You have to understand that the responsibility Chan was immediately given over them and took from the beginning has influenced the group dynamic a lot. It’s very interesting. Background is a 19 year old kid was put in charge of picking and training his own group, which itself is very very rare, especially in the big 4 companies. He had years of experience over all of them, and knew how hard being in the system could be better than anyone. 4 of them were still 16 at that time too, with a max of 3 years of experience so he has been a mentor towards them as a professional and a person for so long. It’s a reason why they trust him with everything and he struggles to lean on them. He’s taken on a lot to try to emotionally protect them. You won’t see them often in public where they’re not all in his line of sight, he literally stays to one end or steps back to watch them, and says he gets anxious when he can’t see all of them at once in public. Sounds dramatic but we’ve literally seen him force himself unguarded in an airport mobbing situation because he ordered his security to protect the boys instead of him. It’s intense, but that’s how Chan is. The boys have been pushing him to let go and help carry the burden, so we’ll have to see how it plays out as they all grow up. But somewhere inside of him, there’s still that 20 year old raising a bunch of teenagers that he hasn’t let go of yet.

Chan didn't get defensive because he was upset with Seungmin. He just doesn't have a high opinion of himself for some reason so that prevents him from getting in on the joke. I think that's what Seungmin realized and then he matched his energy better. Something I find very interesting in them all is how well they respond to each other, often without words. More than the banter or anything else - that shows what a strong team they are. We as fans should understand that no one knows what's happening better than them, like you said. All our assumptions are just that and have their limits.

I feel like both Seungmin and Lee Know are the type to be strong minded, so when someone confides in them the way they give advice is really straight forward. Like in a way that they don’t understand why it wasn’t obvious to the other person. I feel like they’re more emotionally distant compared to members like Felix and Changbin, tending to be more logical compared to emotional. It’s not really a negative thing at all, it just means that they’re probably the type of people you need to snap you back to reality, instead of when you need gentler comfort.

I don't think it was Chan not being able to connect with the jokes seungmin makes but it was one of those days he wanted to push the convo into a deeper one, but seungmin kept making jokes so he didnt respond. Chan is one of the members that love seungmin's humour and would purposely provoke him to get seungmin to give him a sarcastic deadpan response. He's constantly floating around seungmin tackling him into hugs while seungmin whines about it but yea I think Chan really wanted to talk to seungmin about something and it wasn't going that direction cuz seungmin didn't expect it. I find quite fascinating that almost every 2kids room that involved seungmin, the members would try to steer their convo into a deeper one because they either want to tell seungmin about how proud of him they are or how he's helped them through something or they just want to confide to him about how they're feeling

My read on these two is basically that Seungmin is Chan's opposite. He is confident in all the ways Chan isn't, and Chan is sensitive in all the ways that Seungmin seems insulated. It feels like that's what contributes to the self-doubt and self-criticism that Chan exhibits a lot. Seungmin is good at diffusing tensions with a joke or a shared experience, but Chan has a lot of sore spots because he's very hard on himself in a lot of ways.

Great observation! What I see going on here is Abstract vs Concrete perspectives. Bang Chan is very focused on what *_could_* be, while Seungmin is more focused on what *_is_* . They've also got two similar outputs. Both of them are the type of person to feel good about themselves only after they made everyone else feel good. So you've got both of them fishing for the same question with no response. It's essentially "How can I help you feel better?" "No! Don't worry about me, how can _I_ help _you_ feel better?" "Nevermind how *_I_* feel, how do *_you_* feel?" "Well *_I'LL_* feel better after *YOU* feel better!" etc. haha

This video got me going back to other Seungmin episodes of 2 kids room and I realized he often brings some unexpected sides out of the members. Hyunjin usually isn't very touchy and cuddly but is with him. Chan isn't usually open like this but is with him. Felix was so playful and animated in their episode, when he is usually more on the quiet, emotional side. I think that's what being honest brings to people around you.

I think Chan can be a bit hard to "read" if you don't know his story. He went through A LOT From being a trainee for idk, 7 years? Not knowing if he'd ever debut, watching his friends either leave or debut before him, leaving him alone. And he was so young And then he was given the opportunity to choose and train his own members, and he was only... 19 or 20? At this time? (correct me if I'm wrong). I think in an older 2kr, Hyunjin said something along the lines of "It's cruel, because it was like a kid leading other kids". He works insanely hard for them (being the main composer/lyricist along with Changbin and Han). He'd sacrifice everything for the kids and he's mentioned it several time, but stray kids saved his life, literally The weird thing about Chan is that, he's both really open and honest with us (through his lives he does every sunday) but also... You can still see the walls he's build up over the years There are few moments we can see Seungmin taking care of him (like, trying to feed Chan when he's cooking or doing something) and Chan LOVES to hug Seungmin ahahah I really admire Chan, everything about him And I wish he'd see himself through Stays eyes, because I know he struggles a lot with self esteem. But stays know, they know he's an incredibly talented and sweet guy who deserves all the love in this world. I wish there will be a day where he understands how amazing he is

When this episode came out, some people misread the comments at the beginning. It helped me realize just how smart and mature the boys are. People always say they want honesty, but many wouldn't be able to handle a friend like Seungmin. Having someone like that in your corner is such a blessing and opportunity to grow that people too serious about themselves can't experience. It's a sign of maturity that Chan accepts Seungmin as he is and shares things with him that he doesn't share with others. (Such an interesting statement of his. And he proves it by being the most open in this episode.) On the other hand, Seungmin is very strong-willed, but he doesn't bulldozer people with it. He does things his own way, but takes others into consideration. As you said, their relationship isn't smooth but it's good and beneficial for both of them.

I think Chan being so closed off and not fully opened up to the kids is due to the fact that he was a trainee for the longest and during that time so many others entered his life and left leaving him behind and he became depressed and sad. He talked about this before and add on to that he lost a member early on their career, he even apologised for not keeping straykids 9 members. So I hope he would let the ither kids help him.

I have a different take about the Mukbang of Tears memory. As much as Chan makes them think what he needs is for them to be indifferent when he cries, I think deep down what he needs is for them to show they care. But just not in a pitying way. I also realized he wants the kids to treat him just like they do with each other, without the honorifics and "let's not bother him with our problems coz he already has so much responsibility" mindset. He likes when they open up to him like a friend. He had said he envies Changbin's position in the group, middle in age, so he's close to everyone. That's what he wants and probably why he sometimes feels lonely even among them. Now that I think about it, he literally wants them to realize this with these subtle comments. 😭 They already tease him a lot as a friend so that's good, now all they need to do is go to him about their worries without holding back and DROP THE HONORIFICS, at least the hyung line can do this lol. Minho already does, sometimes.

I love this episode and you are exactly right. Bang Chan and seungmin have a different bond with each other than with others but it’s good for both of them. Chan loves hugging Seungmin and I feel like Seungmin is the indirect pillar that helps Chan stay focused and open up to others. Chan has been through a lot and I respect him so much. I hope that one day I can be just as amazing as he is 💕

When you think of the pressure Bang Chan has been under its honestly amazing the dude hasn’t had a mental breakdown yet. I saw an interview where Hyunjin spoke about how Bang Chan at 20 had to take the leader role and single handedly push all 8 members to be good enough to debut. I know we all think its incredible that he was allowed to choose the memebers for Stray Kids, but what pressure that must have been for a 20 year old? He was younger than what I.N is now and stayed up until 5am most days and was back in the stuido at 10am… Han said it, I would have been dead.

I agree with Seungmin's humor not hitting Chan the same way as others. His humor is something he says with a straight face that makes you think if he's actually serious about it. Hyunjin gets that not just because they've been roommates for so long but also because they're the same age. ( Afaik age plays a huge part in their culture) Even though Seungmin and Minho's humor are a bit alike, Chan gets Minho's easier since they're close in age and have more of a partner kind of relationship, whilst he sees Seungmin more like a little brother that he has to keep an 'older brother' image from.

Chan is the absolute hardest on himself out of all the members, not only does he have the weight of the world on his shoulders from being the leader (starting from when he was just a 19yr old kid himself), but also from a lack of healthy self-esteem/worth... he's always the first to point out/agree with his own 'faults', rather that's physical (his 'big' nose, his hair starting to thin a little from stress, his muscles not being 'defined enough', his weight, etc), mental (being 'too harsh' with the members during practice, being too 'sensitive', etc), or what have you...when he does his online fan interactions (formally vlives but now through KZfaq where he answers live questions from STAYs and reacts to requested music) he always gravitates to the negative questions and remakes ('Chan you've gained weight', 'Chan you have a big nose', 'Chan just kill yourself', etc) from trolls/antis rather than the more positive ones...the look on his face when someone told him to just kill himself, especially when he's already admitted somewhat to having previous suicidal ideation, was outright heartbreaking!! Seungmin may love to get in his *Chan's old* digs amongst others, but it never comes close to coming from a place of being intentionally hurtful/callous, it's just his 'lil brother' way of poking the members to show how much he cares...If I could wish for anything it would be for Chan to have as much love for himself as he has for all of the members and STAY🤗🫂🫰

Hi max! I’d like to add this to the first conversation about bang Chan and weight loss. He has told us on livestream that he prefers the members telling him when he needs to loose weight because he cannot tell himself if he needs to or not. Unfortunately they go on very strict diets etc and they need to manage their weights well :/ I wish they could eat meals without having to constantly fit the idol image of being thin but unfortunately that’s not the case. Anyway, I guess seungmin just did as he has been told or something along those lines but it’s definitely a sensitive topic for Chan as he has been open about how he dislikes his appearance

I think they both value the other's opinion/approval and because of that react differently to each other. Chan's "yea, I should lose weight" and seungmin's "I want to help but ik he doesn't want me to". They hold each other to high standards and so try to cater to the other and only show their good sides, all the while wishing the other would open up to and share his burdens with him.

Bang Chan reminds me of a young RM. He too had a lot of responsibility. (At 19) and tried to carry it on his own. As a result, he became depressed. Chan is still young (but mature). I think he’ll learn to let the other members support him just as RM has said he realized he needed that to be a better leader. Chan has said that RM is his role model. It would be so cool if they could talk.

stray kids dynamic as brotherhood really interesting and wholesome hence why skz are relatable to a lot of people depending our personalities. also watching their communication skills with members or people in general helps me to improve myself. skz is not perfect but their consideration, love and tolerations toward each other are heart warming. skz went through rock bottom since debut (tho now they on top game) so their bond is different. not only seungmin but other skz member really appreciates, loves and respects bangchan enormously for his leadership and as a brother, no doubt. for fun: not in this ep but seungmin few times mentioned he knew chan loves drumsticks but chan purposely not eating it and gives to other member first bc he wants them to have it, seungmin observed chan little gestures and follows. skz has an amazing support system. i am grateful for that.

wow i learned so much watching your videos. For sure Chan has put up walls during the years which he slowly lets down around the members, but he is still sometimes a mystery, especially cause he also wants to hide things, like his burdens and struggles. I agree with Seungmin being emotionally very smart. He knows how to mold himself to the members, and knows probably more about what Chan could go through, but ofc they dont reveal that and ofc Seungmin as u said, knows where the limit is.

I stongly hope you check out Seungmin and Felix's 2 kids room they have a very cute relationship and you will see a side of felix you probably haven't seen before. Also chan usually does play well with seungmin's jokes, but sometimes chan kind of let's it get to him, he is sometimes sensitive as the members say. But seungmin and lee know are some of chan's favorite people to joke around with, he may have just wanted to be a bit more serious for this 2 kids room

I don't even think Seungmin was joking tbh. He said it like "remember Chan, you said you wanted to lose weight" because Chan is constantly talking about his body and exactly how he wants it. So I think him saying that was like an actual reminder and not meant to be mean or even a joke, Chan is often saying that he wants people to tell him which is hard to wrap my head around but yeah that's what he wants he's very conscious of it and even got super upset when someone told him he looked like he lost weight because at that time he was trying to bulk

Loved this reaction and your take on things as much as I loved reading the comments. I agree with the person who said that Chan was actually trying to steer the conversation towards a deeper talk and Seungmin tries to stay away from that. You can see that happening in many of the two kids rooms with Seungmin. But its also clear that Chan is sensitive about his appearance. He doesn't think too highly of himself. Even his professional skills are lacking far too much in his mind...at least thats what he says. All on all I completely agree that Seungmin is good for Chan. If only for being that person Chan could let out his emotions during the "gukbap of tears". Clearly Seungmin knew him well enough to know to just let him cry. Its never good to swallow those tears down and just be strong all the time.

Interesting you saw some awkwardness and miss communication I didn't see that at all. I don't think chan took offence cause he knows seungmin likes to tease him like that. Chan may be sensitive but he knows seungmin means well.

i feel like chan doesn’t want to relay on the kids that much not because he doesn’t want to show his weaknesses but primarily because he doesn’t want to burden them with other “problems”, the guy was already in the industry as a trainee when he was 13, he knows the pressure and stress their careers entail so the last thing he wants to do is to add other stress. when he goes live he isn’t afraid to voice his weaknesses to thousands of fans (even tho i’m sure he talks about only 10% of his actual problems). i hope he’s able to talk to a therapist every now and then, but considering how mental health is still kind of a taboo in sk, i wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t, unfortunately

I really don't see Chan getting defensive here. I don't know how yo explain it but from watching him over the last 4 years, I just know he didn't get defensive at all. He's sensitive but he doesn't take what the kids say to him as other than a joke (in the context the show us). They've always said the have meetings to address if there's been any sort of issue between them over the years and that's how they know each other and their limits very well. I wish you could watch a little bit more content about Chan so you can comprehend him better bc i really can't explain what I've learnt about him. Always enjoy your videos. Hi Max! As a suggestion, I recommend 2 Kids Room: Bang Chan X Felix edition. Especially considering how long you have been analyzing them now, I think you would find it really interesting to see the two of them talking without the influence of the others. I think that their both being from Australia plays a part in how close they are, and they both show completely different sides when it is just them. Felix is far more calm and less "lovey," while Chan is a bit more open and talkative. I would love to see your take! Also - I only recently discovered your channel, but I really love your videos and enjoy your comments about the boys.Thank you for doing these, stays all around the world really appreciate them!

Sorry if I wrong. As I know, Bang Chan was probably been through depression and had suicidal thoughts (training time). I remember in one of Chan's Rooms, he said "if it weren't Stray kids, maybe I wouldn't be here, maybe I wouldn't even exist on planet earth". It's hard to say if Bang Chan ever suffered from depression, but one thing is for sure, his 7 years as a trainee left a lot of darkness and wounds in his psyche. From an innocent and pure boy full of ambition and hope, he became a senior trainee that other trainees felt afraid of. So that, Skz is like his life, his dream, his family. In order to every members can be shined, he had to go hard and strict on them. i feel that, although Bang Chan is very humble and sweet, he is actually very sensitive and insecure, he wants to hear affirmation about him and Skz. And he might do anything to protect his dream and his family

1:36 wow, hearing a professional recognize that Chan is sensitive makes me feel good about my own observation skills! even tho while as the leader, he tries his best to always be strong, he's still affected by what people say & honestly is pretty sensitive! ppl (on vlive [streams]) have made comments about his nose before, for instance, so he's insecure about it (or so it seems; he talks negatively about it at least) :< which makes me sad as a fan & someone who's had (& still _has!)_ their own personal struggles with body image! I sincerely hope Chan gets reassurance from his members/those around him in regards to his insecurities, but I also try to understand that (unfortunately) a lot of society is affected by negative self talk regarding their own appearance, especially when you're a celebrity (of any sort). sorry for the long comment, just have a lot of thoughts!! oh also, I don't think Seungmin is trying to be genuinely mean here or anything, I think he's just unaware of how his teasing might affect Chan since Chan tends to not rely on the others, wanting to be seen as someone they can rely on instead (as the oldest & leader...)

Sadly if you watch his lives you can tell evidently and clearly Bang Chan doesn't have a good acceptance to his appearance despite him being a truly lovely and beautiful human being, so he's very sensitive to comments about his appearance however he did say that he has a somewhat ideal body type goal and hes glad for the members when they give him feedback since he can't tell himself. Fun fact tho the reason Chan's arms are long as pointed out by Seungmin is that he's double jointed and can stretch them farther so I think it's more of a joke

I think chan and quite honestly all of the members struggle with their relationship with food and body image, which is understandable considering their jobs and what they went through as trainees. It might be even more of a sensitive topic for chan because of how long he trained for and having to be strict with himself from a very young age.

You will be able to see how Bangchan mood affects the group and also how he was upset towards the staff because the members were uncomfortable and felix struggling with the app whereas hyunjin was clueless about the monitor plug . its interesting that someone commented in Korean that "Felix&Chan might act serious with Korean jokes bc culture and language r not used to them". I was so surprised at their dynamic! Seungmin is quite the enigma, but your analysis helped me see how he subtly changed his approach to accommodate his hyung. I didn't pick up on how he was so sharp or considerate until you really broke it down. Seungmin/Lee Know will be another great less flirty pairing, lol. They joke about being a divorced couple, but it's interesting to see them communicate. They aren't super sweet to one another, but obviously have a sense of respect and comfort from being long time colleagues.

im late and only partway through so idk if this is mentioned in the 2 kids room, if its something you talk abt, if its elsewhere in the comments but i remember somewhere chan talking about having been hard on everyone because as their leader in an elimination type game, he wanted to make sure everybody made it through and everybody stayed together. and now that he doesnt need to be That Sort of leader anymore, he wants to make up for it-- dunno if thats the right phrase to use but he at least wants to be close with them all and be seen as a friend and such as well. i think thats why he reacted that way to seungmins comment about being scary in the morning. im sure he recognized the joke/light-heartedness in the statement as its difficult to live so closely with people like that without learning their joking style (and you've seen how perceptive and attentive chan is with the members and really how they all are with each other as a whole) etc etc i saw another comment mention this but it does seem like chan has lower self esteem... theres a clip that comes to mind - someone mentioning how he was on like the top 100 most handsome faces or whatever and at first hes like laughing and just seems to be humble/silly but the longer it goes on it just makes me kind of sad? it stopped feeling that way and started to feel more genuine form him that he just doesnt believe it? i think he does a good job at coming across as humble but it also seems like he struggles with accepting compliments or speaking highly of himself just from what ive seen. id be interested to hear your thoughts as well since im not like a behavioral or communication coach/dont have professional analysis skills with this and dont want to read into things to an unhealthy/unhelpful degree, but sometimes i think trying to really dig into heavier topics related to them is too invasive? i dont know how to phrase it. i think being in the public eye is hard, and its easy for fans to take shit and run with it in a way thats just super harmful and i dont want to become like that. i think i just notice behavior/feelings that mimic/reflect some of my own stuff, but again, as a fan i only see the stuff that they put out into the public and its not my place to jump to conclusions given my own limited understanding. sorry this became a ramble hahaha. ive been kinda binging your skz videos! theyre very nice to listen to and i really enjoy the psychological(?) information you bring to it

I don't know much about stay kids but I've been watching their videos recently. It seems like, and it's not to say the other members don't feel this sometimes but, because he's the oldest and the leader and maybe for other reasons he seems very self-critical so when Seungmin said he was scary as a joke it seems like Bang Chan was aware of that part of him and maybe was trying to work on it so it took him by surprise if Seungmin had said that he was still scary even today. I'm not sure though. I don't see this as miscommunication. More like Seungmin was trying to open up but framed it as a joke.

I have a different theory than you @Maxbeaumont. When Sengmin shifted to talk about a 3rd person in the group like say I.N. or Chanbin, Bang Chan lowered his defenses. I felt the communication of emotions related to each other between Bang Chan and Sengmin was still not synced

The thing with koreans is they always wait for the 'punchline'..they say little at a time building up to the main thing.
