Dhal puri is one of the most famous street food in Mauritius, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
Served with chutney, curry or sometimes kheer, dhal puri, also known as dholl pouri are sold almost in every city and village in Mauritius.
This is my personal recipe and is not the exact same as sold or (dhalpuri marchand).I was expecting it to puff up while cooking, but it didn't.If you have any tips, please let me know.
Ingredients are chana dhal, flour salt and oil, tumeric powder and cumin seeds.

@amy benje Another dhal pourri recipe gave 350 ml for 500 g of plain flour and therefore 700 ml for 1 kg? I bake bread and this ratio is the same for my bread maker recipe.

@@Rostone I READ you can’t use the Dhal water with the baking powder! Baking powder with warm water will make it puff or swell but if it has holes it won’t. Your Dhal Puri looks amazing and I like it without the brown spots! That’s me, everyone cooks their own way and I respect that! NO offense to anyone!

@rasivo7881 4 жыл бұрын
The D Man, no sir Doubles is totally different, this is also called Dhalphorie in Trinidad, slight variation in the prep. In the authentic ones the split peas is ground with a mill and adding cloves of garlic with the peas when grinding adds additional flavor. However this is extremely similar!

Though something similar to dhal puri is eaten in India, what we have in Mauritius is very different. Our culture may have influences but like most of the world we have taken things and created our own new thing, in food, language, culture and more. We've had this for so long and it's so unique it doesn't belong to anyone. It's our own.
