Let me add my thanks as well (and subscription! :)) This happened while I was away and I didn't relish coming back to working on my 2012 Mazda 3. I pulled the air filter last night, and that didn't help... was thinking it might be the fuel filter, but came across this video this morning and I knew as soon I saw you start the cut and heard it cut out the same way that this was probably the problem and solution. Thanks again!

Very helpful. My 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv had the same problem, and changing the MAF sensor cured the issue.

Sweet. Applies to many cars, since they mostly run same sensors, so troubleshooting steps are same/similar. Keep it running and enjoy the car!

Did not think it would be the mass airflow sensor for me. But it was! Surprised a faulty sensor kills the car like that.

@ashmandom9793 If the car can't measure how much air is coming it, it can't figure out how much fuel to add for combustion, so it shuts down.
