Arguably it's more difficult to ad lib dialogue under panic than it is to speak dialogue that has been memorized beforehand. Just as long as one doesn't forget it while one is speaking it. I mean stage fright is still stage fright.

@@goddessravenlovelife7452 not social at all. I met him again in 1977 (?) In LA; heard he was in town; called him at his hotel; said my name. He instantly remembered me. He hadn't changed much. A quiet, boring man who, probably, lived for his craft only. Very cold. Swiss ppl aren't sociable, anyway! My brother in-law and nieces/nephews are Swiss. I went to Swiss boarding school. Great ppl, but not sociable.

Very generous of Max Schell to have an audience member dragged onto the stage. Luckily, she didn't have a heart attack! So, acting is outrageous easy! And after 40 years of lessons- what a waste!

I have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rare much like all the other Dick Cavett interviews

Maxamillian Schell is playing an interview game here. He is wrong when he says that everybody can act, he knows he is wrong, yet he plays the game to the bitter end to showcase himself and his opinion, which is the wrong opinion. Note that he fails to direct the woman, because she has no knowledge of how to take direction, and in any case, what he offers is not direction, but a set of rules for her performance. He chooses not an acting exercise, but instead a rehash of the reality of which they are all part. She is asked to pretend that she is meeting Dick Cavett for the first time ( this is exactly what she is doing) She plays the game as best she can, but all she manages is to reiterate what she has been told to say. She is a good participant and a good person, she genuinely tries to uphold the situation. Schell then manipulates the audience ( which no actor or director should ever do) as he tells them " I think you all agree with me, that she is able to act" Of course, they applaud politely and he concludes his little interview game.
