i really love that g in 5:44 the whole band is playing quite low, Sandoval is playing low as well and then just out of nowhere comes a lonely g above high c. It just makes me chuckle every time i listen to this:D

I transcribed that exact line about two years ago and it has impacted my improvising probably more than anything I’ve ever transcribed. I’m pretty sure my fingers have played it through every day since 😂

I love Arturo the Master. His horn is always warm with: - Lot of humor - Brightness - Agony that he got over, and - Respects to anyone. He is sending me tons of force and energy.

As someone who has transcribed a lot of Arturo’s solos, I think the line is actually pretty genius because he plays pretty far outside the changes and then resolves it back to the blues at the end. Not to mention that the notes aren’t sloppy but are actually clear and easy to understand. Just my two cents 👍🏻

0:18 you can see the bones laughing in the band when they realize wayne forgot to remove his harmon mute. props to wayne for not missing a beat after the first note came out too soft. he almost instantly adjusted and just removed the mute after the lick. i probably would have frozen up when the wrong sound came out lol

Two masters of their craft! I loved the contrasts and interplay. Any trumpet player knows (or should know) how difficult it is to play at this level night after night. Bravo!

@@stirdy4stirdy that's one of my favourite pieces and you bet I've watched that. I think the soloist came in quite late and so Arturo got mad. But that's the only other case of him being "not nice". I follow him on his social media, seems like a very nice guy.

I came here after I learnt that Bergeron was diagnosed with throat cancer. He apparently is doing well and I hope he makes a full and healthy recovery. Tom Kubis made a song for Wayne's recovery: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pr5ze66Fx7uqhaM.html

5:44 , there is a big balance problem , that trumpet hit. The lead trumpet, Rashawn Ross didn't take that G up an octave in the rehearsal. When he took it up an octave here, none of the other trumpets were audible so it sounded like the lead trumpet played a hit in the wrong place. But, other than that, he hit it dead on with a good sound and solid attack.

Eh I dont think its that big a problem. Throughout the whole thing when Rashawn takes it up, you cant hear the other trumpets very well. And even if that was a decision made on the fly that impacted the performance a good deal, so what? We have this kind of thing happen all the time, and the lead trumpet is supposed to stand out

skills, when you start it's easier to pull it out a bit, but he reached a point where he doesn't need that to control his sound

Some comments are full of frustration and envy, they don't even understand the language of Be-Bop, it goes over their heads, and they only manage to criticize without any basis, what a pity it gives me with those frustrated.
