Well said Chrome. My whole family is against me being in a van. Most are not talking to me because of that decision. They consider it as homeless and want me paying $2500-$3k/month in rent. I only have my mom, my uncle and my two boys talking to me. But your videos are so inspirational.

Don't listen to them. Do what you want to do and the sky is the limit. If they are NOT paying your gas, your food expenses and van repairs, they can go and kick some rocks. You are certainly not homeless, just house less. Living in the van is pretty much like living in a small RV or a teardrop trailer, so what's different about how we go about vanlife? Nothing except adventures!!!!!!!!

I agree. No house, no massive piles of possessions, no DEBT, and no utilities/no constantly increasing property tax/no same ole same ole etc means I go where I want, when I want. I'm currently in Italy enjoying myself while my toyota 4runner gets some upgrades. While dying in the american dream, I couldn't go where I wanted or do what I wanted and there was NO change. Now, everyday is fun and I travel overseas for a break to get the most out of my adventures. I LOVE CHANGE!

I used to take our island paradise for granted, not from vanlife, cause I don’t live in mine, but the beauty that is within a 10 minute drive, but because I see it all the time, I took it for granted but since having had cancer 13 years ago really changed that! The sky is even more blue, the oceans and streams are even more spectacular. I even breath differently. Now all my soul is asking for is a little road trip and fix my van up to do that and camping now. At 63, health issues and just getting older, I need to do this. I know I am not alone. Well said Chrome!

Good luck Bleu. I'm on my 10 month and it's been exciting, challenging, thrilling, at some times scary. Suggestion, don't over buy. My mistake! I have given away, a bunch of stuff I thought I "needed" from U-tubers which were actually a bigger pain in the ass in weight and space than worth it. Plus, 4 big trips to goodwill. Second is, know it takes some time. I've know people that gave up after 3 months. Everyone is different, you will see what works for you. Don't get discouraged. Always be aware of the weather. Where ever you live or going to. You can't win over mother nature. Have a sense of humor, about yourself and things that are thrown at you. Each day is a new beginning. The growth you will have in your self is amazing. Best wishes.

I appreciate your realism and the reinforcement to do for your self everyday. My wife is moving to the Philippines (retiring) and I am not going there for a couple of years till I retire. I am going back to contract work and travel all over USA/Canada in a Van, I thank you for the boost I needed to make this change. I am an avid hiker and if I can hile a week without a shower, eat out of a cup with a spork and enjoy what's over the next hill this will be in your words "Epic" for me.

"Cat", here, Chome! Yes and no on this subject! The wife and I have found that seasonally, we like to establish patterns moving around in basically the same manner in different areas, seasonally! Going from one place to another to another in the same pattern gives us familiarity with what's next until the season changes. Then, we move to another pattern in another area of the world! Works for us?

I am kinda with you on cooking. I tend to do really simple things, in a perfect world, things that can be one pot wonders. I find that I count on the ability to move with everything I need. The only time I appreciate it way much is when I am moving around without the van. I am anxious about doing air travel again since I am used to having my home on my back. Humans do get used to what their norm is. If they like excitement, (Or adrenaline) it takes more and more to get the hit.

Just an FYI for everyone. To make golden brown pancakes. Like restaurants do. Don't put to much oil in the pan. Just wipe the bottom with a paper towel with oil ( olive oil is the best for high heat non stick.) My grandma deep fried my pancakes crunchy half my life. Until I moved away and got into cast iron pans. Nothing makes pancakes like iron. And pancakes season them great. I have one pan just for pancakes and camping. 😊 its worth hauling the extra weight.

When I am in the van I explore areas, go for walks and little hikes, take the kayak out or the Ebike. Take pictures. There is so much to do I never tire of one place as it is always changing. Even when I am working I get up and go for a walk before work and after work to see nature and everything out there.

You nailed it Chrome. OTR truck driver for 20 years. First year was so exciting. New roads, new cities and know, it’s kind of boring.

Chrome Dude. Hey it's time to buy a new frying pan Bro. Nonstick pans are super bad for you when they get scratched because it peels off and you end up eating the Teflon.

8:20 in an emergency, you can always do what we in Sweden call a "Raggardush" or "Greaser Shower", basically just lightly wash yer armpits, face and genitals. A less pleasant one is the "Turkdush" or "Turkish Shower", that's just masking your armpits and genitals with copious amounts of deodorant.

😁 my husband cuts his own hair too. Does a pretty great job too. I just clean up the back every once in awhile. Every time I go get my hair done, he offers to cut my hair. Lol I’m frugal but I think I’ll leave it to the the professionals for my hair. 🙃

While I watch this I'm making pancakes as well! 🙂👍 A box of Hungry Jack pancake mix -- and you might not believe this but I am adding dry potato flakes --- you know from the boxed mashed potatoes you can buy, ... I whipped in an egg and a bit of milk ..... buying them in a little better and then I will have a bit of maple syrup and perhaps a few blueberries on top of my Potato Pancakes .... Hobo Style 🙂❤✌🤟

That’s understandable, even though you have some of the most epic landscapes on the planet there! But maybe if you feel that way more and more, you might consider a long trip to the states where you can also visit deserts, warm sandy ocean beaches, epic lakes and rivers, mountains, tropical paradises, beautiful endless prairies and wide open canyons. Take a year off and tour the states. You have a lot of followers here!

Bought me a mini van to get out and do some more things in life, the mini van will make it easier for me to get around and sleep without worrying about a storm flooding a tent or the wind blowing apart, have to work on getting a few more things. I have taken many bath's in rivers and showers in small waterfalls no stranger to hanging out in nature for a spell
