The brother of Maya Kowalski, the subject of Netflix’s “Take Care of Maya,” took the stand Friday in the family’s civil trial against Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Kyle Kowalski detailed witnessing his sister’s painful dealings with her chronic syndrome, saying that she was “the worst she ever was” during the time period of their mother’s death.

@@PhoenIXPhantasiesyou do realize that people who kill themselves are scientifically proven to be in actual severe pain and distress because of it? It's not as simple as "just control your emotions." Several studies show that you lose gray matter volume (GMV) when you suffer from depression. This loss is caused by parts of your brain shrinking due to the hormone cortisol impeding the growth of your brain cells. The more serious depression a person suffers, the more GMV they lose. So, no it's not just a simple matter of controlling your emotions. People who suffer from severe emotional distress, like Beata Kowalski, can't just flip a switch. The hospital pushed her there and kept pushing her there by taking away her child. The mother was obviously not okay, but that was in no way her fault. STOP BLAMING THE VICTIMS BECAUSE THEY SUFFER FROM SEVERE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES.

Look up the Justine Pelletier case in Boston. We got her freed…. But it took A LOT of social pressure & the father speaking out although he was put under a gag order by a judge. There was never any consequences for the Boston Children’s Hospital. They got away w/ what they did- But JUSTINE WAS RETURNED HOME. I take that as a win….

I finally decided to watch the documentary. I cried at least 5 times. These kids … Jesus. I’m a mom. At first, I couldn’t think of any reason a loving mother would ultimately do that. But what she did is what brought this nightmare that has been destroying families for years to light. She seemingly sacrificed herself to save her kid and other families. And she’s done that. Because the world now knows what the govt and Big Health are allowed to do.

As an attorney, this is EXACTLY the complaint I have with the “system.” The government has unlimited resources and not only sets the goal lines but makes the rules… and moves the goal lines while anyone accused is held to those “rules.” Ie, agree to a case plan or lose your children… which is basically the same as a guilty plea to the state’s allegations. If you fight, you don’t get to see your children but have to go bankrupt trying to fight an opponent with unlimited resources and power… with judges in their back pockets because they are also employed by the state. See the conflict of interest?!?

Exactly. It's not science anymore. It's fear of the government! Walk into a hospital with pain, it's guilty until proven innocent. My poor daughter was so weak, got down to 84 pounds, from vomiting from a 6mm kidney stone for 10 days without pain relief, I thought I was losing her. 4 ER visits just to keep her hydrated, they refused to admit her, and refused anything for pain.

Medical child kidnapping and "legalized" child trafficking. There's money in it so horrific experiences like this are rampant across the nation with what Maya, Beata and their family has been through. It seems unreal until it happens to you, your patient or your client. It is then a living hellish nightmare as the government is allowed to continue kidnapping children from their families and putting them in foster homes. I have a couple more examples and it is unbelievable. Justine Peltier and Isaiah Rider are two other examples. With Isaiah, they kept him AS AN ADULT so this isn't just children. Sick vulnerable adults are also at risk for medical kidnapping and human trafficking by the very organizations who are saying they are "protecting" them as they in tern horrifically traumatize the patient and hold the family captive. I'm thankful for Maya and her families bravery for coming forward to have their story told and a spotlight on this very real and horrifying reality.

Heartbreaking 💔 hearing the 911 call & as it is played watching Maya, her brother and father relive that moment with soul shattering emotion and tears. I was thinking of his mom in heaven watching her precious family crumble in pain. 💔 You are a warrior Kyle, going to battle for your family, for truth, justice and to right horrible wrongs. God has equipped you for this battle. You were born for just a time as this. When God leads you to it He will get you through it. Faith is light in the darkness. I agree but you missed the most impactful thing. The mom didn’t do what she did because she couldn’t “bare the thoughts” “and bare witness”….she did it because the reason they weren’t letting her daughter go home to the family was because they were keeping Maya away from her mother. So mom removed herself from the equation so that they let her daughter go and dad could take care of her the way she needed. 💔❤️‍🔥 She was going to do whatever she needed to do for her daughter. I really hope the family wins this court case. DCF drops the ball so often, and kids are neglected and killed by their parents. But when a doctor diagnoses a severe disease and the parents try to give their kids the best treatment, they take that child away. Beata thought taking herself out of the picture would bring her child home. Her death was caused by the hospital, but in my eyes, the judge who didn't let her hug her daughter was guilty too. This family has lost their mother in really tragic circumstances and there seems to be a complete lack of compassion for them by the court. It’s so painful to think of the suffering this mom went through. The agony of seeing her little girl suffer for extended periods of time without relief. Add to that, being accused of causing said suffering would be intolerable. She had to be tormented to the brink of insanity and could see no other way out. Shame on the doctors, nurses, and staff responsible for this travesty. The median age for victims of Munchausen by proxy is about 20 months of age and often in infancy. For this to just come out of the blue when Maya was 10, and having that constellation of mysterious and unusual symptoms would not fit the profile. Do no harm, as stated in a doctor’s oath, was totally abandoned here. The damage to the family is irreparable regardless of financial compensation. I pray they will win this lawsuit.

I am respectful but I deeply resent John Hopkins and their team. The looks the lawyers give to responses of people testifying about negativity of nurses etc really show how cut off they are from humanity issues. I have been an RN 35 years. Some nurses are cold. This case is an atrocity to health care. Have these people been stuck in a hospital bed for months? Had a very ill child in hospital and HAD TO ADVOCATE CONSTANTLY FOR THEIR KID? Nurses and doctors are busy. A patient is often just part of doing rounds...teams of residents and uninvolved emotionally to pt and family. If what the lawyers are showing to us is just a little of attitudes Maya got...pay up and shut up. This is A CRIME.

They seem to love putting it all down to mental health issues when they don’t know what to do ! I’ve seen people lose their insurance cover for treatments because hospitals decide the diagnosis is wrong. Even when an eminent specialist made the diagnosis. These people then get blacklisted because they have to keep returning to hospitals after losing the treatments those very hospitals essentially took away.
