Kuhli loaches are my all time favorite. Had one that loved to be out and about. Had him/her for 14 years. Eventually it's face and whiskers got gray!

I found the easiest way to catch kuhlies is to put a piece of pipe in the tank that has one end blocked off. Chase the kuhli loach into the pipe and then put your hand over the end of the pipe and pick the whole thing up. You'll also see your kuhlis more if you have some close together fist sized rocks spread in the forground, with leafy folliage over hanging them. They feel more protected wiggling around the rock pathways, rather than out if the full open, and get a big school of around 8 ish or more, and then they get braver and you'll see them out and about all the time. I love my wigglies, they remind of sock puppets, lol.

The Angels are growing really well MD. It's great to see them swimming around and in the front. Your Cory collection is super. So much activity and great plants. It's amazing that you do this well without CO2. I can hardly wait to see what happens to the MOSS. It's a big job!

If you want to see more of the Kuhlis, you need a bigger group, like 10 or so, and a tank with low-light places for them to come out and play. Just like Corys, they need a bigger group to get confidence.

Best pygmy cory tank I have ever seen was a really shallow one, maybe 20 cm high with a bunch of driftwood coming out, and probably 50-100 of them. It was a display tank at my LFS so it was really well scaped. They would school together and hang out along the driftwood it was really magical. Lots of shrimp in there as well.

In my experience, Khuli loaches and Corydoras catfish are more active when kept in large groups.

The reason you never see the Kuhli loaches is because they are a social fish and thrive in groups of 6 or more.

I had a kuhli loach swim into the filter area in the back and got stuck and was ridiculous to get out of there, and that’s funny your wife doesn’t like them, I asked my little girl what her favourite fish was and she said “the little snakey guys” lol. Is that riccia moss too? Cause that probably is insane under there!

Mopani wood is the only wood i have in my tanks. It leaches tannin's for ages, but i have never seen that fungus stuff before on the wood, odd.

The reason you never see the kuhli loach is probably the small group size. They should really be in sixes minimum and groups of twelve ideally. They become much more active and social in larger groups

My mother also thinks kuhli loaches are gross. I showed then to her at my lfs and she vetoed any possibility of keeping them

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some advice or answers here- I have a 40gallon tank and I stoked it at first with 8 corycats, 12 cherry barbs, a honey gourami, and a loache. Lots and lots of plants as well. I was doing regular water changes and the tank was cycled before putting fish in and I do all the typical things of dechlorination, and treatment to help stabilize the PH. About 6 weeks after putting livestock in the loache died- I’ve heard they’re a bit touchy and everybody else looked fine so I didn’t think much of it. About a week later the gourami died, I was a bit concerned so I dig a water change and treated the whole tank with salt just in case of illness. Another 2.5 weeks later a chatty barb died and then then hours later 2 more died and by the following day all 12 had died. I was devastated and didn’t know what I was doing wrong. With that said the Cory are are perfectly fine- they’re thriving and growing and don’t seem to be off whatsoever. So after all the fish had died I put the Cory’s in another tank I have and did a full water change, new water, cleaned out the filter, cleaned the filter…. Everything EXEPT mess with the substrate system because I worked so hard on it and it’s helping my plants thrive. Put the Cory’s back in a bought just two fish just to see before fully restocking. That was just last yesterday around 4pm that I put them in and woke up this morning around 8 and they were both dead. HELP ME…. The Cory’s are fine but it seems fish can’t survive and I don’t know why!! I’ve kept fish for about 2 years now and have never had this issues. This is the largest tank I’ve had but I don’t know. Is there some bacteria in the substrate that’s killing them? Why are the Cory’s fine but fish die? Idk what to do

If you already tore down the tank to get the fish, you could've just dropped the water level. Would've made catching a million times easier
