Drugs or no drugs, Phil is one of the coolest guys in rock history. His look, his voice, his playing, his songs........he always epitomized cool to me. Its really a shame we lost him at such a young age.

To me Phil Lynott is more of an Irish legend than Bono.

For a guy who could tear it up on stage he is so soft spoken. R.I.P. Phil.

This man was a real rock star. He wanted all the members to be recognized. So unselfish and humble. I'm just starting to listen to Thin and I'm loving it.

My dad bumped into him in a pub in the early 80's. He told me what a down to earth guy he was. No entourage or nothing just standing at the bar quietly drinking and if anyone wanted an autograph it was no problem.

Phil chatted to me backstage after a Lizzy concert in Bournemouth in November 1977. He must have been exhausted, but he was so warm and friendly and offered me a beer. Wonderful man!

Poor Phil, he looked an absolute shell of his former self just weeks away from death. One of my absolute heroes.

After all the fame and excess he remained humble and quietly spoken. The drugs have clearly taken a toll on him, and he didn't have long God rest him, but he was a decent guy and remains a legend. Thank You Phil for a great soundtrack to my life.

Lynott was the most underrated genius in rock and roll music. Great song writer and poet.

Phil used to come around to my mum's house when she was younger. My grandad was quite a famous singer in Ireland and Phil used to come over so my Grandad could teach him how to write music. This was before Lizzy started. My Nana used to say Phil would be in the front room smoking his "funny smelling cigarettes" haha. It always broke my Grandad's heart, what happened to Phil. He always spoke of him fondly.

Indeed he looks tired and sad, but he was so humble! Rest in peace Phil, you will never be forgotten!

Despite his addictions, even as his untimely demise was just around the corner, the man still oozed charisma.

What a great talent Phil Lynott was.... I think he's one of the greatest front men ever.... He's actually underrated and should be mentioned more in the rock genre.

What a tragic loss to the world. I think he was brilliant... I don't understand why they were not bigger in America. If you watch any of their live performances. They were insanely good live.

Phil Lynott was an amazing musician and person. It's just a crying shame he couldn't defeat his demons.

Never met him. Never saw him perform. Yet I feel like I miss him. Many of his songs and lyrics sound so honest and direct (Got to Give it up and Sun goes down, for instance, make me feel really sad every time I listen to them). It feels like he knew what would happen but was unable to stop killing himself with alcohol and drugs. Very emotional music.

He looks so tired here, so so sad. I cry sometimes when i see him in the end. He had one of the best looks, voices and stagr presence in rock n roll. Great bass player too. Miss him a lot. I heard when he got his first pay packet for thin lizzy, he was ealking down the street and gave a lot of it away to people on the street. He was the best and still missed. Thanks Phil. Peace.

One of the most under appreciated artists of my time. Phil was the songwriter, orchestrator , vocalist, bass player, and band leader. Lizzy was so much more the Boys are back in town. Kickass rock and roll band, but could be as soft and melodic as can be. R.I.P. Phil

Died on January 4, 1986 of heart failure and pneumonia( which probably caused heart failure) after being admitted Christmas day after a drink and drug binge. If you listen to him here he sounds congested. This being December he probably already had pneumonia but it worsened a short time later. Poor guy, so talented and seems really nice, what a shame he didn't see a doctor sooner.

This man and Lizzy were the reason I got into Rock music - had no idea it was rock /metal at the time and it started me on the wonderful journey into music. Absolute tragedy he is no longer with us Brilliant musician and a superstar

Drugs suck. I recently "rediscovered" Thin Lizzy. Loved them when Jailbreak hit the USA and kind of forgot about them. What a talent- wish he was still with us

I grew up in Springfield Missouri and was age 8 in 1976 when Boys Are Back came out. My mom had killer taste in music and took me to see 3 Dog Night when I was 9 ( my dad wouldnt go ) and her friends were all the band members of Ozark Mtn Daredevils whom she grew up with in S.M. so we always had great rock playing in the MG convertible on 8 track or the house stereo. 1976 was a great time to be in your 30s with this type of music culture. Even I in the center of rural Midwest kids my age knew who this band was and all the radios played this nonstop. Loved this song. What we would call: Real Rock. So sorry to learn he passed so soon after this interview and never maybe knew how huge he really was, so humble and down to earth as evident in this video. Aloha Phil Lynott.

You can tell he is struggling with his breathing. A week later he would be found by his mom collapsed and died on January 4th 1986.

He died exactly 20 years before I was born. He died Jan 4 1986 and I was born Jan 4 2006. He is the greatest Irish and all time rockstars. He inspired me to play bass

Sorry, the man was three weeks from multiple organ failure, pneumonia, and eventually death. He was not well. I still get teary eyed watching this clip...I only hope he realized the musical impact he had on a great many of us.

This band influenced so many other bands that people have no clue like Iron Maiden ,Judas Priests and the list goes on and on...... it's incredible!!

I was lucky enough to meet him backstage at the Hammersmith Apollo in '83. Gave me a signed copy of his book of lyrics & poetry (still got it). I think both of us being followers of M/Cr United didn't go amiss? Loved the guy. Huge fan of the band from the early 70's to date. His lyrics compare to anyone - period. Still think his passing was such a sad loss.

Met Phil a few times he was a gentleman gave me his poetry book a song for while I'm away he signed it to me as did Scott. And the 2 Brian's so sad he ended up the way he did heroin took his life his family and took the GREATEST talent ever to come out of Ireland from us his fans 😥

A tragic loss maybe, but it's what you produce with your life that matters. The music Thin Lizzy produced is pure rock, and utterly timeless. A goddam legend!!

Phil lynott was the greatest and thin lizzy are still the greatest rock band. Black rose in my opinion is there best album with the toughest street in town my favourite song. That said every album is awsum and I still play them weekly. Phill you live on in us all still...thankyou for your music...R.I.P
