Slickrock in Moab is one of the most famous mountain bike trails in the world, up there with A-Line in Whistler and Rude Rock in NZ...maybe even more famous actually. As I said before the weather in Squamish had taken a turn for the worse, it was November after all, and with things at work chilling out a bit and some left over holiday to take - it was time to truck on down to Moab.

I like that you capture the line scouting bit. A lot of riders say one should scout lines if it's your first time, yet they never show the scouting and commenting part of their rides. Kudos!

I was on a pretty relaxed schedule so there was no one's day to ruin with about faffing around haha. I way prefer to stop and session parts as it makes the ride a bit more relaxed but some do like to charge on through. Thanks for the kudos!

Is it technically demanding or just physically demanding?

It was the same as the main loop, sticky uphills and flying down! Fun!

I road out from town and did the practice loop twice in August and went through a backpack of water and a bottle of gator aid. It was the afternoon and the heat was intense, there was only one other rider and he only did it once. I wanted to do the whole loop, but with the water mostly gone and having to ride back to town I thought better. Early morning is the best bet, and drive out there, the hill to the top from town is long and steep. I want to return to Moab and do all the trails. Great place!

I know this vid is pretty old now, but anyway. I rode Slickrock around 1997 when I was 15 or so on a Specialized Rockhopper(no suspension, rim brakes). As young whippersnapper it was the hardest trail I had ever rode and I completed all but a small handful of climbs, but any other arm, ass, or leg pain either didn't exist or I have has a sufficient amount of time to forget. Fast forward to 5 years ago I rode it as an adult and it was physically the hardest trail I had ever done again. Full suspension 29er, a life time of experience riding chunk, I had to walk so many of the steeper climbs it was crazy. Broke my chain like 3 times, It was rough. It is a very famous, epic, and unique trail but I would rather be on Whole Enchilada.

Bro you freaking crush the downhill sections. I can only assume that is your forte! The climbing, yeah man you got to be in the low gear before you hit any ups in moab. Anyway amazing ride and damn, crushed the drops!

Raise your hand if you've ridden this trail on a rigid cromoly 26er with toe clips and cantilever brakes✋🙂

It does a number on you hub, but you third gear should be golden for the punch climbs out on the slickrock. Try running flats and getting off you seat on the climbs if you are still out in the area.

Hey Max, maybe! Wouldn't mind heading back for some laps in the Surrey Hills (where I used to ride). Work is a bit tricky this year so we shall see. I should be heading to NZ though in March so that will be awesome.

Hopefully working for a week in Queenstown then heading up to Crankworx. I actually did a summer working in the bikepark there so I'm pretty familiar with Queenstown, looking forward to seeing some friendly faces.

Paul The Punter thats sounds like great fun - Queenstown is always good. If you happen to come past Palmerston North (2hrs north of Wellington) on your way up to Crankworx I would be more than keen to show you around some of the local trails at Arapuke (Facebook: Arapuke Trails) or some of the Wellington trails. The 50to01 guys checked them out last year. Great videos btw- keep them coming🤘

My first ride on Slickrock was in 1999 on a Voodoo Hoodoo Chro-Mo Steel 26" hard tail with maybe 2" of travel up front and V Brakes. Still...had a blast! I'm pretty sure it was all uphill the whole way back in those days...
