The conclusion points to the 16" being so much more capable, but I think the real conclusion is how capable the 14" is. Let's be real - an M1 air will be sufficient for most. The users that will see an increase in performance of the 16" over the 14" is so very small that the best advice is to put your hands on both and buy what form factor suits your needs - either will handle all you can throw at it. The weight, screen size, portability, and use case is going to outweigh the small performance difference.

Yep, I'm getting the 16" M1 Pro 10/16, but only because I want a 16" screen, and that's the lowest performance M-series they put in that size. There is no way I will ever use the power, and I wouldn't be surprised if the fans never come on for all my use cases. Which, to be fair, is actually pretty sweet. Very much looking forward to this 1st class piece of engineering, well done Apple, it's been a long drought between drinks.

Every system has their limitations. I think before these devices were even released we knew common sense would be that the 16 inch would have better cooling simply due to its larger chassis for more cooling. The 14 inch is still an incredible machine. I originally ordered a maxed out 14 inch and cancelled it and ordered the base model with the thinking that I would return it if it didn't meet my needs. A week later, so far so good. Love these new Macs!

Exactly, I got the 16" and I absolutely love it. my previous laptop was a 2015 MacBook Pro 13" max out. I do mostly photography using Lightroom and photoshop. The bigger screen alone worth the $200 increase. I can tell you right now that after using the 13" for 6 years, I would never go back. Bigger screen more area to work, I don't have to minimize tool bars anymore and when I am not working movies look better on the bigger screen. I can not understand why people keep using the excuse not to get the 16" because is not as portable as the 14" when it is being transport on a backpack.

@@pwerboost It’s more about use in small spaces rather than carrying it, although the weight is also a consideration for budget airlines or carrying it all day. The 16” still requires quite a large bag - it won’t fit in my camera backpack, or small trekking backpack for instance.
@pwerboost
@pwerboost 2 жыл бұрын
@@johngwheeler I don’t know what kind of small spaces you are talking about that 2” more could be a deal factor. Also one pound heavier is it not day and night. I always do my post editing at the hotel anyways so the size of the laptop is irrelevant on a room desk, specially if it saves me time on my work flow. I traveled a lot even to remote locations in South America and I have never being asked to weight back pack so I don’t know what budget airlines you are referring too that do such things even in a small aircraft. I have an Incase backpack which fits a laptop a body camera and 3 lenses which I consider small bag. I can fit it into any upper bin, even the small planes which only two rows of seats and it also fit under the seat if I need it. I just test it and the 16” fits with a little room to spare. Now I am using peak design backpack which also fits the 16” with not problems, I have other photography bag pack at home so I am going to try just for curiosity but other than my sling bag to go which only fits one lens, a body and a tablet I believe the 16” MacBook Pro should have not fitting issues. I won’t denied that the 14” MacBook is easier to carry than 16” and it is ground breaking that for first time ever that smaller MacBook can be spec out exactly as the bigger MacBook but saying that is such a deal breaker to turn down a larger display, better performance, better thermal, noise and battery life for only $200 more because it is 2” bigger and 1.3lbs heavier it makes little sense.

been waiting for this 14" max vs 16" max for days, finally! hey Max are you able to also compare other stuff, like gaming on both 14 and 16 max? curious if the performance gap is similar from ~10% to 30% in gaming scenarios (native, rosetta 2 or cross over/parallels). thumb up for your great work! it's shocked to see that Apple's prioritizes temperature over performance: even using TG pro to force 14" fan to run at max, and there's still plenty of room to hit 100 degrees, they choose to throttle, leaving a lot of untapped potential, what a waste in such a pro machine. if power supply is not bottleneck (as shown in video that he tested battery vs power, throttled the same way), if temperature is not bottleneck ( even in forced max fan speed with plenty room of thermal budget), 14" still throttle. I can think of only one explanation: apple chooses comfort over full-tilt performance (they think machine running quieter and cooler more important than absolute max performance for 14").

That’s likely impossible, just judging by this video. Plus it’s the first time ever that the smaller MacBook has the performance potential from the larger one, this is insane already. I’m guessing that the 24-core GPU 14” vs 16” would be almost the same as there’s a bit less power draw, but nevertheless, I think 99.9% of the time the CPU/GPU won’t be running close to that 100C levels that needs to give away 10% of the perf for cooling.
