About this video: On my channel, I post monthly videos compiled of clips of MBTA commuter trains on the Newburyport/Rockport Line, the eastern most commuter rail line on the north side of MBTA’s system. The line runs from Boston’s North Station to Beverly, where it then splits and continues on to both Newburyport and Rockport. In the January 2024 edition, clips that appear were filmed in the following towns: Beverly, Manchester, Hamilton, and Ipswich, Massachusetts.

It’s official, 1127 and 1136 (MassDOT engine) are the last two GP40MCs in service without e-bells.

1138 South with Cab Car 1829 as of May 7th in revenue service. I guess the GP40MCs returning to the South Side has officially began. Also, 1117 (which is in the same lightning bolt paint scheme as 1138) is still testing on the South Side just as a Readville switcher. Why isn’t it in service yet? The 1117 and 1138 are now called GP40MC-3s.

1138 is on the capeflyer, that is old news

Yes, as previously stated the 1138 is on the flyer. 1117 isn’t testing, it’s simply being used as a south side switching locomotive due lack of availability amongst the other GP40s.

Any news about 1859 testing the NS? Somebody saw it on a 3 car test extra on the Lowell Line.

Yes that was for high speed testing between Wilmington and Billerica where the max speed is 79 mph. The day before, the same set tested with the 1856 in front of the 1859 with 4 cars total

Wednesday’s readville switcher look that full test set back south (2025-875-878-1859-1856). The set is still in that order and is sitting at readville now

Wait why was brand-new Rotem 1859 testing on the Lowell Line on 05/29/24? Kinda weird, that I thought all the new Rotems were testing down south and running in revenue down there? The other two bi-levels must’ve been new Rotems 879 and 880. North Side Rotem Test Train, extremely rare. Please upload a video of it?

I heard that they were testing high speed operation on the Lowell line where trains can go 79 mph (between Wilmington and Billerica). On Tuesday they tested with the consist 2025-875-878-1859-1856. On Wednesday they only had 2025-875-878-1859. I was not able to capture the operation, but I saw the full set of equipment coming through Cambridge on the readville switcher led by the 1117 this past Sunday, which I will definitely get posted eventually
