in his arms, and instead of some kind and loving words about how Kenobi had been a good padawan or something all he gets is "promise me you'll train the boy", the boy who Qui gon had wanted to replace Obi wan with when Kenovi was still Jinns padawan. And still Kenobi does train the boy, takes care of him and loves him. Imo Kenobi had the worst life of all

It’s in rebels, obj wan kills him, and right before they clash obj wan switches to qui gons stance baiting maul, then when mail goes for the hit to the face that he used on qui gon obi wan was ready and ends him it was beautifully done although I wish they had done a longer fight then ended it with that still it was the perfect ending down to every detail

I still to this day think his choice to kneel and center himself, completely ignoring the negativity across from him until the door opens is the greatest example of what it is to be a Jedi in the entire star wars universe. Every other instance Lucas wrote a cocky line for an otherwise 'space monk' or the Jedi straight kill their opponent. I love his first choice when confronted with a barricade is instantly patience. Qui Gon walked one with the force theres a reason he transcended.

In this scene, one can only appreciate what a fast learner Obi-wan is. He saw the momentary mistake, stemming from never having approached a dualblade lightsaber, that resulted in his MASTER's death and when Maul tries to do the same against him, he already has an extremely effective counter-attack (hitting the hilt) prepared against it, despite never having fought against this sort of weapon.

It's pretty insane how darth maul survived this. Considering Lightsabers cauterize wounds and it probably didn't slice any vital organs, its pretty believable that he would survive. He lived on a junk planet for 10 years slowly going insane, too angry to die.

Obi Wan very nearly joined the dark side in this scene. He was quite right to be upset and angry Maul slayed his master but he let his emotions get the better of him and he acted very aggressive towards Maul. But he managed to calm himself and took down Maul by surprise not hatred.

Nah, Obi wan was in control of himself. He steadies himself and comes out aggressively because its the only course of action he has available. A focused, persistent assault is not inherently evil or touching on the dark side. Obi was playing to kill because he had to. Look at his expression during the fight, it's not the furrowed brow and anger we see with Anakin.

....cuz there's a Jar Jar gag in the time between Jinn gets stabbed and his last words. This video's poster took it out, he can't fool me, lol not sure how he is fooling anyone. It sticks out like a goiter. Biggest failing of this movie was that it did not take the death of one of it's coolest characters the least bit seriously.

@@zeyphrenn What do you mean "barely being touched"? There's plenty of scenes in Clone Wars that are actually quite graphic, that show lightsabers going straight through people's chests or vital body organs. Sabine was hit just to the left side below of her liver and lungs. She would not have instantly died from that, only if she wasn't treated fairly quickly would she have. It took Ahsoka literally less than 5 minutes to get to the tower. She could have easily took a wounded Sabine onboard her ship, drove to the city, and had her treated and saved her life. Qui Gon was hit in the literal centre of his intestines, and laid there for quite a few minutes. And even if he survived a little bit longer, he likely wouldn't have received any medical aid within the timeframe to save his life. Stop acting like lightsabers are inconsistent. They aren't, what's inconsistent is the sequels introducing force healing for Rey as if she could just do it all along, with very small amounts of training.

I have two theories of why Qui-Gon had trusted Anakin to Obi-Wan. First and more obvious, no one would have taken Anakin, he was considered as an outsider, because he didn't corresponding to what they believed as the Chosen One. If he hadn't, Palpatine would, he had already been informed about a boy with extraordinary power in him, therefore he would have presented himself as the one who could take the boy under his supervision. Qui-Gon probably knew that others will seek for Anakin and he wanted him to remain with the Jedi. So only Obi-Wan could make sure that Anakin will be trained as a Jedi. Secondly, Obi-Wan came close to the Dark Side of the Force during his fight with Maul, he let his anger and hatred to arm his hand, until the moment he calmed himself. So the reason Qui-Gon gave Anakin to his apprentice was because he knew that only Anakin could prevent a possible turn of Obi-Wan to the Dark Side. What actually keep Obi-Wan from breaking apart was a purpose, he had to protect Anakin and then he had to protect Anakin's children.

Which is why i love obi wan,his responsibility and his dicipline and his sheer willpower to do what's right is unbelievable strong.even after seeing anakin's turn to the dark side he still chose to protect luke because of his Master's words and look at how successful his hard work has been now. As you see, in ROTJ Obi wan wanted luke to kill Vader because he believed anakin was already gone but luke persist to bring his father back into light and he succeeded in doing so. Obi wan is a legend and a freaking masterpiece George Lucas have created

All of this. And what’s extra sad is that Anakin gave Obi-Wan the purpose and drive he needed, but there was nothing Obi-Wan could have done to be what Anakin needed in return. So he had to live the rest of his days knowing that, in a way, his own salvation came at the cost of his best friend’s fall and all that ensued. No wonder he aged 50 years in 10 - that kind weight would take a hard toll on anyone.

Watching the choreography/shot parallels with this and Maul's death in rebels. They even have Obi-Wan cradle Qui-Gon and Maul's heads the same way as they have a force vision about the chosen one before dying. Chills.

This is the best lightsaber duel of the whole prequel trilogy, imo. The acrobatics feel just right and flow within the fight. I feel like Kenobi and Maul are actually trying to strike fatal blows against each other and not just the incessant baton twirling in the latter 2 prequels movies.

Well the actor playing Maul is a professional Martial Artist and not even really an actor. Casting him as Maul was the best casting choice Lucas made. The difference really shows. Episode II's duel was ok with Dooku, Episode III was as you put it just baton twirling.

I’m coming back to this because of Kenobi, and WOW that fight between Maul and Kenobi is incredible. Obi Wan literally runs through the doors and attacks Maul, into barrages of blows and parries I couldn’t keep track of. It makes the fights feel like an art form, raw and beautiful. Anyways, back to watching Star Wars.

That moment when qui gon dies and the music transitions is such a powerful moment. The song conveys the feeling of tragedy that just happened. This one death changed the course of history in such an inconceivable way. Gob bless john williams and his wonderful score.

theres so many great things about this scene. the Look of dread on Qui Gon's face when he was stabbed. not even being in pain, more just being shocked he was defeated. the scream from Obi wan, the fast parries and blocks from Obi and Maul dueling. its all just so perfect

I love the reflection of Qui-Gon's death in Maul's one (in Rebels), they both had a last breath in the arms of Obi-Wan, their last thoughts were both dedicated to the fate of the chosen one, both destiny remains then on Obi-Wan's duty, but their will is opposed, and you can see it on each position in Obi-Wan's arms. Still, Obi-Wan is in the center of such fates, and it's a heavy responsibility to carry.

what really makes this fight special is that it determined anakin's fate if qui gon had lived he would have trained anakin properly & helped him deal with the loss of the ones he cares about ,and truly teach him how a real jedi should be , the jedi would live in peace and harmony if darth maul won he would have given anakin to the palpatine and anakin would be forced to obey him so that palpatine won't kill his mother ( shmi skywalker ) they would eventually crush the jedi and the sith would win.... but here it's an interesting result , obi wan wasn't ready to teach anakin properly nor be there for anakin when he needed him the most , resulting in anakin being closer to the dark side eventually killing all the jedi for a person he loved but there was still good in anakin and that made him turn on sidious and kill him , no side wins both of them destroyed by anakin because I think both of them didn't use the force the way it was intended to be used , the jedi had served the will of the republic not the will of the force they fought in wars despite saying that they are peacekeepers and the sith are always bending the force to their will so, the force spawned it's chosen one to wipe them all out... in the end luke is the last jedi and he will rebuild the jedi the right way this time.

In the Obi-Wan TV series, the Grand Inquisitor and Reeva get stabbed similarly and they survive. Qui Gon's force ghost probably feels silly now.

Recent lightsaber duels show to us that if Qui Gon had gotten timely intervention he might have survived. Sadly he was left for too long and could only hand the job off to Obi Wan.

Something that I find scary about this sequence: Up to this point Qui Gon was holding his own against Maul. As soon as Obi Wan was trapped, the tables turn, and you can see Qui Gon begin to back away from the now superior and faster opponent. This is a side that Darth Maul had been hiding until both jedi were separated. It's sad and scary to see Qui Gon trying to keep up with Darth Maul's speed.

@@kiritossj1002 I do not suppose their chief ire was against the story of the prequels, but rather the corny lines, some of which, upon greater reflection, seem sensible in the context. Social media was not remotely as potent back then, with Sixdegrees, I think, being the only platform. I also think not too many in the fandom hated on Jake Lloyd; it was the influential commentariat and students at his own school. In my understanding, the Star Wars fandom is nowhere near as steadfastly unified in its opinions, or as much of a tidal immensity, as the Tolkien fandom, but the negative assessments thereof seem to be exaggerated.

I'm only realizing now that when Qui Gon sits down and closes his eyes in this clip, is he gathering himself and meditating for The Force. Strange when he is killed his body doesn't disappear like Obi-Wan and Yoda do when they die.
