K390 👍 Boiled vinegar bath for a nice patina works wonders. Patina and then a nice oil with Ballistal etc. I'm in the PNW and have no problems.

Rex76 is close on the HRC rating as Maxamet. Someone poked a mule team and got 69.3 hrc. Good stuff 😊

The point of the PM2 is fragile, no matter the steel. This is the only drawback of the PM2. It must be used with particular care. Excellent vid man 🖐😉!

Great blade steels. I have a pm2 in maxamet and a k390 knife on the way. What kind of bugs me is that so many stainless steel knives are sold with a coating but these two carbon kings are not offered with one. Heck, the s45vn pm2 is offered that way.

That has bugged me lately too! I was looking at my house deka in magnacut thinking "this black coating is stupid for this steel...". On one hand I kinda wish Spyderco coated the k390 blades, on the other, I really like natural and forced patinas....

Love the Delica form factor. So slicey, no matter what steel it is in, due to the thin blade, and fits my small hand. Have a few VG-10 that have to be touched up now and then. If dmaging the tip, it just bends. Would love to try the 390 though :)

What would be a very corrosion resistant steel with very high edge retention and a good wear resistance? I would be using it as a hunting knife for deer where I would need the best edge retention along with corrosion resistance as the knife would be getting a lot of blood and other corrosive fluids from the animals in the processing procedure. Thx

@Knifeandkompass77 6 ай бұрын
Probably magnacut or s45vn , m390 may also work , also if your more concerned about corrosion resistance then lc200n, s30v and s35vn are very well rounded for hunting in my opinion Even bucks old 420 steel is great if your on a budget

Perhaps S90V. From a good heat treat company like Spyderco you might get an hrc of ~61 in a stainless steel. The trade off is low toughness. Bone contact could be a problem. The best is probably Magnacut in a good heat treat.

AEBL... Check it out at higher Rockwell hardnessses. Do a little reading on that stuff, it has amazing edge stability and strops back with total ease.

Good video. Never had maxamet. I’d go delica in k390 cause I know I can strop it back. Not so sure about the higher hardness maxamet Also prefer the thinner stock on delica. For everyday stuff I slice, I don’t stab often.

I dont use soap on my k390 and mine looks great (I do strop the sides of the knife with my green paste strop to keep it shiny though) and then put a thin layer of KPI all over it

K390 is tougher and has less edge retention than Maxamet. Long story short 👍🏻 great video. Love k390 so far. Have endela’s,endura’s,police 4’s and 2 para 3 in 10v which is very close to K390.

I personally like touching up my knives, so i would never go beyond something like 154cm in edge retention, and this is the big one, where i live steels like k390, maxemet and magnacut are obscenely expensive , other wise id give one of these steels a try. PS. I can always hand any of my knives in a lesser steel like 14c28n to someone, and it'll be razor sharp

That rust will turn black eventually after cleaning with bartenders keep . Ends up looking pretty good imho . Takes a couple years naturally . I think they look better a little worn in . I’m not an edge retention queen either but I’ve noticed the difference using a better steel . It’s liking having a turbo in a v6 😊

None of spydercos maxamet knives will test 70 hrc. 69 is is like finding a holographic Charizard as a kid most are 67-68. Also, vanadium carbides are harder than tungsten carbides believe it or not!

14c28n is a tough steel, definitely tougher than both maxamet and k390. It won’t hold the edge like them, but it’s the closest to Magnacut steel. Vanadis 8 and K390 are very close steels. K390 is tougher than maxamet. Maxamet is second to Rex 121 in edge retention.
