McLaren F1 GTR Longtail Accelerations, Downshifts & Legendary BMW V12 Sound!

These two fantastic McLaren F1 GTRs were at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed both for McLaren F1's 30th anniversary and BMW M Motorsport 50th anniversary celebrations. The two cars are chassis 23R, one of the BMW Schnitzer Team featuring the iconic FINA livery, and chassis 28R, the ex-Gulf Team Davidoff. Only 10 examples were built in these ''Longtail'' specs.
The GTR Longtail was powered by an extensive modified BMW S70 V12 engine that was de-stroked from the 'original' 6,064 cc down to 5,990 cubic centimetres in an attempt to prolong the life of the engines. The max power remained the same at 600hp (but with air restrictors). Compared to the GTR 'Short Tail' the Lontgail was almost 100kg lighter (915 kg vs 1,012 kg) and the standard manual gearbox was replaced with a new X-trac 6-speed sequential transmission.

Never been a big fan of the F1's soundtrack, but it is just an awesome looking car. Plus it's just outright legendary.

Same. Love the looks, the car was and still is revolutionary, but the noise just kind of lets me down. Hate to say it, but it sounds to me like a clapped out E36/46 M3 with a cheap exhaust, especially when compared to the V12 noises from a Zonda or an F50, etc.

Ciao Bozzy, hai pubblicato una vettura meravigliosa. La vidi in azione durante una 1000 Km di Monza di fine anni 90"s. Il suo suono mi piace tantissimo, anche sé era in gara contro la Ferrari 333sp. Ciao 👍

@@YuriBruschi Yuri...i was actually at the first sprint race the Ferrari 333SP had in the US at Road Atlanta. I was at the Ferrari truck when they unloaded them. Just breathtakingly beautiful race cars...and the sound they made was one of the best racing engine sounds EVER. They really screamed. So much so that the racing govt body (IMSA) made Ferrari put a rev limiter on the engine the following year because they were so dominant! Miss those 333SPs

Raise your hand if Gran Turismo 4 introduced you to this iconic car ✋😃 The sound of that BMW V12 sends chills up my spine! I was for sure the FINA sponsored McLaren's exhaust note wasn't as shrill as the Gulf sponsored McLaren, at one point it sounded more like the BMW V12 LMR
