Came across this video again, still makes me laugh. Last year when we took our kids to San Diego, I saw quite a few of these Maxxforce engines still chugging along, somehow. All of them were smoking like a coal train and I could her the drivers had to use lower gears and keep the engine shrieking to make it up hills, while a Cummins would just hum along by, dusting it up the hill with no smoke. Maybe California offered companies deals to buy these engines, and maybe gives them money to keep them out of the scrap yards, that's the only reason I can think of for why there's so many and why they're still around.

The maxx-force is a money pit. Unreliable, no power, scam of an engine. Many unfortunate companies have gone bankrupt trying to keep this truck running. Many fleet managers have been escorted out the door by security guards because this truck. This truck is the thing nightmares are made of.

I worked for Safeway and they operated a fleet of prostars half with Cummins and half maxforce I never saw more than 5.6 mpg out of a maxforce and it literally seemed as though they had half the power of the Cummins we operated in Arizona from phoenix and I pulled a lot of 7-8 percent grades the maxforce was a complete embarrassment it got to where you were lucky if it didn't break down because of the emissions control.....absolutely worst combination ever

yes you do shift at lower rpm's...the peak torque curve on these engines are only at 1,450 rpms...if you shift right between 1,000-1,500 then you should be fine with pulling hills. any higher rpms and the engine will cut off the fuel to some of the cylinders when it hits the rev limiter, which in turn will cause this engine to fall flat on its face

I wonder if you could get any reliability from one of these. Delete the EGR, straight pipe the exhaust.

MaxxForce engines should come with their own oil well. Horrible mileage.

730,000 miles and counting on a deleted Maxxforce. Never have power problems even when 80,000lbs which is almost every trip. Would take a cummins or an early one with a cat, but $12,500 for a loaded prostar eagle with 570,000 miles, it wasn't a bad purchase

.2 to .5 a mile a gallon better but about 1/4 of the reliability and 1/10 the power. Cummins all day, or Detroit, or the New A26 they put in them now. If there was a plan b pill for engines, I bet international wishes they would’ve used it

ok i am a mech for a big company and a little less than half of our fleet is the maxxforce 13 and i have to say they suck, they breakdown a lot and seems like all of them suck coolant threw the egr and either burn it or shoot it out the exaust. our volvos and mack are way better, and the best truck we have is a peterbuilt, so far it has over 350k and only comes in the shop for pm's and thats it. maxxforce comes in at least 2 times a week if not more

Instead of spending money on these ridiculous commercials... Navistar International needs to hire competent engineers. They went through the 2003 - 2007 Ford Diesel fiasco... and since 2010 they've been dealing with this MaxxForce nonsense.

Maxxforce is the biggest piece of shit motor ever mass produced. I’d take an ISX over this piece of shit. Every 3-6 months it’s broken down with some sort of catastrophic failure in the dpf system. Every single hose rubs every other hose under the hood so you never know what color your next massive leak will be. The only way to make these motors reliable is to remove all the dpf crap or sell it before it gets over 200k. Otherwise they are trash
