I'm SO glad YT suggested you channel! I've been sewing for about thirty years, but am self-taught....can I just say, I learned so much just from this tutorial! I started out making costumes, but have started sewing my own dresses. I'm right at the section in the video where you sewed along either side of the skirt slit and OMG that is SO much easier than how I've been doing it! I'm a firm believer that we should never stop learning and can always learn from other seamstresses. I just subbed and look forward to watching and learning even more. Thanks so much for this! I have this pattern and as soon as I find the fabric I want to use, I'm definitely coming back to this for a guide. You rock!

When I want to learn anything and find a good tutorial that walks me through the steps, I'm SO HAPPY. So, to hear your excitement makes me feel so good that I can provide value to our sewing community. Have fun sewing your dress when you find the fabric.

Thank you for this video. I am still a newbie with sewing, 2yrs now off and on, and I have recently started watching sew alongs for tips and tricks to doing some of these techniques. I love how you pin the sleeve cap in before pulling your basting strings to ease fabric in. I have only learned to pull and adjust the ease before trying to place the sleeve in, your way looks so much easier and makes more sense. Also, I love seeing how you created your slits on the skirt, basting together first, folding and finishing the edges, then removing the basting stitches. I tried one skirt that had a slit and the pattern did not say to do ot this way. Your way looks easier. I have learned over time to learn different techniques and see how others do them. The patterns tend to tell us to do it a more difficult way or leaves it to your imagination! Thank you, definitely will watch more of your sew alongs.

Anita, I'm so happy that I found you on KZfaq. I love your gentle style as you handle your fabric and guide us alone with your project. I do have a question. Is there a way to sharpen a seam ripper or do they simply get tossed away and replaced? Also, I was disappointed that I didn't get to see your method and instructions for the elastic waistband that you created a casing for. My searching tonight had been about that very thing. Thanks again and I look forward to watching your channel.

Hi Anita, I just have to ask you a question...I noticed you are using a gravity feed steam iron and not the Rowenta perfect steam. I just love your channel and I've learned so much from you and thank you so much for all the wonderful teaching you do. It's been several years since I bought the Rowenta steam iron mainly because I saw you using it and just knew it had to be an amazing iron if you were using it. ...it has been a great iron for me but when I saw you using the gravity feed iron I just had to ask you about it and wanted to ask you why you are not using the Rowenta iron...So far my Rowenta has been working great. You know I'm going to want to get a gravity feed iron now that you are using one...LOL..I hope you don't mind me asking you about this. I think you are one of the most accomplished sewist on You Tube and hope you will be so gracious to let me know about your iron choices...Sorry for writing such a long letter here and again, thank you so much for being the shining light that you are.
@AnitabyDesign
@AnitabyDesign 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathleen! Oh my heart is just broken over my Rowenta Steam Station. I love that iron more than any other I've tried. The only reason I'm not using it is because I waited too long to remove the tube to clean the calcification. I kept forgetting to clean it and the knob got stuck. I tried removing it with pliers one too many times and messed up the knob. So I can no longer remove it. The iron is the absolute best and it was user error. Unfortunately they don't sell the same model I had, so I decided to try a gravity feed iron. The new iron is working fine but I don't like that the handle gets hot. The burst of steam on the Rowenta Steam Station was the best. Use your Rowenta for as long as it lasts. I had that iron for 5 years and it served me well. I looked everywhere online to find another one. I even contacted the company for a replacement part. Nothing. Your support and trust in my choices are very encouraging to me, Cathleen.

Hi Jill. I don't know if anyone has replaced the elastic with a tie. But when you're sewing your own garments, you can do whatever you want. Change it up to accommodate your preferences. You can add a snap if you encounter gapping in the front. I recommend making a muslin first to test for fit.
