Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, SEPULTURA) talks working with his sons & the upcoming GO AHEAD AND DIE tour

Thrash metal legend Max Cavalera was the vocalist, guitarist, and founding member of Sepultura, one of the most influential and successful metal bands of all time. And after leaving Sepultura in 1996, Max started another legendary and influential metal band called Soulfly. Max has also been a part of many other projects throughout his career, and one of his most recent is a band called Go Ahead And Die. Go Ahead And Die is the brainchild of Max's youngest son, Igor Amadeus Cavalera.
In this interview, Max talks about the upcoming U.S. tour with Go Ahead And Die, and what it will be like to watch his son take center stage. He also talks about the writing and production of the band's latest record, Unhealthy Mechanisms. He talks about what might be coming up for Soulfly and Killer Be Killed, and he answers the question of whether he's ever listened to Sepultura music that was made after he left the band.

Great interview, Max is in a great shape, especially since he started working with Arthur Rizk, i love all his projects, especially the last Soulfly album Totem, Go Ahead And Die, Cavalera Conspiracy..

I'm glad they split and I dream of the day Max asks : "Aren't you tired of asking me about Sepultura? It's been, like over 25 years!" I got the last Go Ahead and Die and it's just awesome in my car! Max is the most productive artist in metal that I know of. The last Soulfly is one of my favorites from them and his sons are great artists too. I hope he's considering rerecording Schizophrenia. Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation were awesome. I won't like it when he stops or maybe dies playing on a stage since i've been listening to his music for over 30 years. I couldn't care less about that supposed feud between him, Paulo and Andreas...

I'll just say that Sepultura did absolutely the right thing when they kicked Max out of the band because he wanted his wife to continue to be the band's manager, but the rest of the members didn't. He is talented without a doubt and many Soulfly albums, as well as his other projects, prove this. But it is also obvious that Max and Gloria's penchant for dictatorship and nepotism would have destroyed Sepultura anyway if they had stayed in the band. If Max had stayed in the band, then the next album, after "Roots", would have been a kind of Sepultura version of Soulfly's debut album, only featuring Andreas and Paulo. Then Max and Gloria would have gotten rid of both of them at some point anyway and Sepultura would have completely turned into Soulfly with an ever-changing line-up of musicians and those obligatory endless tributes to Gloria's late son, Dana, which at some point became just ridiculous and awkward.

Hey, thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! Listening to Max, I felt like he just wasn’t curious about it. I think he’s just moved on, and has a ton of his own stuff going on. I would agree that a lot of the Derrick Green era is very solid, and I really think Max would agree if he was to listen to it. I really think any bitterness is gone.
