I don't know if your acting criteria is just a pretty face cause Natalie's line delivery in this trailer is as flat as a board. Whenever I watch her acting, I just see the script that was placed in front of her, not the character. Julianne Moore was great though

I would recommend anyone who’s interested in the background of this film to watch the press conference in Cannes this year where the director and the actors talk about this film in detail. They discuss the more uncomfortable aspects of this story but also the choices on the soundtrack and reusing Michel Legrands theme for the 70’s film The Go-Between. Very interesting.

Fun fact: that shit went down in my homestate of WA, outside of Seattle b4 I even went into preschool. It was always so hard 2 get away from in the news coverage, but I know it happens in so many other places. Whenever I hear that any so-called "adult/authority figure" commits this type of crime, I be saying in response, "Did so & so not learn from Maty Kay Letorneau???" 🤦🏾‍♀🤦🏾‍♀🤦🏾‍♀🤦🏾‍♀🤦🏾‍♀

Well, as we see, they made up new characters/names/circumstances (probably to secure themselves from the legal POV) so it's not exactly a ''biopic'' - but looks like it was HEAVILY inspired by that case. I mean, not just story and details but also photos, appearances of the guy resemble real people in real situation

this is the worlds biggest coincidence. I was just going thru a marathon of Dr Katz episodes. Never saw the show until yesterday. They bring up the issue of Mary Kay Letourneau except they didnt refer to her by name, but I remembered the story in the news when it happened. I went digging, remembered her name, went looking for further updates and sure enough, I find a trailer released TODAY for a movie inspired by her story. Either a coincidence or the the internet is not only self-aware, but mildly telepathic. Which is more scary.

I asked a friend who saw it today if it showed any signs of the young man who is still in the relationship with this woman (in the movie) being troubled by it. Or if it showed her as being mentally unstable in any way. My friend said not really. I find that disturbing. Because even if the woman did have to do time for the crime it seems like the message is that a young man can be molested but everything can work out hunky dory in the end. And that is a very troubling message. Boys are being victimized more and more and sadly it's often dismissed because "boys will be boys" and they should be able to handle such a thing. When in reality boys at that age are even more immature than their female counterparts at that age and need to be protected just as much as girls are. No interest in this movie unless the woman is depicted as mental, seriously troubled, and still being ostracized and made a pariah for what she did to a boy. Similarly they need to show him as a not so well-adjusted guy either. Otherwise it sends a really bad message.

Oh my god, no it isnt. Its based on the true story about a female teacher named Mary kay Letourneau who did this exact thing and went to jail for it. Does this look like a movie romantizing it? It looks like a thriller, not a romance film. Youre being stupid.

The story needs to be about victims of any gender getting support and creating a life of meaning. We NEED to make media that supports victims and tells THEM as the complex character. God damn.

I wonder what relationship the title refers to. A May-December relationship isn't just a younger person in a romantic relationship with an older one, it's a specific type of relationship where the younger person (May) is roughly early middle age and the older person (December) is elderly. It originally referred specifically to a thirty or forty-something woman, either an "old maid" or divorcee entering into a relationship with an elderly, usually affluent, man. The marriages were often marriages of convenience, a transactional relationship in which the woman would get access to resources and the older man would get a partner to take care of him in old age. There appear to be two relationships in this trailer, at least. The 36-year-old school teacher who molested a 13-year-old boy whom she later married, and 20 some years later is still married to. And it's strongly implied that there is a romantic attraction between the actress playing the teacher as a younger woman (Natalie Portman) and the now middle-aged former teacher. Which leaves me wondering if there's an actual elderly person involved here, or is "May December" being used to refer to any relationship with a significant age difference? Also, the first half of the trailer obscures the Portman character's face, which makes me wonder if this is something that happens in the movie, or is a stylistic choice on the part of the company that cut the trailer.
