I live in Australia. A huge (wild) flock of these birds, roost in a big tree behind my house at night. At dawn, they take great delight in flying in circles over my neighborhood, all screeching at full volume. I love hearing and watching them.

When we lived in Sydney we wanted to put a solar heater for the pool on the roof and the installers said to stop feeding the cockatoos because they will poke holes in the tubes if the treats stop. So I stopped feeding them about a month before install and they were not happy. They started coming to my kitchen window and pecking holes while looking directly at me as if to say “here is your punishment” then they perched in the tree outside the same window and systematically broke off branches while looking at me doing dishes. I felt so bad and nearly started feeding them again. Yes, I am American so I was doing what all Australians know is a bad idea 😅 these guys can be very destructive. Pool guy said someone had their wood patio set destroyed while they were on holiday because the food was cut off

@@annbow4064 IDK about pigeons & seagulls, but crows are extremely intelligent & can have great interactions with humans. While few bird species speak “Human” as well as, say, African Greys, many can approximate human speech well enough to be understood and made amazing companions. Quakers, Indian Ringnecks, and mynas come quickly to mind. I’ve even heard of sparrows being bonded well enough to humans that they talk. That said, it would be thrilling to have birds like macaws, Amazons, or Cockatoos living in wild flocks where you live, even accepting food and interaction with you. When I visited Guatemala/Mexico, it was slightly disconcerting to have a flock of wild macaws passing overhead saying “Hello”, “Hola”, and more greetings in various languages! It made my day!

Proper bird etiquette 101: If someone offers you a cup of tea, politely tap your toes against it for a good 10-20 seconds, then gently place a toe in the tea to check for correct temperature, if tea is still too hot, continue to tap your toes against the cup. Also, chewing on the rim of the cup never hurts. If a human offers you a cotton swab, it means you have impressed them.

Cockatoos are so weird. I want one. EDIT: Y'all... While I did infact 'want' one, I never had any intention of ever getting one. I dont have enough commitment for a pet rock much less a bird that will definitely outlive my grandchildren. Thank you all for informing me of the perils of bird ownership for the last three years. If anyone is considering homing a bird, please look at all the replies as to why you should be weary. Good day

We had a cockatoo when I was growing up and I miss her so bad watching this video. I want another one, but I know it would outlive me and I fear that nobody would care for it after I die. I couldnt do that to a living being it just scares me to think of what could happen. Instead, Ill just enjoy Max. Thank you for the content even if I am coming onto it late. lol "Get your toes out of the tea" really brings me back.

Hugs, Amythist. Do you know that parrot rescues are always looking for short term or long term fosterers? Especially with a bit of experience. They pay for meds and vet visits. And if you get sick or die, they will immediately take back bird, so you can relax :-) Just check out local rescues, ask vets - especially bird specialist vets, and ask for contacts with rescues. If you are fairly reclusive, they can maybe ring you a couple of times a week, to keep tabs that bird is okay.

@@georgielancaster1356 I wish there were a bird rescue near me. The African Grey who shared my life for more than 20 years recently died. I’m too old to start with a young bird, but a foster situation (and a guaranteed home should I die or become incapacitated) would be wonderful.

I love Max...he's adorable, and silly. My brother has a bird just like Max, his name is Bob. Bob loves when I bring over my three dogs. He loves to play with all three of them from rolling the ball on the floor, and chaseing each other around the house. Nap time is right on schedule at 3 pm in the afternoon. All four of them close there eyes are down on the count. Zzzzzz.

My brother had a pair of these and he got married, the stress of the changes, made the poor birds loose all their feathers. She was home all days & didn’t like the mess they made. They ended plucking themselves almost bald. My brother found a family friend to adopt them,it was a very sad day for him.he tried to make a go of the marriage but once the birds were gone then wife started finding flaws in everything else. Kindness & love will help you get along best in life.

My sister raised Moluccan Cockatoos. I got to know one real well starting when he was baby. I had no idea they were so affectionate and cuddlely. He got upset with my sister and would head directly to me anytime I was around. That was a long time ago but I gained a great respect for those "pink chickens."

I’ve been watching Max and his Dad since they became housemates. It’s wonderful to see the love between them. This is a beautifully cared for bird. Cockatoos need lots of interaction and patience to be happy and this bird is very happy and healthy.

Everytime the father in law took a nap, Freddie (the freeloader) would stand on the barca lounger and waaaaaatch him snore. They said his head was twisting like a snake. Fast forward when he gets back. He's downstairs watching football and falls asleep. He wakes to this horrible noise. It was his bird. . . . Snoring for him.
