On instruction video it says not to have anything within 8”of the vent fan lid. You have boards 1” away. The rain sensor maybe pick up your board and why it closes automatically

Thanks for the feedback. 1 inch away and everything thing worked fine, if the maxxair was so good with instructions they should fix the issue with board on the this fan. 8 inches on van to give up is a lot!

Just saw a video were they tested the issues you said. You need a voltage regulator to keep volts at 12v as well as spray the circuit board with a special type of spray. I will watch it again and post the type of spray. It was a weird name lol. Hope it helps

Also, thank you for sharing. I am at the point where I have torn everything out and fan is my next step. Actually ordered this last evening and decided to cancel and doMORE research. I have an ASTRO and his name is Elroy. We are in beginning stages. Fan air conditioning or both? I would like to eventually live in him.

You need both of you are going to live in there. I would look at the mark2 ac and build some lifepo4 batteries, I have video on how to do.

Now that we are a year after this post would you still not recommend this fan? If not what alternative? I’m scared to cut a hole in my brand new (2 years used) sprinter for something with such flaws especially not knowing anything about electrical solving issues. Would have pro install but still… upkeep would be difficult for someone unknowledgeable. Planning to get am auto windows and wondering if regular low power standing fan would suffice

I would still not recommend this fan but there are few choices for such a design. Are you will to put on a cover? Like this mAXXAIR 00-933066 Original Vent Cover-White) ? If so then have many options, let m know what you decide. I would be interested to see a different setup

I was just looking at this model, and something nobody talks about but I could definitely see happening is a bee/wasp nest being built in there when the rv/van is just sitting for a few months. I'm not seeing any kind of seal when the lid is shut.

You have a good point. As you stated not many including I have not had that issue with bees or wasps. But it can happen.

Same problem on our maxxfan. We tried this fix but issues still persist. I called Airxcel as we only purchased a year ago. Good news....we are getting a new board. Bad news......we may need to wait 4 weeks....groan. Found out we can still run this without the circuit board with no bells and whistles. Gonna run to homer depot and grab a dimmer switch for on/off and maybe fan control.....?

I haven’t tried the dimmer switch but sounds possible, i am not sure Home Depot has a 12 volt dimmer. Also make sure you bullet proof your board when replacing it. I have a follow up video on how to do this.

I have the same model, and in less than a year it is malfunctioning. The circuit board replacements are not cheap. I can’t imagine spending a $100 a year to keep this thing running. I’ve seen some people saying they need to be installed with a voltage regulator and some kind of sealer on the circuit board. But at best the manufacturer is negligent and is shipping out products that have a variety of serious flaws.

Follow up… the manufacturer is honoring the 2 year warranty and sending out the latest circuit board which includes a voltage regulator

@@RANDOMFIX yes, as I understand it from a discussion with a factory Rep, a voltage regulator is now a standard onboard feature on all the new circuit boards. Before I install it I’ll protect from corrosion by spraying it with a circuit board sealer like CRC. Of course being mindful to mask off the connection points. Maxx Air fans have design features that I love, but they have a long way to go before they match the quality and reliability that Dometic has been building into Fantastic Fans for decades. Maybe they will get there if they keep improving.

A simple fix for the remote is to place a few pieces of mirror along the inner edge near the infrared sensor. The remote beam will reflect back to the sensor and allow you much better distance. It works! :)

@@RANDOMFIX Only the size of the lower lip is needed. Depending where the fan is a strip of mirror going around that lip will reflect to the sensor. I did this with TV remotes. Works well even from another room.🙂

There is a DESIGN FLAW in the housing, A 1/4” HOLE right ABOVE touch pad CIRCUIT board ! Hole will allow water or dust to drop right onto the electronic COMPONENTS if water or dirt gets under lid. I found this while trying to diagnose an unrelated issue. I plugged the 1/4” hole. You can find the hole by unscrewing the 2 lid screws and looking at the spot above circuit board. Don’t know why the hole is there. 2). Squeaky nose from motor can be minimized by running fan at higher speeds in both direction for an extended period of time. Bearing are very easy to change. Use good quality skateboard bearing. The fan does not like high voltages, namely lithium batteries at 13.6 v. They will cause that green flashing, beep- beep and freeze. Pull fuse or power and it will reset.

yes. ours has filled with water and fried the whole touch board. its now disconnected and only controlled by the remote. Im actually so so sick of dealing with the company this came from and how much of a constant hassle this fan has been, Iv completely given up and will be buying a new fan. $500 down the drain being now out of its 1 year warranty period. Im an electrician. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT IT IS TRASH

@@MindBodyMuse , I love these Fans, and recommend them . As a precaution, I recommend that everyone plug the 1/4” hole above the circuit board. See my comments herein as to how I plugged my 2 fans.

I would put in a different brand unless max air has a confirmed fix. I’ve heard the unit needs a 12 volt regulator for the power, also the board should be coating with water resistant coating.

I would defintely buy another brand that is fit for purpose if i had a chance to do it again. alot of money to throw down the drain which you will do guaranteed.

I'm stuck on installing two maxx fans or 1 fan and I stall AC unit. I'm worried about the hot summer days. Anybody can help me decide from their experience please. Is two maxxfans good enough to stay cool and comfortable in the van during dry heat or humidity summer days?

I would install 1 fan an ac but what are you going to do power the ac as the power consumption on the ac unit is really high.

I built 280 ah lifepo4 batteries for under $700 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oJZimLNlyZbSlJ8.html And if you really want a good ac unit. There is one that's 12 volt and doesn't need to installed on the roof and the power consumption is really how so you can run for long periods of time. I recommend building at least 2 X 280 batteries as you then run everything. I have 4 in my van it allows me run electric heaters. I can give you the ac info if you need it.

I would look at the 12 volt mark2 with no batteries that runs about $1000 and Build at least a 500+ ah lifepo4 battery storage.

So I have the same one and my only gripe so far is that the batteries don’t last very long on the remote. I’m not exactly sure why they don’t last long.

We installed a buck booster converter on installation before watching any of these videos, along with electrical liquid tape on the board. It’s been beeping, going nuts turning on by itself, opening and closing continuously just driving me nuts. Can’t use our fan… By the way, we’ve only had it installed for about 2 months. This is what we get for buying this “Deluxe” vent… Right…. We have 500w solar and two big lithium batteries. Plenty of power for everything, besides this fan? This fan… Agghh… By the way, ours nipped like that at the beginning, we pulled one of the connectors off the board and plugged it in to the other on the board. Not sure if I put it on the wrong connector after applying liquid electrical tape.

No issues with up and down vent while you drive but there issue with the fan controllers circuit.

I have another issue with the thermostat at present but looking as to how complicated is to reach it for replacement in your other video I think I'll try to get the dealer doing this. My unit was purchased around October 2022, haven't seen condensation where the green bulb sits but I'll keep an eye on it. Hopefully they fixed this design flaw by then. Appalled at quality of such expensive fans. Failed control boards and poor motors. Def would never have bought one for such a huge price if id known it would be a constant problem. Its the one thing in our house truck that is a constant pain in the a**. Just pure cheap quality mass produced trash. 1. High pitch squeals. 2. Failed remote control board set off by cellphones being used in the vicinity, along with every other remote (tv sound bar etc.) 3. Failed button controls. 4. Unbalanced bearing in motor 5. Touch pad failure due a design failure of a hole directly above control board that lets water in. Motor has been out to be pulled apart aprox 5 times in 2 years. almost every part has needed replacing or pulling apart. Im glad im an electrician with the know how to work on this thing, which i have had to do constantly for two years now. I feel for people who buy it and cannot work on these sorts of things themselves. If you buy this rubbish, expect it to be a constant maintenance point, before you replace it with a better quality different brand fan.

Agreed, this fan was really disappointing. I had a few viewers say it my install and I would take responsibility for my errors but this fan sucks!!! The only part of my sprinter I had to troubleshoot!
