I would love to play a remake of PO. The story could be tweaked a little, and expanded upon. I would add a hub in the middle of San Hieronimo, so that Snake and the other soldiers could actually feeroam the peninsula while completing main and side quests. I would add a creepy boss fight with Ursula in which the player should be forced to physically attack her to demage her, while she floats around, in a vertical arena, throwing stuff. I would put a countdown that forces the player to finish the story before the end of 1970, otherwise there is a cinematic game over(and after the game over, there would be a new game + with all the previous upgrades to speed up the new run). And then i would add a chapter covering the firsts official foxhound missions, where Snake saves Eva in Hanoi, and then splits from Cypher, escaping in south America. Playing as Foxhoud would allow to add an endless coop missions system similar to PO+.

I assumed Big Boss used the money to help fund the Patriots. My idea for an MPO remake was always to have a large open map that expands each existing map into a large sections of the peninsula. You'd eventually move to capturing bases to accommodate more troops, with a risk of enemy inspections afterwards exposing them and forcing you to head over and help defend the base from the enemy assault. And support troops actually appear on the map. Maybe you're about to infiltrate the hospital, so you head to a nearby ridge where your support unit is stationed to retrieve some supplies. And once you're down there, if they have a sniper among them, they can provide cover like Quiet in MGSV.
@RhenishHelmАй бұрын
I would say the Acid games are even less well remembered than Portable Ops. I don't need remakes of them, but I would like to see Konami port them to Steam. Also, regarding the PO plot, the "Ghost" twist was originally quite silly, but in the context of MGSV, where XOF was cleaning up after Snake during MGS3, it's more plausible that Skull Face captured him before the destruction of Grozny Grad.

2:20 Portable Ops is not canon, it was, keyword *was*. They still showed the Saga canon/timeline (Kojimas own timeline) on Konami's Metal Gear - Hotline which was TWO days ago as of this comments posting. Okamura, the star of the video was heavily involved in Portable Ops and yet it was not added there. I'm not saying Konami won't ever make Metal Gear Solid 7: Metal Gear and eventually add to or throw out Kojimas own timeline, but what I am saying is factually Portable Ops has not been canon for longer than it's ever been canon at this rate. Who knows, maybe one day they'll remake/reimagine it and it will be but it's not yet. It's frustrating to see a lack of research whenever POPS comes up and I say this as someone that has enjoyed their time with it and put 100's of hours into POPS and POPS+.

@@mobiusraptor7 1) Big Boss took a job working for the Colombian Government where he met and recruited Kaz who was working for the Rebels. Prior to meeting him he drifted aimlessly. This is literally in the game. 2) Snake and Miller built their scrappy organization with their own two hands. Miller made it more organized and they got rich/wealthy over the events of PW. They didn't start with a small loan of a billion dollars. That said, at the end of MGS3 Snake still has the real legacy which was hidden in his back pocket which he reveals while listening to Eva's tape (she got a fake of it and Ocelot mentions this after the credits) and this is not mentioned in Portable Ops ever. Off screen MGS4 implies Zero was given this and when Big Boss disagreed with him he wen't his own way. 3) "Finally we can leave that crap in San Hieronymo behind us and break into the mercenary buisness for real." is literally a fourth wall break to disregard that game. It doesn't matter outside of the meta humor but even then it simply implies Snake and Kaz had been elsewhere in the past which is impossible given the timeline like with Cambell, who outside POPS makes no mentions of ever being side by side with Big Boss. 4) FOXHOUND's formation is reffered to in text in MGS3's credits as being in 1971, FOX's formation is offscreen before 3, and even POPS doesn't technically show it either. The original ending cut from POPS did have him found it though, yet the final game shows him with a FOXHOUND patch on his beret a year before it existed. Then again this is the same game that's final ending has an image of Snake with two eyes unless thats meant to be David. Extra point: days ago in a live video demomstration advertising the Snake Eater remake the timeline showed every Kojima MGS title and not Portable Ops or Revengence even though said presenter worked on Portable Ops. It saddens me when people don't know the story or do any research. (Btw I liked POPS)

@@GuyOnAChair I'm not trying to get a "gotcha" moment here. At the end of POPS, Snake says he needs a reason to fight. So yeah, fighting FARC guerillas in Colombia is the closest in proximity. #2 - I was referring to the film Gene had in the ending, not the Legacy. Gene's film had all the data on money and equipment. How did Snake and Miller start from ragtag mercs to have multiple UH-1 Hueys, AAV-7A1s and a landing craft all within the month of November 1974? #3 - I don't know if you can consider 4th wall statements to be canon. If my base of operations was a half-assed Soviet missile base, I'd call that "crap" too. Also, Campbell did say he fought with Big Boss in MG1. #4 - "the final game shows him with a FOXHOUND patch on his beret a year before it existed" Considering the time in POPS can be advanced up to the 1971 (beyond that it says "TIME PARADOX"), then FOXHOUND's formation is right on time.

IMO there is no higher rank match up in the entire series yet we are stuck with that dated encounter.There's a guy here on KZfaq who's remaking the first game as an anime and he really manages quite well to a tense athmosphere worthy of the events. If you watch that and then watch what it actually refers to in the game, you cannot help but wish you got a remake from the ground up.

In response to chapter 5, before or after knocking out an enemy, pause the game and see the closest hiding spots. Drag the character next to the nearest hiding spot, change characters, then call it in using the second character. Multiple soldiers can be dragged next to the same spot and be called in at the same time. About the hiding spots, sometimes it matters if you are indoors or outdoors. I remember at on the 1st level(the prison), if you are on the catwalk there is one hiding spot, but you enter the building 3 steps away that hiding spot disappears and there are others available. Be careful to not leave a body on top of the hiding spot because it becomes unusable so move the body a little. Also, this should be done after the recruitment codec number is unlocked. Unlocking the codec number is finicky. If an enemy is is already in right radius of the hiding character but the codec number isn't unlocked yet, the enemy must be dragged out and then into the radius for the event to trigger and to unlock the number. This game does not properly teach how good the recruitment can be and I think it took a bit of experimentation for me to find this for myself. Out of the 4 guides on Gamefaqs, only katastrophe had this tip. After playing and finishing this game last year, I couldn't find one KZfaq guide or reviewer who knew about this. Honestly, I am laughing a little bit at 9:50 because I know precisely which corner in that building you could have dragged that enemy to, for some reason this information seems to be rare or at least I could barely find it.

The reason there’s no Fulton system is because portable ops came out in 2006 and peace walker came 4 years later so Kojima hadn’t come up with the idea yet.

the MGS series seems to split into two quadrologies. The first Quadrology is all about Big Boss. MGS3: SNAKE EATER MGS: PORTABLE OPS MGS: PEACE WALKER MGSV: GZ / TPP and the second is about Solid Snake MG1 / MG2: SOLID SNAKE METAL GEAR SOLID MGS2: SONS OF LIBERTY MGS4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS Edit: Technically Raiden has his own Duology because he's in most of MGS2 and all of MGRR

I remember having all my soldiers shot and killed. I was depressed after that. I think the best way to fix the recruitment issue isnt a straight soldier extracted screen. What you need is a failure rate. Give multiple options for extraction and corresponding chances of success. 100% Take your time and drag the soldier to the truck. Works every time. The risk of getting caught the old way still exist. 50-75% Drag them to prearranged locations then call for extraction. A soldier needs to infiltrate and extract so its never 100%. In fact it starts at 50% success rate but do things in mission like diable security measure such as cameras and personnel will increase the chances. 30-50% Much like 50-75% youre calling for an extraction and can increase thr success rate with in mission activities. Instead of dragging the soldier anywhere you put them in a box. With this system even the most tedious extraction becomes more of a choice. You really need this soldier? Are you willing to do what needs be done to get him? Would love to settle things with Null again. There was one change i would love to see. I want to see a base like mgs5 and an affected change due an increase presence. Show me something is improving when we get more men

The plan of action to take after Delta's release is simple, but I've only seen people suggest the two extremes. 1. Remaking the entire series in chronological order, which is excessive and would be messy. 2. Jumping straight to Metal Gear Solid... which is too hasty and nostalgia-lusting a move that skips over the 2 more important games in the series that cannot be avoided anymore. Pretend it's 2005, you've finally beaten both Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 on Disc 2 of Subsistence... having played MGS3 throughout the previous year. You understand WHY Big Boss went down that road. The HOW of unwittingly build an army for Zero in Costa Rica only for it to be destroyed by another man wanting revenge on Zero only for him to repurpose an escape-forever-into-anonymity body double plot by Zero to act as a decoy while he builds Outer Heaven... isn't necessary to understand Metal Gear 1 or 2. Delta should be followed by a duology remake of Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2 - written as direct sequel to Snake Eater, with any reference to the events of Peace Walker & The Phantom Pain relegated to collectible data-files and/or cassette tapes hidden throughout both games on all difficulties, which serve to fill in the blanks we hoped MGSV would've originally done. This helps keep the main story flow smoothly from Delta to MG1 to MG2 for newcomers to the series... while not disregarding the events of PW & TPP for veterean fans. Collect all 200% of these collectables and you can then unlock the True Ending to MG1 where instead of fighting just Big Boss... you fight TX-55 that was being piloted by Venom Snake and then have the one-on-one with him. One thing I've love to see in the reworked stories of MG1 & MG2 - is extreme focus on the theme of Choice, i.e. the choices that Big Boss made after MGS3 versus the choices that Solid Snake is making throughout MG1, MG2 and even MGS - a remake of that is what would then follow the duology remake.

I believe Portable Ops is canon, but the issue that Kojima has it in shaky grounds, is because IMO, he saw what he liked and built on top of it, but while making Peace Walker he also didn't feel constrained by it that is why there are some plot holes, but I can believe that is something that some retcons can easily fix, hell even Gene's speech power can be explained as a parasitic power.

Portable Ops is an excellent buffer title between MGS3 and Peace Walker, both in terms of gameplay and story. It’s a nice blend of both, where the leap from 3 to PW without PO can be jarring
@daBIGcheesefriesАй бұрын
Portable Ops is entirely subjective in terms of canon and there’s arguments to be made for and against it. Personally, I don’t think it is because the actual events from the storyline are never mentioned. MGS4 used some imagery in more of an advertisement than a plot point and PW just reused the flashback from Gene’s memory of The Boss being betrayed without his dialogue.

the way you can make easier gather the soldiers is with the system to MGSV, carrying them on you shoulder, which allows you to move faster and use a weapon. As portable ops uses the system of MGS2 and 3, that was designed to hide guards instead of carrying them, well, it sucks.

One thing I would add to these inconsistencies at 22:40 - 23:20, which is not exactly inconsistencies, but I genuinely dislike the Idea of Big Boss had been prophesied, that his sons will save the world. I could rant about it for long, but I try keep it short. It takes away the impact of Solid Snake's struggle with Genes, that he overcomes during the Shadow Moses. This plot point alone, is the ultimate reason of why I'm not considering Portable Ops being canon. If this game is going to be remade to be a 100% canon, remove this prophecy sh!t out of it. Oh, and don't revive Sokolov... Sorry for my imperfect English, since it's not my native language.

Portable Ops, Peace Walker, and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake all suffer from being exclusives to weird platforms that no one played. It would be cool if they remade them all in chronological order, including the first game for the NES.

When it comes to the segmented missions from the original, here's how they could be modernized: instead of always having to go back to the HQ menu to select the next mission, why not take a page out of Capcom's book from Resident Evil 4 remake? Turn the main individual story missions for one area into one giant level that you need to explore to progress to the next area, and have side missions as side objectives that can be completed at your own pace (like the blue medalion side quests). It would certainly help to make the game feel less repeditive and much more dynamic.

As a metal gear fan , my opinion is portable ops is optional story meaning it can be both cannon or non cannon according to player choice

Metal Gear 1 and 2 really ought to be the next remakes. There is so much background information about the series to expand upon there. Plus let’s be honest most Metal gear fans only know the general story of those games rather than have actually played them. It would also flow nicely with the MGS3 remake by being a more straight up stealth game rather than reintroducing the whole recruitment mechanic. We haven’t had a Metal Gear game starring Solid Snake since 2008 so this would be the perfect way to reestablish that character as the poster child of the franchise. Plus I really need to see a 4K Dirty Duck lol
