Meade DS2090AT Beginner Amateur Astronomer's Review

This is my review of the Meade DS2090AT-TC 90 mm refractor telescope as a beginner amateur astronomer. I have used this telescope for a month. I like its simple design, portability, and goto capability. However, the mount is just a bit too flimsy and the computer is not accurate sometimes. Overall, it is a good telescope for beginners.

Really good video and review of this scope. This reminds me of the small Meade 60mm (grey OTA) refractor that I have, also a discontinued model.

Hi mate. I see you're really good with telescopes. My grandpa passed me down an Explorer 400 model from Abercrombie & Fitch. I wanted to know more about it and how to use it. The lenses are dusted up. Saw this video and it seemed rather relevant. Boy has technology changed. Aside from that though, I learned from it. I believe you can google this model and find some pictures of it to further understand my upcoming questions: Whats this circley piece that has 2 lenses on both ends? My guess is that it flips the image. But I don't know. I see this 2X attachment but I don't know if I should attach it to the main telescope or the eyepiece spot. I also have a 20mm eyepiece, 0.4mm, and I think a 2mm one. My gramps really wanted to see distant galaxies because the 0.4mm one is worn. Haha. Let me know more info on this though! I'm incredibly curious. Thanks!

good review. i just bought one of these discontinued refractors. cheap plastic focuser is the mayor weakness i think. just wanted to know how can i replace the plastic focuser for a metallic one, and if i could find a suitable one on ebay or other places

Dear sir, thank you for spending the time to review this. Do you know if there are replacement motors available anywhere? When I try to search for "meade ds 2000," I instead see motors for the different (and incompatible) ds 60, 70, 80, 90, 114, and 127 series.

I picked a used DS2090 and the Autostar isn't very accurate despite 2 star alignment. The mount is too low and shakes too much when focusing. The stop in the tube was stopping the scope to 80mm so I moved it further down the tube. Moved the scope to a Celestron Heavy Duty Alt/AZ mount which is much steadier. What was really strange is the objective was flipped causing bad images at high magnification. I wouldn't recommend the scope based on the mount. Great video.

I have this telescope but it's missing the star diagonal and eyepiece. Do you know where I can find replacement parts?

GESSO217 No, sorry. This is a discontinued item so parts are going to be hard to come by. However, you could try craigslist or kijiji for anyone parting out their Meade telescope. I hope that helps.

Yea I also dont have the original diagonal or any eyepices infact i dont have any eyepieces but i found someone on marketplace that sells that with the remote
