I understand the addiction of being mute. My voice was locked in my mind and for many years, I would stand in front of others and feel invisible. Yes, I felt like they could not see me, even my closest friends.

How did you overcome it?

Oh wow, me too! And I felt justified, even moreso, by my grandfather’s loss of speech after his stroke. As well as, feeling as if I’m being a humble person by being so mute.

It's hard finding a job as a mute. Makes me kinda want to just give up

This woman changed my view on literature during the end of my school days. I went from the edge of failure and not attending lessons to getting a B in the final tests. My teacher loved Maya Angelou and taught her words with all the passion and emotional she could, she believed in the beauty of the words Maya Angelou spoke. She's motivated me to start writing myself and I will be uploading these on my channel. I may not be able to speak words like Maya Angelou but there's an unbelievable sense of fulfilment in expressing yourself in writing. I hope she can rest knowing how many people she has inspired and gave meaning into their lives.

I'm ashamed I didn't recognize her talents while she was alive. How I didn't study her like I do now. How I can memorize her poems after her death but i couldn't do it the many seasons of her life.

Sometimes we have our own seasons of learning. You don't have to be in the same presence of others to learn from others.

Beloved, that means she completed her mission. For she lives within her written work. That is the salvation. Extend yourself grace and introduce her to another. So then they will know what you know, Maya’s voice.

God rest her beautiful soul. Her voice today is helping me re-discover my voice. I was blessed to hear her speak in Odessa, Texas in 2010. She said “I get so mad when Poe’s The Raven is read like it was Shakespeare, it’s not. It’s Poe’s sense of rhythm that makes The Raven more like a rap.” And she recited it and I swear I never thought of it that way! I was blown away by her sense of language and connection with the audience because everyone was laughing and cheering! God bless her soul. ♥️

I love her voice because it has humbleness, wisdom and authority in it. I love this woman and what she represents. What an inspiration of how women should be. Not just African, or African-American women. Women in general. Enriched with morals, grace, intelligence, LIFE.

Wow.. :) I can see actress Kristen Stewart (who starred as Melinda Sordino in the 2004 film *Speak* based on the Laurie Halse Anderson book of the same name) meeting with Maya Angelou, and Maya smiling while Kristen shows her all the references to her in the book Speak - especially the reference to the poster of Maya with two fingers on her cheek. I can also see Kristen listening as Maya recites the poem “Still I Rise” and taking a liking to the poem and the way it sounds - especially the part with “I am the dream and the hope of the slave” the best.

Thank you Maya Angelo. Angelic light I pray for your help this hour- how your mother screwed over those especially that fucked up guy- he deserved it. who screwed up you - I’m impressed. U don’t need to talk To people who u don’t know Or let your voice be heard To stranger who you don’t know About Normal people don’t behave like Robots getting orders from someone Is a bit sad to see older people Don’t give wisdom to younger generations most of them or drug Abusers and showing their grandchildren stupid slave behaviour If you think u doing the right thing Think again human should not Feel like there lock up in a cage Or controlled by someone who Looks just like u why Let someone else control your reality
