The entire gear case was replaced just after posting this video. Since then the problem has gone away but the machine is still one of the loudest washing machines we have ever owned.

Was this happening at the end of the rinse / drain cycle? We have this exact washer and just started to do this? The gear case is it a do it yourself thing or had someone repair it?

It is the gear case. They all have this same issue 5 years in. Whirpool makes them and all thier gearcases leak oil and then start seazing up. Throw it away and buy a speedqueen. Youll thank me later.

@@sensusfidelium9510yes the cubic feet in the speed queen is too small, and initial price is too high.

Mine makes an awful noise. I typed on its back and tightened the nut rat hold the pully to tye bottom of the tub. Fixed.

That sounds like you have the pulley scrapping against the cover on bottom. Little different than this. This is a gear case issue

Same problem, bought just 6 months ago. Makes noise at end of spin cycle. Will it do more damage if we just keep using it?

Since they replaced the entire transmission still noisy but been a long time no grinding noise.

Very common for these trash Maytag/Whirlpools to break transmission gear cases. Super high profit junk that looks pretty.

Had it for 2 weeks, notice oil leak, came out and replace compassitor, now it's making this loud grinding noise, so very disappointed, will be putting in another claim.

Indeed. The whole gear case needs to changed. But not worth the money. Guy needs to buy a speed queen.

Sounds like the clutch slider is wearing out

I think whirpool actually calls it a splutch technically. But the gear case leaking oil would be the main cause. Making the splutch work harder and go out.

@@robertcollins8968 ours was doing same thing. and i replaced shifter, belt, clutch kit and still does it.

@@robertcollins8968 yes sir! It does it 2 times during a cycle. And its right as it starts spin cycle and then at the very end of the wash.

@@StashMan-lr2dw did you change the clutch ? , how about take out the wash plate/agitator. Put shoe lace under and pull up. If stuck pour boiling water in 1 gallon then pull up with shoe lace. Might be transmission

There worst machines ever....loud when filling with water, made of cheap light metal and so can't stand the weight of the lightest load which causes it to bang about....real crap, real shame. I'm embarrassed to own

We have a gaytag top loader too, its sitting in our garage disconnected because it doesn't spin.
