It was much easier to get away with it back then because of signals being analog also I think the statue of limitation for hijacking a broadcast is around seven years or at least back then it was so in the 90s everyone involved with it could have revealed that they did it and they couldn't be arrested the only thing that probably would have happened is being sued by the two stations they hijacked and while I do wish they would reveal themselves at the same time them keeping the mystery alive for so long is why it's the most famous broadcast hijack of all time

@isolateddirectorofficial Somebody wrote that they think they knew who the person was based on his speech patterns and mannerism. And at that time, there were very few people who knew how to hack into broadcast signals. But I don't think the person was ever officially identified.

Thanks for sharing this! And thanks for giving subtitles! It's a lot funnier when you can understand him. But, I believe, he says "I still see the X" instead of "I stole CBS". Given that he was singing the "Clutch Cargo" theme right before, and "Seeing the X" refers to the last episode of the show. The Wikipedia page on this incident mentions this as well. Regardless, This video is awesome. It's fun to see what people could do back when televisions had such limited technology, that they were child's play to mess around with.

By placing his or her own dish antenna between the transmitter tower, the hacker could have effectively interrupted the original signal. They wouldn’t even have needed expensive equipment, just good timing and positioning.

Your dad actually recorded this when it happened? That's awesome he actually got to witness the event. But was he just trying to record the episode of doctor who or do you think maybe he has a copy of it because he was one of the people involved? There's gotta be a reason he had it hidden for so long and explains why he freaked out when you found it. I'd ask him about it, unless the recording also had the doctor who episode. But if not then I'd definitely ask him.

I think it would be nice if the person(s) responsible should come out. I remember reading that if you are caught within 5 years of doing something like this you will be charged and well, it's been much longer.
