After watching Maya's arc this season, I couldn't help but make a video. This was one of the best portrayals of depression I'd seen. Watching my favorite character unravel like that was truly heartbreaking. Here's to a happier season 4 for Ms. Matlin.

Watching Maya grow up throughout degrassi is so hard. She was so happy in next gen and I feel like she felt like Eli when he said he ‘carried death’ with him after he found cam.

Maya's depression began with Cam. They were truly so sweet together. Zaya was so toxic and I didn't like it. He was manipulative, and I am glad they aren't together, but heartbroken about what happened to Maya. She is truly a great character

How was it toxic. No offense I feel bad for Maya but I love her with Zig, he didn’t treat her badly or anything and I hardly find him manipulating. Maybe you’re a bit biased cause you liked Cam and Maya

@@impossibledial Zig acted like an ass to Maya for more than half of season 13. Put her in harms way twice, cheated on her with Zoe, beat up Miles and called Maya his Sloppy seconds. Their relationship had plenty of toxic moments, however Maya was not innocent herself, but with her you equate her behavior to Cam's death.

Zig didnt know cam was going to kill himself. He was young, he was fighting cam for Maya. He said immature things and he said something bad. But he was angry.

@@monke3898 he literally tried to steal cams girl while he was dating tori zig is a ass, and when miles tried to invite zig to the party in degrassi zig denied then miles walked away. Then zig starts unnecessary drama where he calls maya his sloppy seconds

@@swagymicswagger zig is an ass, theres no doubting that. But he was young, and he didnt understand loads of things. I think its odd to say cam died because of him. Cam died because he got triggered, anything could've set him off at that point driving him to hang himself.

@@monke3898 I agree with you but I don’t agree with using the r word in that context it’s offensive . Cam was clearly depressed and anything could’ve pushed him over the edge. Zig didn’t think that Cam would take it literally and actually commit suicide and afterwards he even felt bad about it . Plus Dallas was tough on cam too and the rest of the hockey team . Zig did truly love Maya though and him cheating on her was out of character .

I like kinda hated Maya at first over time I came to love her so much and this is my fav Maya cause I can relate so much I love when shows make things very personal and about real world things not just random over dramatic tv and movie shit

I do believe Zig did do some toxic things in the relationship but he always apologised and that time apart made them grow as people and I'm happy they were confirmed endgame coz I loved them from their very first scene together

Zig was toxic but like what 15/16 year old boy isn’t 💀 even if it’s tv let’s be realistic here, almost every guy on degrassi was toxic and/or had atleast one toxic moment. But his growth throughout the show showed his maturity for sure and that’s why I always loved them more than each of their separate relationships

Suicide is no ones fault but the person who committed it definitely has some problems. Cam should’ve seen someone like a therapist and even in the show Zig blamed himself for what happened to Cam. It wasn’t Zig’s fault, it wasn’t anyone’s fault, Cam just undiagnosed depression that he couldn’t deal with by himself and because it was undiagnosed and no one knew about it his depression kept getting worse.

@@chocoflan22 Cant blame Zig for that. Anything could have set Cam off at that point. Zig just happened to be the one that did it. He had every right to call Cam out especially since Cam punched him out of nowhere and Zig didn't know about his depression hell even Maya didn't know how severe it was.

you don't have to, but I honestly advise you, the characters really grew. you'll get a better perspective of them. also the other seasons were awesome :)

Micaela Patraw I think you should, but you could maybe start with degrassi the next generation cause it could be a bit boring to start with kids of degrassi street or degrassi junior high since that was filmed back in the 80's.

It seemed like Esme really cared about Maya despite her and Zig splitting up later in the series, plus, if it wasn't for Zig and Esme going up to the balcony and witnessed Maya OD'ing, she would've died

For me Esme is an interesting character. The things she does or says is awful and mean sometimes, but she immediate reaction of seeing someone hurt/drying was to help out in anyway she could. Even tho she didn’t like Maya at all, but she still had that reaction of helping. I don’t think she’s a general a terrible person, she’s awful and mean definitely, but not a bad person. ( if you understand what I mean.) and I believe she had an illness that made her act out (bipolar disorder I believe) such made her character more difficult to understand, because she doesn’t know what she does Half the time since she doesn’t take anything to help with that. ( that I could remember at least. ) Still doesn’t really give her the right to be mean all the time, but she can’t really be to blame for all of it. Especially when she’s in her ‘episodes’ ( for example: in the end of season 4 of the Next class. I believe she was in a episode and wasn’t thinking or acting. )

This will sound messed up but I kinda want her to kill her self. I think that since cams death it really never hit her till now, the bus crash, having more people die around her, and all the intense bullying, I want her to be like “now I understand why he did it” because at first she blamed him and said he was stupid for it but now she’s in the same position and I feel like if she did people would get the message that suicide is such a big deal and that someone committing it really hits you hard and can even drive other to do the same as well, and so if she does then it can kind of be a lesson, like you were to late for the person who killed them self (cam) but you can’t stop, you have to keep looking for ways to prevent others especially in the lives of those who were affected
