I own a Mazda 626 Sedan in Prestige Silver colour, 1990 model ... bought brand new in Melbourne, Australia as a gift from my father for my 18th birthday. He paid $ 32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! It's now 32 years old, has done 500,000 kilometres and l continue to drive it daily. Has never failed me. Unbelievable car. I cannot part with it. My first and so far, only car ...!! People cant believe it.
@andrewstones29214 ай бұрын
The 626 from that era was an amazing car, I have no idea if modern Mazda are as well made or not, I suspect that they are not because consumers today have no desire for the car to last that long, they would rather “recycle” the car after 10 years or so.

I can believe you, I have Mazda 323 2000 model, and yes it never left me on the road. Despite being a cheap and low-end car with a small engine, this car was and is extremely fun to drive in mountain turns with a balanced power-to-weight body. Japanese knows how to make good and reliable stuff.

I own a 2009 CX-9 Grand touring since brand new, now 133K miles. Two minor repairs over the past 12 years: (1) driver side door motor - replaced gear myself; (2) rear structs leaking oil - replaced by auto shop. Interior and exterior hold up very well. The car still runs like new. In contrast my wife's 2008 Acura TL developed couple of more serious mechanical and electronic issues way before 100K miles. The "leather" seats started to crack few years ago. Its interior looks like a 30 years old car. Mazda really put in quality stuff.

Cool to see. I work in a Honda plant. Even though the processes are slightly varied, I know what's happening every step of the way. (Love my Mazda car btw 😄)
@peacefrog0521 Жыл бұрын
I worked in Marysville decades ago, left in 1998. But I took the Mazda factory tour in 2015 when I was on a trip to Hiroshima. The biggest difference I noticed was the flexible manufacturing at Mazda. At Honda, they build basically the same model in a plant, in lots of 60 - for example, 60 Accord EX sedans in the same color, same feature packages, all in a row. (I assume it’s pretty much the same today.) They added some model flexibility when they started building Acura models. At Mazda, I saw an MX-5, then a CX-9, then another model, one after the other. Seems less efficient on paper but then they don’t need the excess manufacturing capacity to build 3 models. Look at 22:22 and you’ll see what I mean. Different models and colors, one by one. You’ll never see Honda do that. P..S - I bought a used Accord EX V6 on my last day of work at Honda. It was a manager vehicle, with 60k, and was better than my other car was even when new. And almost 25 years later, I still miss being at Honda. Working there was the fulfillment of a dream to work at a Japanese transplant. While I went on to make more money elsewhere in automotive, part of me regrets leaving there.

14 years ago, my wife traded her Miata (loved it but needed more room) for a Mazda SIX. We take care of it like it’s a Rolls Royce. It’s still shiny, it’s has had only two minor repairs and it still runs great. its a classic. We are retired and need only one vehicle so I sold my 11 year old Yukon also an excellent vehicle and we are trading the Mazda SIX for a Mazda CX-5. I will say, the new Mazda SIX signature is very impressive too!

I'm a big fan of Japanese cars. They are excellently built. My Toyota Yaris was solid for many years, my rental was a Mazda CX-5 and I immediately fell in love with the interior design, the calm power and the well-thought-through dashboard. There is a lot of emotion going on when you drive a car like that. Now I drive a Honda Jazz/Fit and that one is fantastic too. REI!

In manufacturing/assembly, it is astronomically difficult to get product out that is near 99% right first time at this sort of speed in any case. My 2019 Mazda3 is 2.5 years old and not one thing is out of place, everything is solid just as it left the factory. When you consider the number of elements there are to developing a car (R&D, design, engine development, trials, on-the-road testing, software/technology incorporation, component layout, structural design, interior design and fittings, press tools, external suppliers, servicing and wear and tear considerations, and most importantly "can it be made?..." The list goes on,) it's astonishing how easily we take it for granted. I fully respect the people who all played a part in developing the 3 (and any other Mazda) and the operators/technicians that put them together daily with great consistency, as they couldn't have made it any better.

True! My 2020 Honda Civic was built in Canada, and 6,700 miles later, it is a freaking rattle box and the seats already squeak like an old car with ten times the mileage. I have even been in a 2019 Kia Forte with 12,300 miles and not a single rattle and the seats do not make any sound. A shame since the Honda's I have been around in the past had near perfect fit and finish, even the freaking 8th gens Civics aside from the paint quality of course. Mazda on the other hand seemed to have improved even faster than Hyundai since they have been separate from Ford since 2013.
