12-20-2005. Mediots complained about the what if by sitting the 4th, as if Phil would risk injury in a 30 pt blowobut. Kobe quieted them a month later. This is my own recording of this gm.

This performance is even more impressive than 81 IMO. One player outscoring an entire team by himself is crazy enough let alone doing that to a 60-win Finals team.

Right - which made the random bitching about Kobe scoring 81 on a crappy Toronto team even more laughable than it was

Agreed. Have believed this for years as well. That year's Mavs team was one of the best to not win a title in my book.

I remember first getting into b-ball as a kid here. I got to my grandmas house & my uncle and her had this game on. Kobe hit the shot at the end of the 3rd seconds after I walked in. Minutes later I saw the graphic say 62 in 3 quarters & i was in awe. Just weeks later the 81 point game I watched live. Complete highway robbery of MVP

It's crazy that this was his highest point total of that season...for 32 days.

Oh man I watched it Live on TV 2005 before Christmas and it was LAL rebuilding years, one of my all time unheralded Lakers of 2006 were here like Mihm, Sasha, Odom and young Bynum...wow nostalgic hehe.

What's was so impressive beside Kobe outscoring the Mavs is honoring one of the Lakers great Rick Fox number 17 should've been retired.

Chris Mihm was a foul machine. It became sad after a while where he gets three fouls in five minutes and sits down for the rest of the half.

Leaving another comment on this game as it was my twins' were born on this day. The other thing is that Kwame vs Eric Dampier match up was just too awesome.

NPZ do you have the LA broadcast with Stu for the 05 06 home opener against Pheonix. The TNT brpadcast has been around for ages but they are all missing most of the first quarter. I feel like they are the only Kobe highlights I've never seen

The Lakers would have beaten these Mavs in the playoffs, Kobe owned them. The “what could have been” season.

Davo, do you like this gm more thn 81? Count me in with those who got this higher. It's impressive to score 81 even on vomit Raps' D, but we're comparing two opps here.

The problem is, they wouldn't have beaten that Clippers team in the 2nd round...

@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 you sure? they split the season series 2-2 and Kobe dropped 36, 50, 39 and 38 in those 4 games

IMO watching Kobe's entire 20 year career, this was him at his absolute apex and peak as an INDIVIDUAL player. This team with Smush Parker and Kwame Brown in the STARTING LINE-UP. Brian Cook, Luke Walton and Devean George logging significant minutes and Lamar Odom as the #2 guy (as talented and versatile as LO was, he was too inconsistent, unreliable and enigmatic to be any contending teams legit #2 option. He was always best suited as a 3rd wheel) this team had no business winning 45 games and making the playoffs in the even then far superior western conference. Kobe carried and willed them into that playoff where they were a Tim Thomas last seconds game tying 3 (one of the most emotionally painful moments ever watching a game) away from advancing to face a highly beatable Clippers squad. If you would have replaced 09 Kobe (who was obviously still great) with 06 Kobe, That 09 Laker team (IMO the most underrated Laker championship team in franchise history) may have gone down as a top 10 all-time NBA championship team.
