are those smaller bugs flying around midges? or are those mayflies?

what makes the dry fly stay on the surface?

I didn't see any tactics except you missed the first fish coz you pulled too fast after that the reason you hooked anything was because the distance involved allowed a lag of time which let the fish to turn down.

That fish stayed out of the water from 4:08 to 4:48. Ouch...
