@@pranjalabani6462 It's not the same, as Kelley's response also points out. They've also explained the various options on how to get to 16 years. But there may be other programs to target where 3-year degrees are not a problem. We have another video where we specifically cover this topic in a fair amount of detail. Have you seen it?

The backup plan for many failed entrepreneurs to take up corporate jobs. Some use that opportunity to learn how established companies work, and use those lessons to try their hand at entrepreneurship again. Others find that corporate work gives them all that they were expecting, so they continue. We've covered the top MBA programs for entrepreneurship in the video. Here's a list of the MS programs: www.mbacrystalball.com/masters-degree/entrepreneurship/ How much work experience do you have?

@MBACrystalBall

MS programs in general have a younger bunch of students with under 2 years of experience at the start of the program. Since you've crossed that threshold, and it would be at least a year more before you get into a program (assuming you apply in this application season), an MBA may fit better.

Before assuming that an MBA is the only way forward, and worrying about the specialisation, spend some time on trying to figure out where you want to take your career. If you can get there by simply joining a new company, it'll save you a lot of time and money.

Sorry to hear about the challenges life has thrown at you. It's never to late to start, especially if you have the will to change the situation. Just be careful that you don't exhaust your money on a big degree that doesn't guarantee anything. Start off with smaller steps. For instance, take a short course to build some new skills. And put that into practice. That'll also give you an idea of what you like and what you don't without making a big investment.

Seafarers who've worked with us have gone on to take up a diverse mix of roles from operations to technology management to investment banking. Dear MBA Crystall Ball, I follow your LinkedIn post and must say they have made a great impact on me. Now I am writing to you to get an advice. To begin with I am a hotelier who studied Hotel Management from IHM Kolkata and graduated in 2012. From then I have worked only in hotels, primarily in the Middle East for the past 8 years. I take care of Front Office and guest experience, reservation etc, not a chef or into food and beverage. I wish to do an MBA by writing the GMAT however my concern is that even if I get in a good BSchool, will my profile fall short during the placements compared to other from Engineering backgroud or other fields? I do not wish to do any distance MBA or from any average school where there is no need for any exam, I wish to write the GMAT and considering to quit my job because of this. However at the same time I am also at a crucial stage in my career where I am one promotion away from being a department head. So will it be wise for me to quit my job and do a 1 year MBA? Thank you, Navonil Das.

Bring jumping into the answers, a few quick questions. - Why do you want to go for an MBA? Do you have a specific career goal in mind that requires an MBA? - Are you aware of peers with a similar professional background and similar goals who've actually gone through the MBA route?

Currently with my experience as a hotelier, I am stuck in hotels only and I am unable to change fields like moving into consulting etc. More importantly, I want to do an MBA not just for a better job but also for gaining knowledge about business, which can widen my though process and make me able to work in more broader fields. Working in hotels, I will get the in hand job experience of a hotel but even though I may got higher positions, I will not be having the right updated knowledge of business that any leader might have or is supposed to have.

Let's consider consulting, since that's the only specific career you've mentioned. Management consulting firms hiring for such roles typically look for two things - broad-based industry / function knowledge and sharp analytical/problem solving skills. It gets tougher to get into the field when the pre-MBA experience is high and in a niche space (such as yours). So it may become an uphill battle competing with other (younger) MBA grads. Does that sound like a logical and objective perspective? If so, what would your backup plan be, in terms of extracting the RoI? Getting an MBA after 30 isn't impractical, but there needs to be a greater amount of planning and introspection. So trying to get you to think more. Are you looking at Indian 1-year MBA programs, or international?
