When we bought this engine and transmission out of another mci9 it never occurred to me the Allison 740 would be different. Several lost hours of labor on this job removing and installing the engine cradle and extra time.

How easy it would have been to simply not even publish this example of a pitfall that has snared many a great mechanic at some point in a working career. But Scott keeps everything transparent and shows his audience that he has real integrity in his business and life. 👍🙌 Thumbs up and a round of applause.

@@billmoran3812 Scott has proven himself to be an honorable, honest person. This unfortunate mistake again proves beyond the shadow of a doubt the level of his integrity. A large number of shops would do everything they could to point the finger elsewhere or try to weasel out of the responsibility. Truth ✅️.

Oh wow! I was wondering when this MC-9 was going to get back going. Hey, mistakes happen. We fix them up when and if we can and then we keep on going. Anticipating to see the end result of this project. I commend the owner of this bus for bringing it back to life the proper way and also to the Bus Grease Monkeys for taking on the job to fix it right. Take care everyone and always strive to do the right thing.

You need to get one those load levelers for your hoist. They’re actually cheap, and make adjusting the level on a motor or other heavy load real easy. Just turn the crank and adjust the balance on your load. They can be a godsend for a job like this.

I'm not sure how they would work on these engines but I have found that on cars or trucks for me personally I found them to be of very little help.

If you work on equipment much, it will happen. I have had to go redo a day's work because of similar oversights. But because you show this to everyone, we all learn from it. I have been told that if you learn, it wasn't a mistake, it's a learning experience.

Hi Mr Crosby ,my name is Richard ,I have been a motor coach operator for 20 plus years,.I saw the beginning of that video when you pulling out the power train of that mci, when I was working for my bus company I notice that the head mecanic when he have to remove the power train he was using a steel craddle extension atttached to the main craddle ,so all he have to do, is pull the power train from the inside of the bus.do the repair he have to do and pushed back inside when the job done.I think he fabricated himself the extension craddle .QUESTION, do you think it would be useful for you?Thank you for you,re answer,Keep the good work Jonathan and you.

No it would make it harder on this job. They don’t just slide out it has to be lifted to clear the end of the bus. Plus transporting it back to the shop from the bus it would not work. Bus outside and we get to do engine work inside air conditioned shop

Was the original transmission a HT-741 or a HT-740, the 741 is the atec variant. HT-740 transmissions can have the electronic push button shifter without being an atec transmission and it is really not a big deal converting a mechanical ahifter HT-740 to the push button shift. The big difference it atec vs non atec, its really not a big deal to convert a HT-740 into an HT-741. Something often overlooked is torque converter ratio, they are available in 4 or 5 different ratios so you can tailor the transmission to the application better. The HT-750 is the 5 speed variant of the HT-740.
