I was listening to this masterful performance again last night. And today I learn that maestro Pollini has died. How moving. His talent will live on in the hearts of all music lovers. Thanks for all.

Yes, odd how that happens sometimes. I was reading WB Yeats last night, and when I was done I remarked that I now need to listen to Pollini's rendition of the 5th Concerto tomorrow, and I come here only to find that he has passed. A great interpreter of Beethoven!

My God! I am very, very sad about the news that Maestro Pollini has died. He has been my absolutely favourite pianist since 1960 when he won the Chopin's Piano Competition. I feel exactly like one of my closest person has died. Let Him rest in peace! Farewell Dear Maestro!

Well, not in heaven, but gone from this earth certainly, back to the void from which each of us comes. Beethoven would be one of those artists who would completely dispel any suggestion that there is, or was, an afterlife. Maurizio performs brilliantly here, a work that is worthy of both men's skills.

Wow it's a precious experience to see such young Pollini and Abbado in balck & white!! One of my favorite numbers of music played by my favorite pianist and conductor! You can't deny it's a holiday present for me :)

We were all blessed to have these astonishing and masterful recordings of one of finest pianist of this Generation...an incredible performance( another amazing performance is with GOULD/STOKOWSKY) as a performer he was and still is pure inspiration..Maestro Pollini has transitioned and has left us a treasure of Videos and recordings of this caliber....Abbado just grand( other amazing recording BRAHMS Piano CONCERTO B flat Pollini/Abbado Wiener Phil.

Se puede pedir más....? Ahí están dos los máximos exponentes de la música. El tiempo los bendijo de manera notable. Y para las generaciones actuales sus interpretaciones son referencia, orgullo y amor. El recuerdo de Abbado unido a la fuerza de Pollini siempre estarán con todos aquellos que sienten y aman la música.

Rubinstein actually said, as Pollini himself has said in several interviews: "that boy plays TECNICALLY better than any of us". Which is, already said like that, an huge compliment. But that point (that Word) is of certain importance...

Non sono d’accordo. Lo stacco è un po’ troppo veloce. Suona sempre TROPPO FORTE. I trilli iniziano dalla nota superiore, ORRIBILE! Chopin definiva Beethoven “il fracassone”, e forse non aveva tutti i torti….

It's a tough first moment, and followed by a demanding third, so don't hold his few mistakes against him. Few pianists can understand how to keep up with Beethoven's odd cadences, and Pollini does so brilliantly.
