From the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, MEAN GIRLS. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called “The Plastics,” ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Reneé Rapp) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood) and Karen (Avantika). However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney), she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs. The idea that Mean Girls is “based” on “Queen Bees & Wannabes” was always nonsense. It’s as closely related to that book as any other high school teen flick. Any movie that involves teenagers and cliques, you could say is “based on Queen Bees & Wannabes.” It was a dumb marketing ploy to get the older Reader’s Digest crowd somewhat interested in seeing the 2004 film.

Is that the actresses name? But why is she so fat? I've not seen any reality where a fat girl is the hottest girl of a class,. That is a fictional dream of writers with self insert complex. Guys you are making it look like a straight remake, CALL IT A MUSICAL ALREADY! Edit: “It is a remake” sure but my point is it's also a musical and the trailer doesn't show that. “People won't go to see it if they know it's a musical.” that doesn't make sense, you are suggesting people won't see it if they know it’s more than just a remake of a film we already have! Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Long Haul is one example. In that movie, particularly one character doppelganger actually ruined the whole movie... Rodrick!

In the Broadway show, there’s an exchange between Cady and Karen that goes like this: *Karen:* Did you ever meet a tiger? *Cady:* No, those are from India. *Karen:* ‘Cause that’s, like, one of my life goals. To *not* meet a tiger. I don’t know how this’ll sound, but to me, Karen’s actress actually being Indian will make that joke land SO MUCH BETTER. I’m looking forward to this.

Even when it's just a musical interpretation of the original movie, i'm still looking forward to this as it's also going to be the first time for me in hearing the songs so it should be a lot of fun. Hearing that this was originally supposed to be a streaming movie explains a lot. Not saying it looks bad. I'm excited to see it and all. But there's been a weird air about the marketing for this movie that just didn't feel right. But once you tell me they pivoted late into production and decided to put this into theatres, I can see why the trailers all feel kinda off. I suppose the one possible upside is that maybe the overall budget, including marketing, was really low, meaning they'll make money a lot easier. Hopefully.

the marketing feels off probably because for some reason Paramount have decided to "hide" the fact that this is a full blown musical in their promotion. there's only so much non-musical elements you can include in the marketing materials before it starts feeling overused.

I love all the people saying “you can tell it’s a musical” when no one is actually singing any of the songs in the trailer…as if we didn’t have a whole era of non-musical movies like “10 Things I Hate About You” and “She’s All That” that featured 1 dance number and 1 scene of singing without actually being musicals… Look at the trailers for “Sweeney Todd”, “Rent”, “Hairspray”, “Repo: The Genetic Opera”…THOSE were trailers that told you you were about to watch a musical! They were proud of it! And you’re more likely to get bad reviews from people not expecting a musical when you “appeal to a broader audience” by hiding important info. If the Broadway show was such a success, they have their audience to make the film a success! And for people who know nothing about trailer editing, they do make trailers with stuff that doesn’t even show in the movie for stylistic reasons. So yes, for those who have never seen the musical “Mean Girls”, we need it to be more obvious that this is based on the musical… Also, that makes it SUPERIOR to being a useless remake with no reason for existing. Could you imagine if they did a straight remake of John Waters’s “Hairspray” instead of the musical adaptation for the big screen???

I've been waiting for an adaptation of the musical since I saw it on Broadway with Taylor Louderman as Regina! Right after I saw it, Renee got the role of Regina and I've been DYING to see her in the role for years. I had to survive off the "slime tutorial mean girls" (iykyk) with renee as Regina and now we finally get it adapted to the screen! I cannot wait! It looks like the perfect blend of the musical with the original and modern day things interweaved into the dialogue and scenes! Definitely looking forward to this! Have been ever since the first rumor of this adaptation came out! Also praying Regina ends up with Janis this time around😊😂

The only thing worthwhile in this movie is the fact that they got the actor and actress from the original Mean Girls to reprise their roles in this rendition. This movie is gonna flop so badly that i feel bad for the two of them for being a part of this. They deserve better

this movie begins with a 5-minute musical number that is shot in one long take and travels from a garage to Africa and then to an American highschool... I suggest all movies begin this way

@@matt2522 it was, but in the musical they made Janis much more of a ‘heroic figure’ so I’m glad they’re taking Janis back to her roots for the film.

I'm going to watch it with an open mind and I want to love this movie so bad 🙌🏻 it still doesn't feel like it's a musical tho, and i was hoping to hear Revenge Party in the trailer, not the original song that will probably be in the credits.

That "fire crotch" joke is such a low-blow considering the fact that Lindsay Lohan's charm made that movie a hit. But I wouldn't expect any less from Tina Fey....

Saw this is theaters and it was pretty bad. The theater was mostly empty. None of the jokes were funny, there was definitely no laughter from the other patrons either. They changed a lot of the storyline for no reason and it made some of the stuff not make any sense. The music was just bad. They were just coasting off of the original's popularity, but totally left out all of the funny jokes and important incidents which really help develop the characters. I give it a 3/10.

I feel like this is the exact opposite of what everyone wanted. We wanted a sequel with the original cast. Instead were given a Disney Channel remake. No thanks! Count me out.
