Ranger Matt Atkinson leads a battle walk on the 161st Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg covering the actions of McGilvery's Artillery on July 2.

My GGgrandfather served in the 5th Mass light artillery. Cpl Benjamin Laurence Graham. The Nation Lives. Great battle walk. Under appreciated subject. Brave honorable men.

@@markcrampton5873 It's rare that artillermen receive the MoH. It wasn't till 2014 that Lt Cushing received one for action on the 3rd in which he lost his life manning his piece near the angle.

@@howardclegg6497 that was more specifically because MoHs were not awarded posthumously during the war. And McGilvery didn't survive the war either...

I believe the mystery battery in McGilvery's line was Battery C, 3rd Massachusetts, Captain Aaron Wolcott.

Freeman McGilvery's defiance of General Hancock's irresponsible artillery orders on July 3 probably saved us from defeat during Longstreet's assault. But that's another story.

I’m sorry, but we’re not here to learn about the history of a ranger. We are here to learn about the artillery of this battlefield all all the little anecdotes, the personal asides, cheers for the crowd, and the other things, cut them. This two hours long!?
