I've been binge watching Morris Dance performances for several hours and these ladies are the best thing I've seen. The dancing, choreography, music and outfits are top class. This must have required some serious rehearsing. Only sorry I'm 11 years late.

The music actually could also be heard in northern Germany, too. We all are one, brexit or not! Thanks for sharing!

This is such an addictive video. I have watched it countless times and am constantly amazed at the tremendous precision, footwork, timing and smoothness of the dancers and the ending is fantastic! Incredibly well done all of you that took part. I'm going to watch it again in case I missed something. ROD UK.

Hello from America -- I just came across this video and am thoroughly impressed with the combination of precision and skill of the performers and the beautiful music accompanying their dance. I don't I'd ever heard of "Morris Dancing" before this. I've watched it about a dozen times and am recommending to my friends. Amazing!

Brilliant, love it. Is this where the expression, 'tie the knot', comes from? No one really knows exactly. But... 'In the seventeenth century, one or two of the bride-favours were always blue. These were knots of coloured ribbons loosely stitched on to the wedding gown, which were plucked off by the guests at the wedding feast, and worn as luck-bringers in the young men's hats.' 'In and Out the Windows' is also known as: Early In The Morning, Geordie’s Penker, Go In And Out Of The Windows, Go In And Out The Window, Go Round And Round The Valley, Goin’ In And Out The Window, Going In And Out The Window, In And Out The Window, Maid Of The Mountain, Maid Of The Mountain Glen, Mary From The Mountain Glen, Mary Of The Mountain Glen, My Mother Said I Never Should Play With The Gypsies In The Wood, Wee Johnny’s Lost His Marble.

How refreshing! When one sees what passes for "dancing" in many places today (e.g., the U.S.), it's lovely to see innocent folk dancing.
@bigron88967 жыл бұрын
Traditionally this is frequently done in blackface and drunk, sometimes with a male dressed as a female. A lot of the songs are quite vulgar, I have a bunch of the sheet music lying about somewhere. Might check out square dancing if you like this sort of thing and are in the US though.

Half-way through, about 2.00 the tune changes. As a boy I first knew this as In and Out the Windows, and then as a vulgar song about "Mary of the Mountain Glen" and her mishap with Stephen's Ink. Details on request! What is the tune at 2.43 please?

den o Yes, Den - further details on my email address - ildonaldson(at) gmail(dot)com

The song from 2:43 onwards is the Jenny Lind Polka, composed from the German(!) Anton Wallerstein in 1843 or 45 and spread from Hannover all over the world.
