Man I was 8 getting into football and to me personally the mid 1980's (1983-1985) NFL is one of my favorite eras due to it being impressionable at that age.

@@BAYAREA-kd1ig Same with me as well. I was also 8. One of my favorite games was also the first game I watched beginning to end and that was Super bowl 18. Despite growing up in Northern California, and watching a lot of televised Raiders games back then, I ended up becoming diehard Steelers fan. The mid 80s was also my favorite era as well. The NBC intros, Enberg and Olsen, what an era!

Young Marcus Allen indeed. I loved watching him, especially those first several years of his NFL career. Hey, what if uh Dan Marino had been selected by the Raiders in the 1983 NFL draft and played for the Raiders instead of the Dolphins in the 1980s? This question is actually being asked by more people than I realized at first. Just wondering what your own thoughts were on the matter. The Raiders seemed to be the one (and only) AFC team in the 1980s that could match up favorably with the monster superteams from the NFC ('83 Redskins, '84 49ers, '85 Bears, '86 Giants). I know Marino had a lot of unfortunate bad press coming out of college and this caused a lot of teams to shy away. But in hindsight I am kinda shocked that the Raiders did not immediately grab him with the 26th pick in the first round 1983 draft when they saw he was still available. If nothing else they could have looked at it like drafting some kind of quarterback "insurance" for Marc Wilson and the rapidly aging Jim Plunkett. I guess though that Al Davis, at the time, must have been fanatically determined that Marc Wilson would quickly develop into a truly great NFL quarterback no matter what . . . . . . . . and that he, Al Davis, could make this happen through sheer force of will alone if necessary. I don't know. Strange. Anyway, let me know what you think about Dan Marino as the quarterback of the Raiders of a young Marcus Allen and that great defense -----and what a Raider team like that ends up accomplishing. Sorry, man. My comments are waaaay too long. Gotta work on that.

This was the first truly incredible offense. A case could be made for the previous year for the 83 Redskins, who.scored more points, but the Dolphins set about every record you could outside of rushing. The difference between what the 84 Dolphins did and the other great offensive teams was in the manner they shattered the record book. It wasn't like the just barely beat the record and added a few more yards. They demolished the record books, and some of the records lasted for decades. There may have been more balanced offenses since this team but The thing that younger people who look back at this team miss, Is how it took over and captured America's attention. Everyone was watching miami dolphin games back then. Nothing like this had ever been seen. The fact that so many records stood up for so long is just a testament to how great this team was offensively. It's a shame They had to go against one of the all time great teams that year. That's super bowl wasn't as big of a blow out as people think it was. Miami was intercepted in the endzone or right by the endzone 2 times. It was a really frustrating game for a Miami fan. If you ask a miami dolphin fan, what is their favorite year, and the vast majority will say 84, and not 72. This year was just a joy to be a Dolphins fan.

Imagine what Miami could have truly achieved with Marino, if they had Marcus Allen running for them and complementing the passing game. Marino was under pressure to throw for 400 yards per game to win. Shula should have followed Bill Walsh's philosophy in balancing a great passing and running game. Great game to watch with these legends. Sadly today's players aren't nowhere near these legends.

It was kind of etched in stone when you think about it. The guy really had showed a lot of progress late in 83' died in a car accident, David Overstreet. Guy had jaguar moves and speed. I was at this game. The crowd was electic. We stopped more plays then the Dolphins Did! I personally haven't seen another game where the crowd was this big as a force. Miami had too many mistakes to take advantage of the home field. 13 took away 7 and gave them 7 and his later pick gave them the short field for 7. A Shula team neve got penalized like this. Drops, penalties field mismanagement... The dam Raiders simply had our number for the better part of around 20 years. They found every way to win games against us. I'm still seeing that pass or whatever it was from the snake get caught in the endzone to end our SB run

1:15:31 Bogus. Bogus. Bogus. BOGUS. What pass interference? This was excellent and successful pass defense by the Raiders. The Miami drive is over right here and they are forced to punt from their own 18. It's the third straight three and out forced on the Dolphins by the Raider defense. The rest of the Dolphin drive after this bad call is bogus. Bogus yards, all of it. In the end, the Raiders ultimately get poetic justice when they make a goal line stand and deny the Dolphins even a single point right as the first half ends. Wow. At this point in the game the Raider defense is really shutting down Dan Marino and the Miami offense unlike anyone else has all season to this point. The Dolphin offense is needing help from the officials to bail them out. This pass interference call, I tell you . . . . . . Hey, wait a minute! What have we got here? Oh, no...… Referee Ben Dreith. Of all people... Look here Ben Dreith, you seem to have forgotten something. Remember, whenever you, Ben Dreith, personally make a big controversial call involving the Raiders - - - - - you, Ben Dreith, are supposed to rule in FAVOR of the Raiders, not AGAINST them. With that team, my opinion, at least 2-3 runs at the rings. Especially if they had drafted Marino.

Al Davis blew it--BLEW IT--three straight off-seasons. Spring/Summer 1983: Didn't draft Dan Marino Spring/Summer 1984: Didn't sign free agent Warren Moon out of CFL Spring/Summer 1985: Didn't sign free agent Bobby Hebert out of USFL Explanation each time? "We're committed to Marc Wilson." 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😱😱😱😱😱😱😱🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Lester Hayes: "My soul, my soul."
