@scottmitchell36415 жыл бұрын
Young Marcus Allen indeed. I loved watching him, especially those first several years of his NFL career. Hey, what if uh Dan Marino had been selected by the Raiders in the 1983 NFL draft and played for the Raiders instead of the Dolphins in the 1980s? This question is actually being asked by more people than I realized at first. Just wondering what your own thoughts were on the matter. The Raiders seemed to be the one (and only) AFC team in the 1980s that could match up favorably with the monster superteams from the NFC ('83 Redskins, '84 49ers, '85 Bears, '86 Giants). I know Marino had a lot of unfortunate bad press coming out of college and this caused a lot of teams to shy away. But in hindsight I am kinda shocked that the Raiders did not immediately grab him with the 26th pick in the first round 1983 draft when they saw he was still available. If nothing else they could have looked at it like drafting some kind of quarterback "insurance" for Marc Wilson and the rapidly aging Jim Plunkett. I guess though that Al Davis, at the time, must have been fanatically determined that Marc Wilson would quickly develop into a truly great NFL quarterback no matter what . . . . . . . . and that he, Al Davis, could make this happen through sheer force of will alone if necessary. I don't know. Strange. Anyway, let me know what you think about Dan Marino as the quarterback of the Raiders of a young Marcus Allen and that great defense -----and what a Raider team like that ends up accomplishing. Sorry, man. My comments are waaaay too long. Gotta work on that.

This was the first truly incredible offense. A case could be made for the previous year for the 83 Redskins, who.scored more points, but the Dolphins set about every record you could outside of rushing. The difference between what the 84 Dolphins did and the other great offensive teams was in the manner they shattered the record book. It wasn't like the just barely beat the record and added a few more yards. They demolished the record books, and some of the records lasted for decades. There may have been more balanced offenses since this team but The thing that younger people who look back at this team miss, Is how it took over and captured America's attention. Everyone was watching miami dolphin games back then. Nothing like this had ever been seen. The fact that so many records stood up for so long is just a testament to how great this team was offensively. It's a shame They had to go against one of the all time great teams that year. That's super bowl wasn't as big of a blow out as people think it was. Miami was intercepted in the endzone or right by the endzone 2 times. It was a really frustrating game for a Miami fan. If you ask a miami dolphin fan, what is their favorite year, and the vast majority will say 84, and not 72. This year was just a joy to be a Dolphins fan.
