What a find. Joan's in there pretty deep between those 2 legends, but she gets it done. Mavis Staples has a heart bigger than all outdoors. That call and response she does right from her upbringing in the church.

Oh isn't she just! I recently discovered her via her songs with the original (Motown) Funk Brothers. I've loved Bonnie Raitt & The Staples for 40 years but Joan Osborne's voice just melts me. Listen to her on "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted". 3.5M views. Very very special.

M S Sews to fully appreciate Joanie, go see her in New Orleans, her hometown. She's been around a good thirty years. get her first album, Relish. crazy baby is well and above her best song, I believe - but I've seen her about four times live. she can make anything sound good.

This surely harms my heart!!!! Always loved Mavis Staples!!! But I've LOVED Joan Osbourne and Bonnie Raitt also. Now I know why!!!! WOW!!!! I didn't think Joan is as old or had the experiences that she has (which is purely ignorance on my part; being a musician). But now I KNOW why I have such love and admiration for these ladies!!!! I REALLY do!!!!!

I saw the Staples singers in the 60's at the Fillmore East, of all places. A crowd of stoned hippies wasn't the best audience for gospel but I loved it.
