walk away but still honor them even after it all - family can die before u do. and ud regret not riding or dying with them after they gone. i come from a family of problems and grudges - ive had to seperate from my siblings for many years and we still do sometimes if needed. every situation is different ofc.... but my point stands as contrast - absolutely agree with removing urself from negative family members and love at a distance if needed yk.

I second that. Live in a van, on a mountain, doing what I love, that brings me meaning... and the longer I spend out here, the happier I become and the more delusional the claim that any of the stuff apparently of importance in current affairs appears... we don't have to spend our lives bothering about what's going on halfway round the world or to countless people who just can't work out that this is a beautiful world and a beautiful life worth living... so, these days, I just have no time for it really, there's too many beautiful views to look at, too many birds to appreciate, too many interesting projects to put together, too many new ideas to realise. 🙂 If only more people would realise that, but, they have to learn it themselves. Protect your own peace of mind and think about what's in front if your eyes. ...If a war comes, for example, these days I just don't care unless I see a tank rolling over the moor here, its just more of some other person's foolishness, it'll always be there so why waste time on it, you can't fix it but you can let it be and do something wonderful yourself.

My wife and I found leaving all the stuff behind freed us of a lot of worry and stress. We stopped feeding the beast. Sold it all and moved to a small coastal town into a small cottage. We’ve never been happier . Initially we were going to put an addition onto this as it’s 800sq feet. Instead we just got rid of more stuff . Small house small town and time with our animals . Nature is my friend; the only complaint I've heard is when I get too close to a mama bird's nest; then I give her the space she needs. Zero drama. I am so happy here. I believe what you have said is true. I was just walking my poor old dog ( she is 14 and has been sick lately ) and thinking to myself at my age of 63, how tired I am of the world around me and at how withdrawn and hateful people are now. I have decided to stay to myself and pro-sue hobbies I enjoy and to worry less about this bitter place. I always make an effort to say hello to people I come across on my walks, but have found that most of them just stare at me and say nothing. Especially the younger folk. I have been turning off the news a lot more, because it started making me feel physically ill to watch anymore. I am now determined to pro-sue that peace you are talking about. I have come to realize that we are all just passing through this place anyway. Especially with the number of people I knew who are now gone. It is up to me to enjoy the time I have left here. 6 years until I’m 62 ready to stop working full time and only work partial week. The peace of having a morning to myself and my wife is pure joy. Working for ungrateful, unorganized and chaotic people is a drain. Thankfully taking a two week vacation on the Oregon coast where we will truly separate from the daily grind. Real peace is found when my will is aligned with God’s. Serving others who truly need the help and appreciate it is a feeling work will never provide.

🎩Hi my wife and I got out of the rat race in 1997. Sold our cottage, gave up our jobs and bought a narrowboat. I then trained as a forrester. But in 2011 got laid off, and haven’t worked since. Due to medical problems. It is a better life and would never change it. Though now we are both carers for aged parents. You can’t beat waking up to bird song and seeing nature at its best.

Bjorn I am the same age as you and had similar 1980s upbringing. My “heart attack” came in the form of breast cancer six years ago. This was followed by a very strong call back to nature, which I answered. Only to find that the nature I found myself in was being exploited beyond belief. They tried to push me out when I stood up to them, but they found a brick wall. It would have been easier to walk away, but leaving the river, the trees and the animals in the care of evil people was not an option. This is where I will make a stand, this is where I will succeed or fall.

Happy to see your two beautiful dogs again! What stole my peace? City life, feeling forced to engage in the continuous and disrespectful oversight on myself and other highly trained and experienced teachers and feeling we had to continuously socialise with people with whom we had little in common. My husband and I escaped 25 years ago, moved back to our rural past and to grow food to sell. Our income went down by two thirds. We hardly noticed. All those years of making money in jobs where we received no respect ( except from the amazing kids!), all so that we could afford to live in the place that was causing us so much stress- what a waste! What a drain on our mental and physical health it was too. My husband is now 82, today he is scythe mowing our hay field. If your life is not satisfactory to you, change it now!No excuses are valid. You only get a few decades, don't waste them.

Earlier this year I decided to quit my job as an industrial maintenance technician and begin working the small farm I was privileged to inherit from my parents, it was the best thing I have ever done, no more pressure and stress of the sort I had to deal with on a daily basis, there is stress and pressure but it's different, working with livestock has it's stressful times but it's more fulfilling and rewarding, more real. I often just stand in the middle of my farm and observe nature and my stock and I think of the generations that have worked this land and walked these fields before my time, there's a real feeling of deep connection to my forefathers and it brings a lot of peace and contentment, and now I also have the time to indulge my other passion which is working on the classic cars I've acquired over the years.

I can work as much as I want from my home in a quiet area next to woods and farmland on the edge of a large town, the loudest sounds mostly are birdsong. Nothing phases me, I don't get stress or anxiety. *Most problems are inside your head, and how you see and react to what's around you, and sometimes changing the environment isn't the cure.
